The cord should extend just long enough to reach the USB port on the back. I love the card reader because not only does it work well, it matches my monitor perfectly as well. As of yet I haven't run into any problems. I'll leave an update if issues arise. It is safe to say that this is a great card reader when you're looking for a simple one.

My one laptop does not have an SD card slot, but my other one does. Since I've been there before, I didn't want to spend the least amount of money on a card reader. There is a Mac look to this and it was moderately priced. The second one I ordered was for my wife's computer, so that must mean I am happy with it. It has a solid cable that is good and heavy. The purchase was a good one.

An OS upgrade on my Mac prompted me to disable the direct download of photos from my older Canon camera I now needed a card reader since the camera has a Flash Memory card. Exactly what I wanted and it worked great. I was able to download my photos once the Disk reader appeared on my display when it was plugged in using the USB port. Further, I used the card reader and the 32 GB flash drive to download some information from my computer, and it worked like a charm. It is recommended.
