The adapter had no serial number on it, so I assumed it was a knockoff. When I compared this to the original adapter that came with my 2013 MacBook Pro, I found it to be significantly better. This is designed for a 15-inch laptop, but it will fit a 13-inch model as well. It won't have to work as hard for the 13" because of the higher watt rating. I have a few of these, and they work great for both our 13" and 15" monitors.
The thicker cord that goes into the wall outlet is 6' 6" long, while the thin computer cord is 5' 6" long.
The extension cable was also missing from mine. The device has all of the usual markings on it and comes in a genuine apple box (albeit a much smaller one than they usually do).

Please be aware - I believe that some of the older reviews on this site are for the same listing, but from a different seller. It was listed as being sold by Apple, distributed by Amazon, and arrived in Apple packaging when I ordered it (in April 2018). It looks and functions exactly like my old charger.

After reading reviews about electrical arcs and burning, I was hesitant to consider the less expensive options. Saving $60 on a knock-off is a win-win situation for me. In less than three years, I'm on my fourth one. After six months, they must be patched with moldable rubber or electric tape, and then they will last for another four months. For my 2014 MacBook Pro Retina, I bought this Apple MagSafe 2 power adapter. The plastic housing on my original power adapter began to peel off this month (July 2019), indicating that the original cord lasted 5 years, despite the fact that I use my laptop for hours every day. I have no doubt that this cable will serve me well for the rest of my computer's life. br>br>It comes in standard Apple packaging, so I know it's from the original manufacturer. I wouldn't put my pricey MacBook Pro in the hands of a third-party power supply. br>br>It has a nice green LED to let you know it's charging your device, and the magnetic connector easily disconnects from your computer when you pull too hard on it, which happens a lot, or when you put too much pressure on it from above or below, which also happens a lot. Other connectors, such as USB C, would simply break the cable or cause damage to the port; additionally, the magnetic connector is bi-directional. The entire cord is long enough to reach my wall, but it comes with an AC plug to fit the brick if you travel and need the cord shorter. It had only been used three times. For the past four months, I have spent the majority of my time in bed. The cord had already snapped. I'm not sure how many apple chargers I've purchased in the last few years. Anyone considering purchasing a Macbook should factor in the cost of two of these chargers. br>br>In addition, the weak magnet prevents a long-term connection.
