Questions & Answers

Are there any plans to network multiple external USB3 drives via this device and a usb3 hub?

As a matter of fact, I have this device installed on a networked usb hub and a large HDD is connected to it.

The UPS battery backup will be able to be remotely managed with this device?

You can connect it via USB if the UPS supports it.

How does this work with a low latency USB mouse? There is lag, or is it noticeable?

The type of infrastructure you have will determine how long it takes. The mouse should work normally for the purposes of a mouse.

Do you think that silex technology went the extra mile to make the DS-200 Is the 600 device server a Windows-only device, or does it also work with other operating systems such as Linux, Mac, ?

Although I do not have any experience with Linux, I have used silex AV receivers with both Windows and Mac computers for the past three years The service has been fantastic for the last 5 years. I would highly recommend them.

Currently only supports the FAT32 file system
3/5

The device will only be compatible with Fat32 if you intend it to act as a true Network Attached Storage device (what else would you need?). According to the sales pitch, the device is meant to be plugged into a USB flash drive (like a hard drive in a caddy, or a fireproof backup drive, etc. ). While you could access it via an IP address, they fail to mention that in the event it is FAT32 formatted, you can't write anything larger than 4GB to the device. This is true for backups but not for large files, movies, etc. Moreover, they have software on a computer or server that defeats the purpose and use of USB to IP, if we want to use that instead of USB to IP.

Performance that is solid Internet connection is required, but it cannot be used
5/5

A pro is Silex's software configurations and client software are consistent, solid, and easy to use, and if you contact the company for product support, you will be able to speak to a real person who can answer your specific In addition, the device allowed me to share any USB key with multiple computers on the LAN, and also help configure other hardware computer and communications equipment (such as the Motorola The cons are Some of the routers should be located at remote offices. These will be connected to the Internet via a local and remote firewall. Even though it allowed you to log in to configure your device, USB hardware keys (and possibly everything else) would not be recognized by the desktop app (it received I tried forwarding all the ports Silex indicated it uses on the LAN, but they weren't working. Silex has not made a commitment to ensure that this will Please let me know if this is correct. A bridged VPN connection, with both networks sharing a broadcast domain, is required to accomplish its goal. Since Oct 2018, no off-the-shelf device is available yet that can do this unless you use a Rasberry Pi with As solid as Silex, this product appears to be as well. Due to your obligation to go You can brew an online coffee For those with a compatible device, Silex may wish to modify their protocol in order to accommodate.

Using a HD webcam over Ethernet is a piece of cake! Our goal was to stream to Facebook Live from an IP webcam, transmitting with OBS (Open Broadcaster Software)
5/5

To accomplish this we used a USB to Ethernet converter from Startech. While the video and audio was sent, the quality was lower than we'd like. Although the Startech device only had a webcam, it was capable of USB 2. 0, but we were unable to connect a full-HD monitor. It was also required that the Startech device be on the same VLAN (subnet) with the computer it was connecting to, despite the fact that you could specify the IP address of the device. Would not traverse subnetworks. The Silex DS-100 on the other hand is a Our converter has a USB 3 port, and when we connect a webcam to it (a Logitech camera) and connect it to a client computer, it appears in full HD and behaves 100% as expected. There is no drop-off We made it out without a hitch. Furthermore, we found that the Silex had the capability to traverse subnets, which was very useful. Furthermore, the Silex has a second USB port (although it is a USB 2). (0), which is ideal for connecting other USB devices such as a A test was conducted, and it worked fine. I am pleased to report that both products delivered video to OSB without complaint, as if they were local webcams. For this application we had tried a couple of IP cameras, but they did not work for us. It may not seem like much, but the Silex DS-1000 We give the 600 a huge thumbs up!.

Canon R40 scanner is a good fit for this software
5/5

A scanner (especially the R40) is said to be slow with it. While using this, I did not notice a significant drop in scan rate. In this case, the PC was configured to a network switch that was also used by the switch. Using this method, I could scan a USB drive for a virtual machine without being able to share it with the host.

My portable hard drive is not recognized by the product
3/5

I can see thumbdrives on all the computers on my network but am unable to see the portable hard drive. I have sent two emails to customer service and now have a response Almost a month has passed since I sent my last message. The company offers no support for users who want to share a portable hard drive over a network, and I wouldn't suggest this device to anyone.

I love it! In one of my units, the device runs multiple USB 3 hard drives and a USB to Serial adapter
5/5

As well, I have the USB 3 port hooked up to a 4 port USB 3 hub for extra support.

Your local network is the only network you can use
4/5

On the local network, the unit works great. A port to forward to on the unit would make it possible to use it on an outside network.
