Others who commented above don't seem to have any idea what they're talking about and seem to just be angry mob followers. If you would like to give one to each of your friends, you may do so. A $3 monthly subscription is only available for the "sharing" feature, which allows you to share one tile with more than one friend at a time. This means if you plan to have multiple people use one floor, it will cost $3 a month for each person. When you buy a pack of four tiles, you can give away 3 of them without paying for them. Despite the fact that I disagree with charging $3 for the sharing feature, I am not in favor of spreading misinformation with just your anger.

Different family members received Tiles, and we shared them with each other, so we were able to see each other's keys, find them, and find each other. The new Tile Mates are less functional, not to mention they are less functional for me because you also downgraded my old Tile Mates and I can no longer share them with anyone!
