~44MB/s. This reader's shape and size are perfect for me. There are no wires dangling around to scratch or damage my iPad, which is a great thing. br>br>Unfortunately, unlike the other reviewers, this reader is extremely slow and can become quite hot. br>br>On my Sandisk Extreme Pro (64GB) card, which supports reading speeds of up to 95MB/s, this reader only manages 44MB/s. I've tried three other SD card readers, and this is the only one that reads at such a slow speed. Given that it's a USB-connected device, That kind of speed, C reader, is unacceptably fast. br>br>Perhaps the reader gets hot because of its size. It's not dangerously hot, but it can be uncomfortable when your device gets hot and you have a few hundred photos to import. br>br>In general, it's not a bad reader if you're a casual photographer who wants to move a few photos around. However, if you require a more serious tool for which performance is critical, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
Originally, I planned to purchase the Anker 8-port USB hub. 1 USB 3. This link will take you to a 0 Portable Card Reader: However, I noticed at the bottom of the page that "A Newer Model of this Product is Available," which directed me to this item. The issue is that the original link's item was a USB 3. This product is USB-compatible and has a 0 connection. The C connector is much smaller than the USB 3. 0 connector. 0 So it's not a newer version of the old product; it's a completely different one. br>br>I purchased it with the intention of using it on my desktop computer to read memory cards from my digital cameras, but when it arrived, I discovered that it does not have a standard USB connection and instead comes with a smaller USB-C connector. This is a C connection, which is typical of some mobile phones, so it's essentially useless to me. Other things I didn't like about it were that it didn't come with a cap to protect it from dust or dirt while in your pocket, no cover or protector to protect the memory card inserts from dust/dirt, and no way to attach it to a strap or keychain. br>br>Advantagesbr>- br> The Aluminum/Metal Finish is very nice. br>br> Anker is known for producing high-quality products. br>br> The packaging was plain and uncomplicated. Consbr>- br>br>- br>br>- br>br>- br>br>- b
- It makes use of a USB-C (USB-C) connector that isn't standard. C), I mistook it for a regular USB 3. 0 port when I placed my order. When the 0 memory card reader arrived, I was disappointed because it would not work on my computer.
- It does not include a USB 3 adapter.
- There is no protective cap included with it.
- It does not include any protection for the memory card inserts, so when you put it in your pocket, the connections will become clogged with lint, dust, and dirt.
- It lacks a place to hang a strap for items such as a keychain or a necklace. br>br>Finishing touchesbr>- br>After looking around for other memory card readers, reading a ton of reviews, and calming down after being duped by Amazon into purchasing a "Newer Model" with a different connection type, I decided to just buy the Anker USB 3. 0. I'm going to return the USB-C card reader that I was planning to buy in the first place and replace it with the USB-C card reader that I was originally going to buy. The USB 3. 0 model C, according to Amazon, is a newer model. Version 0 is available. I looked at other card readers, but they all had bad reviews saying they corrupted the files being transferred (the other brands), and the other brands also had complaints about not working after a few uses, so I'll just stick with Anker, which hasn't let me down yet and is a dependable brand. As for my complaints about this memory card reader not coming with a cap or anything to protect it from dust, lint, or dirt, or even having a keychain connector, the solution is.
Full data cards appear to be unreadable or in need of initialization. REVISION AT THE END:
O. , I went ahead and used the card reader with the tight fit upside down. For two cards, it was effective. It said the card was unreadable and needed to be initialized when I inserted the third card, which was full of data. I was able to eject it and replace it in my other card reader, which now allows me to copy the data from it. This reader has served its purpose. I've been fortunate in that I've never had a problem with a reader until now. I'm fortunate in that I seem to be able to recover the data it tried to eat. br>br>ADDITIONAL COMMENTS TO THE ORIGINAL REVIEW: br>br>I sacrificed a card to see if it would work upside down (which I'd tried before, but this time I was really pushing it). To get the card into the reader right side up, I had to squish it into the upside down reader. I'm hoping I didn't ruin the card, but it appears to be functional. I'm still undecided about putting valuable cards into this reader. I'm thinking of using it for cards that aren't as important as others. OLD REVIEW: br>br>NEW REVIEW: All of my editing is done with SD card readers. Although the slot is the correct size, the SD card would not fit. If you've forgotten about your window, you can get it back to me. I can't seem to get away from it. br>br>I still adore my other Anker products, but unfortunately not this one.
I was hoping that because this is advertised as case friendly, it would work with my Otterbox Defender case for my Galaxy S9, but it does not. It works with my phone, but I'd have to take it out of the case each time I wanted to use it. If you've ever used an otterbox defender case, you'll understand how inconvenient it can be. I'll have to return this one and try one of Ankers' card readers with a cord style plug, which have a smaller tip.
