Questions & Answers

Can you tell me how much storage capacity is available?

In my case, I used 16 TB (Seagate EXOS) drives and filled it with 8 drive bays, so here are your maximum This is an example of what it means to RAID-IT You can analyze and compare the data in the subsequent columns to see where you stand. A theoretical 8x16TB system would yield 128TB of storage (RAID-1) A theoretical average of 8*16/2TB = 64 TB (RAID) The following are my settings (5). TB = 7x16 TB = 112 TB (theoretical) *raised-stored parity TB = 96 TB (theoretically) This is for RAID-0 There must be one drive designated for redundancy on your five drives. A RAID system is a In order to use 6 drives, you must The write speeds on this NAS for a RAID-5 array are fast The five are near full wireline speed even when the four Ethernet links are all connected together. It took me over 400 MB/s to back up another QNAP NAS into this NAS (also connected to another QNAP NAS). In the event a NAS (or any other NAS) is configured There is a noticeable difference in the write speeds on the 6. The drives in a NAS will need replacing after 5 years, so I back up the entire system, then rebuild it as RAID As a result of the NAS' age, the capacity is less, but the probability of more than one drive in the NAS going bad is higher. In fact, I have multiple generations of these larger QNAP NAS systems and can't imagine any other way to describe them.

Can I use this with a Plex server to view movies and shows in 4K resolution?

If you are interested in using the TS-Path, you can find the instructions here . You can add 873 for additional storage to an existing Plex server, that works well. The TS-100 can be used if you want There is also the possibility of using the 873 as a Plex server. It is not recommended to use AMD models. Models made by Intel are preferred by Plex. I appreciate your kind words!

Could this NAS be actually used as a virtualization station and be able to run VMs on its own or can it only be used for storage? I cannot figure out how to access the QNAP site. ?

In addition to serving as a VM host, it can also serve as a storage device

Adding an optional USB 3 port will allow me to connect to the computer. The addition of one gen 2 card to the The 573-4833 Would I be able to hook up this fast USB connection to a host and use the TSF Are 473 and a dash the same? Thanks a lot?

This NAS will not be able to be used as a data storage device through USB connection, so it cannot be used In some cases, you can connect a NAS directly to a PC through USB quick access, but it is still an IP over USB connection, so you still wouldn't qualify as DAS, since it is mapping network drives using I appreciate your kind words!

NAS that makes you want to play all the time
5/5

To this NAS I switched from a Synology DS1817+. I am so in love with it so far. The system is powerful and has a lot of options for upgrading. It now has 20 GB of RAM, thanks to the addition of two 8GB modules. DA2), which increased the speed of Ethernet by ten times. I receive and upload data at a speed of around 350 MB/s with RAID 5 configuration. There is a bottleneck in the speed Since RAID 5 read/writes data from and to three disks, there is a reduction in speed. Once I add more disks to RAID 5, the speed will increase. Also, I added a graphic card (MSI GTX) to the transcoding process. The fact that this card requires two slots forced me to sacrifice my SFP+ port, so I had to use a PCIe expansion cable (10cm) to extend the graphics card's connection. A configuration such as this works perfectly as it is only used to transcode. With this new feature, I am able to transcode movies right at my NAS with lightning-fast speeds. Please take note It is not possible for AMD processors to transcode. As well as upgrading it with two 500GB WD SATA drives, I also installed new cables. For caching data, we will use two memory sticks in RAID 0 configuration (RAID 1 won't help much for RAID 5 because SATA M is used. A maximum speed of 560 MB/s is allotted to the second device). There is only one major drawback to this QNAP NAS it only accepts SATA M drives. The maximum data rate is 570MB/s on two sticks. NVMe M can't be supported on this device. It can support up to 6000 MB/s with two sticks.

