Questions & Answers

I'm just curious as to why the lock is connected to the DC port. The image is somewhat deceiving. ?

The icon label in this photo does, in fact, represent a "DC" current port; however, the photo is not accurate in any way. The lock is designed to fit into a locking port (a small rectangle with metal behind the plastic for reinforcement) and pivot (by key) once inside. I was about to ask how they got the lock to STAY inside what appears to be a POWER connector (DC) port.

Is the lock loose or wiggle-able when it's inserted into the slot? Is that what the problem with the Kensington brand lock was?

It wiggles a little, but it's not going anywhere.

Is there a way to find out the dimensions of the lock that connects to the computer?

It is universal and can be used on any computer. About a third of an inch long by a quarter of an inch wide.

Is there a Kensington slot on a Dell Inspiron 1545 that this device will fit in?

I just got mine, and it is NOT compatible with the Dell Inspiron. The slot is just a fraction of an inch too small. It's a perfect fit for my Toshiba.

The Dell Inspiron 5570 is not compatible with this model
4/5

I recently purchased a new Dell Inspiron 5570, as well as this cable lock. It did not fit on my Dell when I attempted to install it. Dell now uses a smaller locking port on some, if not all, of their laptops, which is approximately 1/16" too wide. br>It's Dell's fault, as well as mine, for not doing more research before hand; lesson learned. The Nobel Lock TZ18T or Kensington N17 are the only options for my laptop model. br>I hope this prevents others from making the same error I did. br>In terms of the lock, it has a solid appearance and feel to it. 4 out of 5 stars for not including a compatibility statement for Dell laptops on the website.

It was simple to use and perfectly matched my Dell laptop
5/5

This 6-foot security cable was purchased to prevent my laptop from walking away while I was storing it in a non-accessible location. profit. Theft is not an issue for me. I just want to make sure it doesn't get "borrowed" and then forgotten. These cables will prevent such an occurrence, but they are not a foolproof theft deterrent. They're none of them. Anyone with a screwdriver and enough force can free them. Why pay more for a super thick expensive cable when the weakest link is that little tab that goes into the computer? The purpose is to deter the casual thief or "borrower," and this cable does the job for a very low price. This was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much!.

My Dell XPS 8700 is compatible with this case
5/5

They come with a Velcro strap to keep the excess cable in place. The lock was easy to operate, and the key could only be removed when it was locked. It fit perfectly into the security slot in the back of my computer, securing it to my desk and keeping the cover from being removed. br>br>Because the locking bar isn't very large, this is more of a deterrent than an honesty lock; I imagine a thief could easily break it off with a hammer if he didn't bring one. Alternatively, you could be in a public place. It's difficult to snare and run with it when this is the case.

Peace of mind at an affordable price
5/5

This product is both cost-effective and easy to use. Overall, I'm satisfied with it and consider it to be a good buy. br>br>I've been using it to tether my PC laptop in coffee shops and restaurants for a few months now. So far, the lock mechanism has proven to be mechanically sound and durable. What I like about the cable is that it isn't too stiff, so it curls up nicely and slides into my laptop bag for transport; additionally, I don't have to worry about a wild, stiff cable flexing all over the table while I'm trying to work. The swivel on the lock's end allows the lock to easily mate with the laptop while the cable rests comfortably on a table. When mating the lock with the key, this design allows for a wide range of motion. the laptop's slot The cable is rubber coated, but the coating does not adhere to itself, causing it to loop around furniture and through its own end. loop in a smooth manner br>br>While anyone with the right tools and time could probably cut a security cable, this is another layer of protection to keep my laptop safe while I'm away.

Excellent security
5/5

During my first week on the job, my laptop was stolen. I work from a variety of locations and am constantly on the move. After my laptop was stolen and I had to get a new one, I went online to look for some extra security measures and came across this lock, which I purchased and immediately began using. The cord is a little stiff, but it appears to be very secure. My coworkers joke that I'm a "bike lock" because I carry around keys for my laptop, but they're laughing because with this lock, my portable electronic computer won't go anywhere and I'll be able to spend my time doing more productive things than filling out police reports.

It does exactly what it says
5/5

This does exactly what it says on the tin: it locks anything that has a standard "kensington" opening, which is common on laptops. The fact that the lock is attached to the cable with what appears to be a rivet is my only minor concern. I believe the rivet can be removed. However, the cable could be cut with the right tool, so this device is more of a deterrent than complete protection against all attempts to break it. During trade shows, I use it to secure my laptop to the table, and it works perfectly.

This is a fantastic lock for a low price
5/5

Because of the positive reviews and the fact that it was a key lock rather than a number lock, I decided to purchase it. I've seen a couple of videos on how to pick some of the other brands of dial locks, and they're pretty simple. As a result, I went ahead and purchased this lock. It was only a dollar more than the equivalent number lock, so it wasn't too expensive. br>br>The lock is basic, and the cable is average in thickness. Scissors aren't going to cut it, but a determined thief will almost certainly have a pair of dikes or another cutting tool on hand. Laptop locks act as deterrents rather than providing foolproof security. If you're concerned about your laptop being stolen, simply keep it with you. I'd get this lock in a normal situation where you won't be leaving it for days on end. It's simple to use, effective as a deterrent, and it makes me feel a lot safer about leaving my laptop tethered to the desk. br>br>One thing to keep in mind. Because one end of the laptop cable has a loop, you must loop it around something solid. A chair leg, like a desk leg, is not a permanent fixture. As a result, make the best decision possible. Included are two keys.

This is one you should buy
5/5

You've seen everything there is to see. This does not appear to be a low-cost product. It arrived in Apple-quality packaging. Someone spent a lot of time thinking about how to make a lock box. In terms of security, it accomplishes its goal in a straightforward and user-friendly manner. Sure, anyone with a mini bolt cutter could cut right through it, but it's perfect for deterrence value, and the cable length is ideal for locking to a table leg or locking loop (which my library has built into study carrels). The cable is flexible enough to allow you to move the computer without touching it, but stiff enough that it does not appear to be breakable without the use of tools.
