As far as I know, this adapter will not affect the speed of reading and writing. In this case, the StarTech Power eSATA is simply an interface device, the R/W speeds of connected devices will be determined by their own capacities.

If I connect a USB drive to my computer, is it recognized as a USB drive or as an ESATA drive?

Since my daughter card is not working, I have been using the adapter as a USB port in order to use my mouse, flash drive, external hard drive, etc. I have been able to delay the purchase of a new computer by using it this way.

I tried to get two TVs connected to one input at the store, but they wanted me to spend a lot on equipment in order to do that. This device fulfilled my goal exactly You can't go wrong with this and I will buy another one for patio season when I can sit outside and watch TV.

This gadget comes at a hefty price

There may have been a price difference between this gadget and the others. My problem was not solved since it didn't work as advertised because an external USB hard drive doesn't work as advertised with a TiVo Roamio DVR which requires an eSATA drive. Oh well, at least it worked. Living and learning are two of the most important things in life. Later, I might be able to find another use for it.

In my case, I connected my account. I was unable to get this to work. My USB drive was connected to my eSATA port, but it was unable to transfer power to it.

Having a problem with your laptop

My brother's laptop suddenly stopped working the USB ports, and the only way he could connect to USB devices was with this adapter, via the eSATA port. It works great for the purpose for which I bought it. *After using the product for a few weeks, the plastic started to chip.

The DirectTV DVR is not compatible with this app

A Direct TV employee told me to buy this so I could download some programming I had on an external hard drive. The technician was wrong, though. I tried this on Direct TV DVR, but it did not work. As such, it was a waste of money. I'm sure the product works well for what it's intended for, but not for Direct TV DVRs.