It is a great system in general
5/5

My primary reason for buying this was so that I could use it as an iSCSI target for VMware, and it is a great match. An excellent interface for management can be found on the desktop. It is easy to find everything and intuitive, as well as nicely designed. The desktop is quite slick and eye-catching. There is nothing more ugly than the hardware I have not needed to contact their tech support yet, as I have been able to find everything I need either in the interface or on their website.
As a bonus, I discovered that the Surveillance Station app that comes The continuous recording feature was not even what I was looking for, but it works well and keeps the streams available at all times. While the native software from the manufacturer of the camera is inconsistent at best, this is a far superior solution. I also really like the Network Interface Management, with the ability to only bind services to each interface that you need. I turned off all other services on the port I connected directly to my server for iSCSI to prevent unnecessary broadcasts. I'm not often so impressed with a product, but this one proves it to be a very mature system.

There is no guarantee of DLNA's reliability
3/5

This NAS is fast enough to run Roon, so I bought it. When I finally managed to get it to work with Roon with my Roon, the audio worked fine. There is a music server ready for use. Basically, I put in two 3TB hard drives as well as I think this is good for music, but bad for home photos and videos and non-musical items The roof- You need a ready device. In the meantime QNAP has stopped supporting it) and everything is fine I do the same thing with my WD NAS. For users wanting Roon, this will work (but don't rely on the Roon website for support). You can use this simple tool if you want Once I installed DLNA on my NAS server, I had no problems with my single or two-drive systems The WD NAS has four bays. When I called QNAP customer support, they were very friendly and courteous, but they were not able to explain or help explain why their DLNA server was not working.

A set of QNAP TS-compatible products The 573-4833 As a pro In other words, it does exactly what it has If you have 2 4TB drives in Raid 1, then your link will max out at 1Gbps The multiethernet interface can be used to bond containers or to isolate virtual machines
3/5

The following cons A dead rear fan was included in the box. The fan I used was an old high-pressure fan from an old cooling unit and it runs really quiet.
With almost anything added to the system, the standard 4GB memory will be consumed very quickly. We have a joke of a privacy policy. Block the NAS from talking to the web at all costs. As a whole There is not as much a speed difference as in the old home build, but it is greener and less energy-consuming. Plus, you won't have to deal with any headaches. The program is easy to use by simply turning it on and moving some data. There isn't a lot QNAP can do for the basic home user, more for technology oriented people. It takes a bit of time and effort to set up QNAP, and it isn't very So to return to the main reason for using a NAS, it is so that your data does not reside on someone else's server. It sends a lot of data about how the applications are used. The last thing I want is my photos or worse my W2 documents being given to a 3rd party without my explicit approval. The idea of it being universally accessible would be fantastic Data transmission has been cut off even for telemetry. It is blocked from gaining access to the web as a result of that.

This is a great I am using a QNAP NAS for the second time
5/5

I've had my first one for more than ten years, and it's top quality. The RAM was upgraded to 64GB and the cache was increased to two 512GB m2 SSDs. I really like what the latest versions of QTS have done for the system. The NAS has everything that my last one lacked (PCIe slots / more RAM / VM and container support) and the tool-set to set it up I couldn't find on the previous one. A nice touch to the design are the drive sleds that don't need to be driven. It seems at first like they did not put the same amount of money into them as my last Qnap (they are all metal), but they have actually done a good job. In fact, they have become very solid now and prefer plastic over metal. There are only two things I have to complain about If RAM were cheap as it is these days, it should have had more than 4GB as it cost $900. There should have been a screen showing the status of the device, like my last one. I think at least 2 1GbE ports would be sufficient in the place of the 4 1GbE ports. Five gigabit Ethernet or five gigabit Ethernet. Even most motherboards come with either 2 or 4GB of memory. This is not a cheap or entry level product. I get that 10gbE would be expensive. Five gigabit Ethernet. I find the heatsinks included with the m2 drives to be In spite of that, this thing flies and is quite amazing. My next update will be in a few years to see if it has held up as well as one of my previous ones. My previous system has still been running, but I wanted to go with something with more bays and a recent.
