HI AM, yes, QNAP can be used as a storage target if you follow these protocol steps There are three main types of storage NFS, CIFS/SMB, and iSCSI. I'd like to thank you for your kind words.
In that case, it would be compatible if files are stored using SMB or FTP.
Thanks for your question Kristine, indeed all QNAP NAS devices work on Macs. I'd like to thank you for your kind words.

The device comes without hard drives and has 2 gigabit ethernet ports and an SFP+ 10G port. It does not come populated with any storage. A 1U slot is required in order to mount the NAS. In order for the 1U rack mount kit to work, it must mount in the middle of the slot, as the screw hole on the kit is positioned in the middle of the plate, not on the top and bottom as other rack-mount kits do. You can mount it on the wall. In the initial setup, the device is autoconfigured by using DHCP. There was one slight problem when I was trying to setup this device it detected the other QNAS device I had on the network and appeared to pick up its configuration (IP addresses, storage settings, etc. ). After doing a complete restart of this device in a segregated network, reconfiguring it there, and then installing it on my regular networking environment, I was able to use it. In addition, there is a restriction on how many hard drives can be purchased by Amazon per month at current time of writing. Whenever you do not have the hard drives at hand, make sure you plan accordingly. Message

Update It has an issue with the design that leads to the removal of a star. A competitor had some hard drives for me, so I put some hard drives in this bad boy. The unit began leaning significantly in my rack as a result of the added weight of the drives. My first assumption was that there were loose screws, so I double checked and found everything to be secure. Nevertheless, I believe there are compounded problems. There are only two screw holes on the mount brackets, so not only does it mount into the rack with one screw, but the slot only covers had been a mounting hole on the top of the bracket and if they'd used two screws per side instead of just one, I would think that would have made it more stable (since there wouldn't have been an object inside the bottom slot to hold it up). The QNAP rail kits are sold for a reasonable price, so I guess I understand why they chose to do it that.
QNAP has a lot of features at a cheap price and its management interface is very easy to use. Although I was unable to get their certificate to work through my firewall, I was able to get their website to work. It was my intention to try something in the newer firmware, but I haven't been able to do that yet (see below for more information). enable the array to auto-configure (UPNP), the array takes over control of my website. That was no problem for me since I simply disabled UPNP on my firewall, and I am now online again. With the new firmware, it appears you can configure which services to setup, so that may not be an issue any longer. While it works great with the SFP+ port, I doubt it will scream without SSDs, but that's fine. In comparison to the old array, the new array was impressive in terms of transfer rates. Having a unit this short depth works well in my home office network cabinet. Everything seemed to be in order - until the cable fell out. A week after the array died, it was destroyed. When I contacted QNAP, they replaced it, but the replacement died after two A similar problem was experienced with both units, in that they would not turn The return period for Amazon has now ended, and I am no longer eligible for a refund. The customer service department of Amazon told me that it is unlikely I will be successful in returning this item. I am now stuck with a second dead array, and I am waiting to find out how QNAP will handle it. It may be a little too brand new to market, and there may be some issues with it. However, I have nothing negative to say about QNAP, or their support staff. Just maybe this model has something terrible wrong with it. In the meantime, I will search for this and update you as soon as it is resolved. would have liked to rate this unit with 5 stars, but at the present time I have to give it a very low rating.
I am a big fan of good customer service. Unfortunately, the service people at my server had a problem and had no idea what they were doing and said that the server was not working. Customer service is not good, so I wouldn't recommend buying their products. They will leave you hanging with no help at all and they cannot be reached when you need them. It is impossible to believe they're in business with that poor of a service. I EXTREMELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL BASED ON THEIR TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
There's a good chance the item was an open box. This is a great product at an excellent price. Description of the product was accurate.
Since rack ears are provided with screws that do not screw into the 1U device, rails need not be needed. Additionally, the 1U device itself is If you are planning on placing it in a small office rack at home, then you should not purchase it.
Disappointed in the fact that it stopped working in less than two months.
As much as I've been looking forward to getting a NAS up and running, I am super anxious to set it up. Considering the cost, I found this device to be very good value. While I have flashed the firmware numerous times and am trying to slowly upgrade the firmware version to the latest version, I am still only 50% ready for production. I'll update the review as soon as I get this thing up and running with the latest firmware and include a tutorial link. Although I am ten hours in, I am still not optimistic. It will depend on what happens.
