This charger is just as cheap as the original MS charger for the Surface Pro 2, which I bought in February, and it's falling apart after 4 months. With the design of this charging port and charger, Microsoft has completely screwed up the consumer experience. I've purchased four replacement chargers from various companies and have come to the conclusion that there is no good replacement charger for this tablet. The flimsy magnetic and plastic piece that connects the tablet to the tablet eventually rips open in each of them. br>br>Recently updated: This seller provides excellent customer service, including sending me a free replacement charger, which I did not expect. While Microsoft continues to disappoint, I appreciate Kingdo's efforts.
I purchased three adapters when I purchased my Surface Pro 2. After roughly two years of use, all three have failed at one or more points along the cord. Whether it's bad design or the reality of two years of daily use, I'm still undecided. But I didn't want to spend another $70 on an adapter, so I looked for alternatives. br>br>I was concerned that the lower price would imply lower build quality, but every device has a few duds that make it through production, and the reviews appeared to be mostly positive. My main concern when ordering was the few reviews that mentioned heat and problems with the adapter. br>br>After about two months of daily use, I haven't had any issues with them. (I purchased two. ) They have much longer cords for more convenience, and there is a cord tie on both cords so you can just partially wrap one or both to keep it organized. br>br>I believe they are better than the original, EVEN IF they last half as long because they're also half the price. br>br>They have much longer cords for more convenience, and there is a cord tie on both cords so you can just partially wrap one or both if you'd like. It comes with a small storage pouch as well. br>br>.
I'd been meaning to write this review for a while, but when my original Surface Pro Charger stopped working, I discovered too late that Microsoft had stopped producing chargers for the Surface Pro 1. As a result, I hadn't been able to use my Surface Pro for more than a year, starting in 2016 - 2017 I was going overseas and wanted to try to get my Surface back up and running, so after buying a faulty charger from Ebay (one of the pins didn't set in properly), I was hesitant to buy another charger online, and I wasn't sure how the voltage and current differences would affect the charger. br>br>I am so happy that I decided to take a chance and buy this charger after using it for over four months with no problems. My Surface Pro is now back in working order. This seller went above and beyond by including a lovely travel pouch in which to store the charger. I believe the cable had a US plug end, so all I had to do was change the US plug to an AU plug (I just reused the original Surface AU Plug) and my Surface was charging after an entire year of inactivity. br>br>I'm so glad I went with this seller; the charger arrived ahead of schedule, and my anticipation of using it was realized. This is a great charger for the original Microsoft Surface Pro, and I highly recommend it. Thank you a lot!.
Although it claims to be covered by a warranty, who knows? When it's new, make a good impression. Nice power adapter, good price, works fine; could do without the pouch, but that's not a deal breaker. br>I use my Surface Pro 2 on a regular basis, probably six times a day. I work 8 hours per week and am always at home. I leave the SP2 charging on the desk while the cable is plugged into the wall. As I previously stated - Use sparingly and only when necessary. br>br>After 8 months, The adapter isn't functioning correctly. After testing it with a variety of power cables (I have quite a collection after 15 years in IT), I discovered that the issue is with the Surface's mag connector. The aux USB port continues to supply power, so it can still be used as a bulky, expensive phone charger. When I brought it into work, I was able to confirm my suspicions when an OEM charger quickly charged the device. br>br>So I go to the Amazon product page and see that it comes with a one-year warranty. The "More Info" link informs me that I must contact the manufacturer, but does not provide any instructions on how to do so. I'm entitled to a replacement, but how do I go about getting one? br>Perhaps the best way to get attention is to write a bad review?.
POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD, to put it another way. I ordered this in February 2020 and have probably used it a few dozen times in the last year with no problems; it was a 5-star value for the price. It would have been annoying if it had simply broken or stopped working after a year, but not unforgivable at the price point if it had simply broken or stopped working after a year. br>br>Unfortunately, it ended on a high note. I was on the floor in the other corner of the room charging my SP2 when I heard crackling noises. When I looked over and saw smoke coming from the charging brick, I was able to dash over and unplug it in a matter of seconds. It made me feel uneasy to think about what might have happened if I had been in another room - or, even worse, asleep or out of the house (both scenarios in which I'd previously left my SP2 charging). br>br>On the plus side, my tablet appears to be unharmed as a result of this incident. I'm still undecided about what I'll do next. The genuine Microsoft charger, which was out of production for a long time and ran on 4-volt batteries, is no longer available. When it first came out, it cost five times as much as it does now. FINAL VERDICT: BE CAREFUL WITH THIS CHARGER AND, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, KEEP IT AWAY FROM CARPET AND FLAMMABLE MATERIAL.
