Questions & Answers

Is it compatible with NTFS hard drives?

By extending USB devices over Ethernet, this product is essentially an extension of USB devices. The USB driver on your computer ensures that every device you connect to your computer works. If your NTFS drive works on your PC and on the drive connected to the DS-III, it should work with the DS-III as well The number 510 is also included. A program running on your PC connects the 510 firmware with your PC. In addition to the USB level, the distance between the drive and the PC, the ethernet infrastructure capacity, etc., latency and throughput will be in accordance with those factors. A PC on your network can now access the drive (but only one PC at a time) plus the range of PC and drive connections has been extended.

Do the usb license dongles allow the licenses to be served over the network with this device?

All of these work perfectly in something like half a dozen applications, only thing that changes in the newer models is the transmission speed, all models use the same client software. I have tried four different models of this and they all work flawlessly in various strange applications. The device is extremely useful, and acts as a local USB port, making the computer appear as if it is plugged into a PC. The only improvement would be if it was powered by PoE. If you want to turn one dongle license into ten, there is no way. Think about it, can you write ten files at the same time from ten different clients? You could still remotely manage all your dongles, perhaps in a secure area where no one will lose them, and when a client needs one it can connect to the next available one on the list and then release when done. This could potentially reduce the number of dongles

Is it possible for two computers to connect to the same device simultaneously?

As per the description, this is not the case. In addition, printer auto connect can be used with Mac or Windows systems and is designed to allow PCs and Macs to work together to share a USB printer over the network with an automatic connection between the computers.

How do you expand the number of usb connections to a remote computer using a USB hub?

As a network printer server, I use it to print labels on a Dymo labeler through a router so all computers can run the labeler it does a great job. When you install the software on all computers, it looks for an address to list devices to be accessed, setting a limit of one per computer per time to prevent them all from using a device at once, and releases each computer's hold on the device on request from another. This product comes with one USB port on the back, but that may be there for people who don't want to connect to a router (as some may not wish to do so). the Computer can see the USB hub, it might be able to provide what you need, but I don't want to mislead you by saying more than you need or want. This may be what another person has used it for. As for the device itself, it's its virtual software that is critical rather than its physical characteristics. I'm not sure it's hardened to work with hubs. I am sure, however, that it works as a device server, and perhaps if the hub is recognized as a device, it works as well. Having said that, most servers will only allow one device to be used at a time, which may not be what you are aiming for.

The plug is not connected Enjoy the game

It is mandatory to run Silex software on the machine where you intend to access the devices plugged into the DS-70 It doesn't matter how many times you follow the instructions, you will never get to where you need to go. In order to download the installation files, you must search in Google for a link to the Silex website. I find it so sad that the instructions have no value. In fact, the device is quite useful as soon as you are able to use it. A third old powered USB hub did work (another old one had issues but worked the first one) so I can add even more thumb drives and hard drives to it, and they will all work!.

I have yet to experience much success with any other print servers
5/5

I have tried a couple and they worked only for a few minutes. There seems to be no issues with this one. The DYMO 4XL was used with it. After you have installed your print driver, you can print. Your printer needs only to be connected to power, your router's wire, and the USB port on the back of your computer. Last but not least, you will need this. A virtual link software called SX Virtual Link. In order to accomplish this, it convinces your computer that your printer is directly connected to your computer by USB, even though it is connected via When it is available, it will say so. A connected printer will appear as soon as you click on it. As well as disconnecting and making it available again, you can also make it unavailable again. It is obvious that no two computers can use the same USB port. In order to resolve this problem, you can click on the Request Use button from another computer (for which you must also have the SX software installed). All computer release times for each computer are set to By clicking on request use, you will have the option to disconnect the printer from someone's computer in case they forgot to disconnect it from their computer. There are no problems with the program. only thing I couldn't get it to do was to disconnect from the DYMO after it finished printing, but it does do it almost as well with the request use. There is also the option of shutting down each time you are One of us uses the DYMO almost all the time, but the other uses it rarely. In this case, it would be wise to continue connecting one and to disconnect the other when they request it. As long as this continues to work as well as it has been, it will be the best print server I've ever By using the request to use button, you can avoid the possibility that someone might not disconnect and leave, and you'll then never be able print. Having it automatically disconnect would be extremely helpful, but that would only be achieved if there was an automatic disconnect feature on the DYMO instead. You might have to change that based on your You can configure all these features in the software by right clicking the printer when it is shown and changing the settings under connect and disconnect. The settings should be It is close to perfect in my opinion, although it would be perfect if it automatically disconnected from the DYMO, but I don't think this is enough to lower it to a 4 since I have had many bad servers from mainstream vendors on Amazon, including top rated ones. As well, its not too bothersome to disconnect and connect again on every I was expecting it to The truth is that it's not. There is no need to add a Request Use to make it easier for you to disconnect. It simply counts down the 10 seconds until the request is sent and you can see the request is being presented. It is set to 120 seconds by default. I believe that's too long for DYMO, which prints immediately, but you might want more than 10 seconds if you think your printer will continue to print after the person who is sending you the document an expensive print server, but maybe it's why it works better, it has cut down on the trouble I used to have with other print servers that went on and off at random.

