Questions & Answers

What is the maximum SDHC card size that can be used with this card reader?

I agree - Printed on the back of the package is a speed reference note that indicates that it was obtained with a 128GB SDXC UHS-I card from Transcend Assuming the reader supports 128 GB cards at least, it appears this reader supports memory cards up to that capacity. In technical terms, you have an SDXC card with 64 GB of capacity. See the definitions below for details. The following items are considered standard SD Memory Cards (SDSC) (1) One standard capacity SD Memory Card Two (2) High Capacity SD Memory Cards (SDHC) of up to and including 2 GB each (5) Extended Capacity SD Memory Card (SDXC) more than 2GB and up to 32GB Reader that supports 32GB and more, up to and including 2TB*br>This reader supports all 3 types above including UHS-II cards

Since so many reviewers indicate that this reader does not work on a MacBook Pro, why does Transcend, according to their website, claim that it does?

Regardless of OS X 10, it works great on my 15" MacBook Pro Retina Display. Considering it is a mere USB 3.0 connection, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work with any reasonably recent version of OS X. It does not support any devices.

Are you able to install this on Windows 8 directly? Another USB 3.0 device I'm seeing is a product from Avalon Design. With 0 reviews stating yes and one or two stating no, what are the chances?

There are several factors that come into play. (Windows 8). It has nothing to do with the operating system. There is also one in the reader port. A lot of USB sticks come with two ports. A few months ago, there were none, and now there are Specifically, this device is said to be backwards compatible with version This applies not only to 0. This is a great device, but the new ones are very There is one in my possession which is slightly older (early 2016) and I would give it a 5-star rating
3/5

The units are pleasant aesthetically, work super fast, and fit almost anywhere there is a USB port. Yesterday I received two more units, and they still work reasonably, but I have seen a change. This type of machine runs hot. The problem with them is that for the application I needed them for, they limit the power that can be sent to the SD card, because we use them with WiFi. The cards are called SD, for Secure Digital. With previous radio cards, they would use them just fine, but this latest pair of units do not turn on the Yes, it has strange and esoteric uses. It's possible, though, that this product will be useful to someone after all. It has over 4,000 reviews. If you use a standard SD-card, please be aware that As far as the drive feature is concerned, the device is functional. While I don't want to "drive them up the wall," I do wonder if it is necessary to run them this hot now.

True speed tests cannot be carried out on cards that have a speed greater than 95mb/s
5/5

My only existing USB 2 card readers are USB 1. I ordered this one as I do not have a USB 1. 5 reader. Since all high performance cards would be tested with the card reader, performance will be 0 per card. Buying this USB 3 was a smart move on my part. Gen 1 as it is now called) card reader in the hopes it would resolve the It's all messed up and confusing with the IF naming structure. USB 3 is what I now call my ports. A USB 3. 0 device, or a USB 2. 0 device. Gen. 1 1) Additionally, I do not have any UHS-II cards As I mentioned before, I didn't expect the UHS-II cards to be able to benchmark the speeds for power consumption UHS-II, Class 1 cards (yes, UHS-II, but still UHS-II The majority of people think USB 3 is for the card reader rather than for the card, because it's a USB 3 device. As far as I see, the card reader runs at speeds of 95mb/s. When I first got this reader I was a little surprised that it didn't reach advertised speeds, but after looking at other reviews here, it seems pretty clear that this card reader is limited to There is no benchmark photo posted exceeding a 95mb/s speed from anyone who has posted benchmarking photos. As a result, if you have high speed cards, and you are REALLY interested in seeing how fast the maximum potential is, you should look elsewhere since this reader simply isn't fast enough. In the wake of this card reader's inconclusive results, I decided to purchase the Kingston MobileLite+ USB 3. 0 instead. A pair of UHS-II cameras This card reader is compatible with the II card. The reader will not give you accurate results if you are testing cards that claim benchmarks above 95mbps when using the 1/U3) card. In fact, I tested this with a Lexar Pro 667x as well, which could not break through the Transcend card reader's 95mbps, and which actually read over its stated 100mbps speed with the Kingston UHS-I card reader at 102mbps. This card reader is compatible with the II card. You can use it for benchmarking your UHS-I cards, if you want a true measure of performance When it comes to speed, I would strongly suggest a UHS-I card This card reader is compatible with the II card. Perhaps 95 mb/s is enough speed for you if you won't need or care about cards anything faster than that. If that's still enough for you, then this card reader may be worth a look. It is not possible to give this reader a negative review because it is able to read standard speed cards without any problem. The problem is that it simply does not offer the cutting edge, high speed features. Further, it does not claim to be able to read any high speed that it cannot reach, so it is not falsely advertised, but it does leave much to be desired when testing the The program is extremely easy to use, however, and it is very reasonable in price. Despite its small size, this card reader does get warm, but that is normal for a card reader that is 'somewhat'.

This is a mobile tool you cannot do without
4/5

This product was purchased for the purpose of transferring data from a 64GB SanDisk microSD card to a 64GB Transcend microSD card that I'd just bought for With the StarTech USB to USB OTG host adapter, I was able to connect it. The speed of this sucker is incredible. Across the board, it got 26GB of music, 4GB of photos, and a bunch of other material. It sees the USB connection immediately, and the data on the SD card is ready to be accessed through the As I got my camera's SD card in to copy the setup photos over to the phone (which I uploaded for this review), I popped the card in to copy the pictures. I also tested it on a PC and it worked great. I think it ought to be called Tiny Powerhouse.

Card reader that works well
3/5

There is a micro SD card in the camera that stores the pictures. Micro SD cards can't be inserted into my laptop since it has only a SD card reader built in. As a result, I purchased this from It's a lightweight plastic case with a male USB connector (with protective cap) and SD card and microSD card slots on the side. I tried the SD card slot and it worked fine with my PC automatically recognizing it and asking if I wanted to import pictures. It has so far been smooth sailing. As I attempted to insert the micro SD card into the underside of the regular SD slot, the unit showed a message that it could not be done. I don't think that would work. There was no way to make sense of I don't think it would fit all the way in. On Micro SD cards, there is a little notch sticking out of the side, and it was catching there. Despite my best efforts, I was unable to solve it. I then decided to look in the slot to see what was going on. Having to turn the micro SD card upside down to fit it into the slot on this unit was a challenge. What's going on? That's okay, it's functional. However, if you purchase one, you can see that it fits that way. Has this been explained in any way? As soon as I understood how to use the program, I had no problem using it.
