Questions & Answers

If the units need to communicate with each other, is it possible to use ethernet rather than wifi?

It's true that a lot of these answers are dated. Please confirm that wired Ethernet works! Wired Ethernet provides the best backhaul channel (and it is happily so). I know this because all of my units (all four of them) at each of my locations get the same high speed network (typically 425 to 500 Mb/sec... I know there are a lot of answers from earlier years. Please confirm that wired Ethernet works! Wired Ethernet provides the best backhaul channel (and it is happily so). Since I see the same high speed wireless on each unit (all 4 of them) at each location (usually 425 to 500 or so Mb/sec on 1 Gig Internet service) when near to each one separately, I know this for a fact.

Would someone please explain this in more detail? Is this something I can replace my existing wifi with? Does it cost per month? The speed is great, but how is it?

Dropped signals are no longer an issue
5/5

It was such a good decision to buy these!! I'm so glad I did! As a result of moving, we had to change our Internet service provider The service we are paying for is 100 mbs, but we have been constantly testing 25 mbs There was a constant loss of signal that was the main problem The mesh system I purchased was an unknown to me, and I am simply delighted with how it has performed For my 2-story 1920 sq ft house, I only needed 2 units: Both are located on the second floor, one in the basement, the other in the living room on the opposite side In the past, I have tested between 90 and 105 mbps with no loss of connection or dropped signal It was a piece of cake to set up Update 2/29/2020: Definitely worth the money!! In the time I have spent with the deco, I have grown 10 times more enthusiastic about it My connectivity has been completely uninterrupted through this app, and it is perfect for your average user! All your connected devices can be renamed in the app so they can be identified more easily It's also possible to prioritize certain devices to get the most bandwidth out of them! A new network can be set up in an instant, and you can receive an email alert when a new device joins your network Thus far, I have been very pleased with this product and experience! Don't hesitate to give it a try!

NetWay Mesh Networking at a Great Price
5/5

The router has served us well for the past month, and so far we are extremely pleased with it According to the specs, we have seen an equal level of performance Our townhouse has two stories, so we bought the 3 pack, even though we needed only two The sale price was significantly cheaper than buying just two Our home is currently covered by two high-speed Internet connections, which gives us full coverage, no matter where we are I have had no issues streaming video to multiple locations at the same time With the new router we no longer experience any buffering in some corners of a couple of rooms, and we have more than 50 feet of outdoor coverage from the house, so we are now able to use our patio and courtyard from outside as well The speed tests conducted outdoors show significant increases in speed, while the range is significantly increased In terms of the router itself, it's a disc shape cut into 4 parts Is round and white, with a diameter of five inches Currently, we have the second unit sitting on the fireplace mantel in our bedroom, which blends in very well The same could be done with a cover An LED is on the top, but there is an option to turn off the light at night through the app, or you can choose to turn it off at all times The three discs are identical in size; the one that you attach to the modem becomes the primary disc Comparing this brand to others, be sure to pay attention to the specs Although this is not the fastest mesh network available, it offers In addition to a number of IoT devices (such as Hue bulbs, Wemo switches, and HomePods), we have laptops, tablets, devices, TVs, monitors, servers, security systems, and video surveillance equipment My experience setting up the app was very straightforward, and I'm happy with it you have many parental control options, including restricting the amount of time they are allowed to use the internet, determining when they may access the internet, and blocking specific sites or types of websites (I would have liked to have these options when my kids were teenagers) The router(s) do not support web setup, so you need a mobile device to set them up (I only have experience with iOS), and you should also have Adobe's Air App installed As well as setting IPv6, address reservation, port forwarding, DDNS, and virtual routers, the app provides additional settings There are also only two networking ports on each disc, which I find to be a drawback To connect to your modem you will need to use one of the CDs on the "main" disc So, if you need to connect more than one item to the router through wires, a switch will be necessary I like the Deco system so far, as I got it for under $170 on sale, which I think is a great price/performance combination Mesh networking options are currently available on the market in several highly rated models as of August 2018 We like the one here, because it meets all our needs and performance expectations at a reasonable price It is recommended that you know your needs and pick a system based on those needs

The Apple router needed to be replaced
5/5

As a fan of Apple, I am deeply entrenched in that ecosystem After trying several range extenders, I couldn't find a device that did the job and so I took down my Apple AirPort Extreme router I hated to do it, but it was too annoying to try and use WiFi throughout my whole house Since I swallowed my pride and got rid of Apple I have been using the TP-Link Deco, and am I glad I did! Three units on two floors, 20 minutes from start to finish Setup was the easiest I've ever done, and it worked flawlessly All rooms in the house have maximum WiFi It takes the same amount of bandwidth to use WiFi as it does for modems The TP-Link team did a terrific job!

Here is a video showing how to unbox the Deco M5 mesh router
5/5

Despite my reservations, I am happy with the system as a whole The product came in decent packaging but was a nice product It was fairly easy to set up if you know your way around The unit I was trying to connect to did not recognize When I reached out to tech-support, they seemed to be joking around It ultimately came down to my own effort to solve the problem only negative experience I've had with these units is the phone call with tech support I can get a strong signal from them even three doors down from me and they cover my entire house A nice feature is that the security suite can be used for parental controls, blocking of content, and setting specific device usage time The built-in virus protection and firewall can be used to block port scanning and other intrusions on your smart home devices, like TVs and Alexa Now that I've purchased 2 more kits for assorted family members, I'm ready to start on holiday gifts next week Cons: No protections built-in parental controls Easy to use app Small footprint Access point or router mode CONS: no protections built-in parental controls Cons: no parental controls Support by phone or chat No wall mount option No parental controls or content control setting on guest network Limited Number of devices to group together If you are looking for a mesh network that has full speed wired and wireless but is not ridiculously big and bulky I would highly recommend purchasing
