A good security cable for these devices has been difficult to come by. Most of them require something to be adhered to the back of the tablet, which I believe is both aesthetically unappealing and ineffective as a means of securing a device. I've used Kensington locks for a long time and was pleased to learn that they now make a cable for Surface tablets. I was hesitant to have something 'clamp' onto the kickstand, but after using the lock, I am very impressed with how well it works. When unlocked, the cable locks firmly in place and is simple to remove. I've since bought a few more to use and plan to buy more.
It may or may not be a good (expensive) lock, but in order to activate a warranty, buyers must create a Kensington account and provide their home address, and Kensington's terrible online registration has required fields for postal codes from multiple countries, making it impossible to use. And what about that blinking support chat icon next to the unsubmittable form? It just told me that it's only available during the day Monday through Friday when I clicked it. I'm a freelancer who has recently spent far too much time un-employed. Billable time spent attempting to submit personal information Kensington does not require in order to receive a $40 lock warranty. I'm returning it and remembering this disaster for the rest of my life.
This item appears to be out of stock or in short supply in terms of delivery. They finally delivered this to me after about a month and a half of waiting. When I finally got it, it was only in a bag with the directions slid inside (the directions were slightly crumpled, so it appeared to have been used or returned). br>br>Even though it feels loose and possibly insecure when I put it on, the lock fits the Surface Pro. However, I tried wriggling it a little and it didn't seem to be coming out. However, I'm not sure if it can be done with enough wiggling or pulling pressure in the long run. I'll keep using it because it's better than having no security.
This is a dream-based magical machine. My tablet, laptop, and Wacom tablet were all replaced by this device. I haven't noticed any offset between the pen and the screen because the drawing is fluid. The only disadvantage of tablet mode that I've noticed is that Adobe employs a lot of menus, which are difficult to navigate with a stylus. To the hot key menu commands, I'll most likely add a gaming mouse.
This was something I was hoping would work with my Surface Pro X. It only snaps at the bottom, causing the lock to rotate vertically. The Surface becomes unbalanced as a result of this. However, it is a strong lock. If someone wanted to steal the Surface, I'm sure they could simply snap the stand off.
It performs admirably and safeguards the device. My only gripe is that I had to figure out how to get the lock to lock in the first place - So I have to turn the key halfway to get the mechanism to lower, but I can't turn it all the way because it won't let me remove it otherwise. It was strange, but I figured it out.
The lock is flawless. Someone could probably break off the stand to get around this, but I prefer the extra security and peace of mind that comes with knowing it will be difficult to remove.
This was purchased for my son's Surface tablet, which he will use in his dorm at college. It's quite effective. It's something I'd suggest to others.