Audio over virtual USB works with this software! I edited it Devices that have been attached to SX Virtual Link for 11 months will no longer work
3/5

As far as I'm concerned, nothing has changed. My web configuration webpage is working fine I can ping it, I can manually change its IP, and I can re-map it Flash the firmware of the device. There is no way for me to use the device on my Lan computers It is not possible to get support. Trying to find a similar solution elsewhere that is more reliable. In my case, I had to handle a virtual USB audio port as well as serve up standard virtual COM ports, and this device behaved as advertised, unlike a few more expensive options. It has been on my network for months and has never caused any issues. In addition to using it remotely, I have also used it over a wide area network. It is a good product. Two or three more USB ports would have been fantastic. To my knowledge, I have not yet connected a USB hub to it.

The Xfinity cable modem I have to use for my account is As it turns out, both USB ports on the modem are permanently disabled, as they were on the cable modem under my cable service. My initial idea was to connect an external drive containing family photos and videos, like I used to do with the WD modem over the cable service. It turned out Silex DS-100 would be the best solution to this issue An Ethernet interface has been connected to the 510 device server so it can serve as a Then, I installed the Device Server Setup for Windows file from the Device Server Setup for Windows website, using the USB cable to connect Silex to the external drive. This tip is very important Ensure you have turned on network discovery and file sharing within the Network and Sharing Center/Advanced Sharing Settings. A good PDF manual is provided at the Silex site for installing software, and the drive was discovered instantly after software installation was finished. Only the Computer configuration part of the setup was installed on the other computer, and the drive showed up. However, access to the drive was disconnected Access to the external drive is limited to one PC at a.

Compatible with Mac OS X 10
3/5

7. 5 or later. Compatible with Mac OS X 10. 7. 5 or later. It would have been helpful if they had stated this in the product information. After an hour of rewiring and trying to install the software, I found the printer wasn't compatible. I shouldn't have bought one, spent the hour rewiring my printer cabinet. Please be honest and open about your product in the specifications for it, Silex. All the product information should be available online rather than having to dig through all the Q&A It is possible to discover major compatibility issues, such as. . The NEW MACs are here! Despite your efforts to streamline the process, your customers are still waiting for Mojave It is not sufficient to refer to the "14 OS and earlier". Older versions of printer drivers still work in most cases, so people are used to installing them. Please be as explicit as possible.

I was amazed at how well the USB to Ethernet converter worked
5/5

An old ethernet Network Server/Adapter called AnyWhere USB connected my USB device to the network. I find this replacement to be wonderful. This was an easy to install, provided nice software (you have to download) and very easy to configure. If you're not tech savvy, you might need some help from someone to do this, but it's really From what I could tell, it had one feature/quirk that was not written down, but once you find it out The peculiar feature is as follows Upon finishing using the USB connected device from your computer attached to the network, release the USB device to allow any other computer on the network access. Any other person cannot access it if this is not the case.

I like how it works
4/5

My external USB drive can be connected to my network without a problem. There is only one device that can be connected to it at a time, but that's what I need for my use case. The fact that you have to use software to connect to a computer isn't as painful as I thought it would be. In short, all you need to do to connect to the drive is click once, and you will be connected the entire time you're connected to.
