I am very disappointed in the quality of this product. StarTech is still selling it, but they don't support it anymore. The device works irrespective of the operating system and uses standard data transmission. However, StarTech has not added support for this device to any of its newer applications despite having support for nearly identical devices that do not My application requires the use of POE, so this was the only solution that worked in Windows 10 and worked with this device as well as many other devices that used the same standard for data transfer. Since this device is so expensive, I had to pay for an application that works with it. StarTech does not support this device with Windows 10. However, this device does work regardless of which operating system you use. The device itself works perfectly with a 3rd party app, but that's not all. The device is used for connecting my TransLux FairPlay MP3 Player A NewTek's LiveText scoreboard uses the 72 scoreboard controller for a live score graphic.
The particular software install requires the use of a password which support is unable to provide.
The firmware is broken and won't allow 2 Stop Bits to be used to configure even or odd parity in RS232 settings. In industrial machines, an even parity setting, 7 data bits, and 2 stop bits are common. This device cannot be set to an even parity setting. Hopefully, a firmware update will resolve the issue, but the latest firmware is dated 2006, so it seems unlikely that such an update will be forthcoming.
