Adding a parallel printer to a network is a great idea
4/5

One of our HP 2300 laser printers was connected by a USB cable to our computer for years. As long as the computer was connected to the network and was turned on, it could be used to print from other computers. When the computer turned off, there was no longer access to the printer for anyone in our household. It's a good thing there is a parallel port behind the printer's It is theoretically possible to connect the Trendnet unit via a In theory, at least, I can do this, but the Trendnet device I have is very bulky and does not have enough room to plug in the printer plug, which force me to buy an extension cable first, and then make the Trendnt connection from the other end. If you want to use a 36pin M- connector, pick up a 36pin M- If you need it, you can use the F cable extension. It was easy to solve the rest of the problems once the first one was solved. Using an ethernet cable, connect the device to the router and the router to the device. You must connect a power cord to this device (it does not have wifi capabilities). Afterward, you will need to add the printer in the printer box. As soon as you add it, it will appear as a series of letters and numbers. Rename it to whatever you'd like afterwards. Macintosh users are not required to install the utility software (it won't run on Macs anyway since it runs on Windows). The eureka moment. Using my laptop and other computer connected to the router by wifi, they are all able to You don't have to worry if the main computer is on or off anymore. Keep the printer turned on at all times. You can print in no time. In addition, it recognizes my printer's duplex capability for printing two-sided documents. The cable I bought from Amazon worked perfectly, but I had to buy another one to make it function. So I give it 4 stars and no 5. A little slower printing is to be expected, but it's not a major When the job begins to run, it goes quickly.

I'm glad to see the parallel port printers get a second chance at life
5/5

In order to use this print server, I went for the wired version. That looks like a rock solid system. I have not had this problem with any parallel to USB adapters I have used so far. I was not able to use the setup instructions, which tell me to use the software on the compact disc. This could be due to the fact that my local ethernet is numbered in a different fashion This is the standard method. Although I was unable to follow H, I was able to follow A. In her/his highly rated Amazon comment for this product, Tan gave detailed instructions that worked like a charm. My favorite feature of being able to use the printer from any computer around the house is having it available. Clearly, the picture of this device ought to change. As other commenters have noted, the plastic housing is like three times the width of the device shown in the screenshot. It turns out that the connector for the Hewlett Packard 4L laser printer has a recessed jack, and therefore I had to simply take the circuit board out of the TrendNet print server, insert it, like I would a pci card in my A physical protective case is built to protect the bare print server circuit board from impact and moisture.

Those who have printers that have recessed jacks can use an adaptor to connect their standard printer cord to their print server. Amazon is a great place to search for the following terms You will find the right cable by searching for "Centronics 36 Female to DB25 Female. ".

It's time to give an old printer a new lease on life
3/5

The star rating is 5. Due to the loss of our good printer we wanted to get our old HP LJ-1320 connected online, but it was impossible with the old print server. As a result In the end, I ended up ordering an inexpensive replacement that I figured I could get going in a couple of days (2nd day shipping, though it took 3 days overall). I'd like to apologize in advance for the inconvenience. You may find addresses here. DHCP can be used to distribute address to this print server, so why is the address shipped with it? Is this an address that is frequently used as a default router? If I worked on a network out of the hundreds I've worked with. The default gateway is often used if it is available during a subnet's configuration, but I have rarely seen it not be used in that role. Could it be set up to send IP information via DHCP? Would it be possible to press a button to put it in DHCP mode? Then I must isolate this server from the rest of my network It has no problem finding it at any address, even if I take my computer off line or disconnect its network drives. In any case, I got it set The print function is not available. Over the years, I have worked in IT for a number of years, and I have never seen a printer server that doesn't My house had two of them. The deal is off. When I got to work, I borrowed a print-out from a colleague. An extension cable lets you extend your network The number of printed cables is over 50, while the number of printer extending cables is 0. Some of the facilities in my area responded to my call. A single one had never been spotted before. Then and now. In order to get one, I went back to Amazon. Due to limited availability of second-day shipping, we had to wait another 6 days, making it a total of about 10 days. Now that I am so much better informed, I have a greater sense of commitment to this little shop A gap exists. For some reason, I was unable to set up a printer even though I was able to change the IP address utilizing a web browser. This cannot be done by using the normal HP print server, which can be installed using the Windows printer utility as well. There is no doubt that HP print servers are much more expensive than others. I had no trouble using the software, but I'd prefer to be able to set up a printer just by giving the IP address and port number, without needing to worry about adapters. Having said that, I will admit that the picture clearly portrays a centronic end rather than a parallel one. It is unusual for me to do that, but I am going to take a hit for it. There was also an issue with the address mentioned in some of the reviews. I still find it As I set up the printer, I shouldn't complain about how easy it was to do so. I found a handful of little things about the set up to be bugging, but nothing out of the ordinary. Basically, so far, everything seems to be working fine. A C+/B- grade so far The reason for this is that Due to cable issues, the cost turned out to be a little higher than I had expected. There are no major flaws with it, but it isn't a great product.
