There are no similarities to the originals. Having never had the glossy ball, I'm not sure whether it's better or worse than original. I can tell you this, though using a matte is an absolute pain. There is a lot of drag, but that's not the only thing. In fact, scrolling becomes loud when the volume is turned up. This replacement ball fixed it. There was no problem using the ERGO, but occasionally it would get stuck when the support pegs caught on the pock and caused the ball to resist- However, it is not enough to cause any real harm, but it is just enough so that I have to draw digitally and it annoys I have been able to solve that issue with this replacement ball and have proven it to be a worthwhile investment to do so. In the ERGO and M570, the ball is the same size, so that ball can be used in either one ( I was using the ball from my old M570 in the ERGO while I awaited the arrival of this ball). Approximately 30 minutes are required for replacement This is a relatively simple procedure and does not require any special tools, however a pencil can make it much easier for you to take out your old ball. Those who prefer glossy or matte finishes may choose from two different types. The gloss in red is what I chose. I have had no issues with the operation, nor have I encountered any catches or resistance. In comparison to the original gray ball that came with my ERGO, I haven't noticed any differences in operation. In my opinion, the dark red color of this ball is actually a little nicer than both the original silver ball and Thus far, this replacement has been working out very well for me, despite it not being a high-end product.
