The new lock fits in the existing N slots (like my old Kensington,) and works as well as my older one. In the grand scheme of laptop issues, I cannot see the need to change the lock slot for any reason. I couldn't get ahead without Dell, so thank you for making me spend more money! My wish is that you will have no slots open.

There are some models of Dell that are hard to lock. My Dell laptops can only be locked with this lock because it is the only lock that fits the smaller wedge notch. I have no problems putting in the lock on my Dell XPS 15 when I push it through the hole. Although my spring-loaded latch does not always close when I push the lock into the hole for my Dell Latitude 3410, it sometimes does. Turning the lock until it gets to a point where the latch can close fully to its original position is what I have to do. Once I lock it, I'm able to use I have to turn the lock to just the right position so that it will come out when I take it My Dell Latitude is the only one that I've experienced this problem on. In the same vein as some others, the roller wheels for changing the numbers are small and close together. There are times when it is tedious to turn one number without causing the adjacent one to turn as well.

The machines I use for my work have to be in good condition since I take it home every day. As long as I complied with the security guidelines provided by my employer, I am not subject to disciplinary action. Although this product (or any other laptop lock) will not stop a determined thief, it may assist someone who has lost their wits. With a cheap wire cutter, it can be easily defeated. As well, a good yank will do the job, but it is going to be the laptop's structure that gives out, I gave it five stars because it does what it was designed to do - I recommend it highly Thieves are discouraged from stealing. Being aware of the fact that deter does not mean prevent is important.

For my Latitude 5501, I'd earlier purchased a Kensington combination lock but it wasn't compatible. My first attempt also showed it to be compatible, so I tried it and it fits in the hole and locks securely. You'll need to be aware of where to put the key since it's a key lock rather than a combo lock. My first impression of the lock was that the head is so small. It's not like I'm used to big, lumpy things hanging off of the side of a laptop, but this one is.
