Questions & Answers

Is it possible to transcode 4k videos with this using Plex?

The CPU I am using does not seem to be capable of transcoding this well.

What is the impact of the arm CPU on read and write performance?

Thanks for visiting the Musser Family. As each use case of the NAS differs, the CPU performance has a bearing on read/write performance. With 10GbE connections, the CPU might be a bottleneck although more bandwidth is available. CPU performance may also vary depending on the nature of the data transfer, and your results may also be affected by the configuration of the NAS, and the environment in which you are working. Thank you for your kind words!

Does it have to come with the rack mount kits to mount in a rack?

Whether you plan to mount it or not, you will need a rail kit. The mount shelf can be used OR you can place on it. Even if the ears were strong enough, they would not be able to hold weight on their own.

Do you allow 46TB hard drives to be installed ?

The answer is yes! it in mine, and it works great!

SMB or advanced home user will find this NAS to be excellent in terms of performance
4/5

I recently purchased a new rack mount NAS that is from late 2017 or early 2018. In a cardboard box with two sheets of styrofoam protecting the unit, the unit was delivered. I don't have anything fancy to say. There are two pullers that can be used to mount and take down the display from the rack. The rack mount kits are designed for the 19" rack, and they fit easily. A Western Digital NAS with four and 4TB of storage was paired with this NAS. I had no trouble installing and enabling RAID 5 with encryption. However, it took me 12 hours to fully initialize the setup. These fans have an extremely low noise level and are of good quality. As we can see, QTS (QNAP's own operating system) includes a large variety of features that make it so useful, including the QVPN (QNAP VPN) servers. These servers can run A station for surveillance that includes two licenses for being used as a NVR. will have to pay more for more cameras if you wish more cameras to be attached to the NVR, which costs approximately $70 per camera. This is a bit pricey, but you only need The QNAP app store offers a variety of free downloads and you can use them for free. In terms of learning curve, it is not steep, but it does demand some fundamental technical skills as related to networking and storage. Keeping all settings as they are allows you to ignore them once everything is set up. The two 1GB NICs in my network are faster than SFP+, and I do not have a SFP+ in my network. The model is equipped with four USB ports, which can be used to connect an external drive or UPS for monitoring purposes. It is a rack mount model and for $550, it is a good deal, especially for its features and tiny footprint (1U with a depth of 12"). How can four stars be better than five? In some areas, adding on doesn't have to be expensive and should be obvious. At least one of the USB ports can, for example, be placed on the front of the device for easy accessibility. Is it really necessary to place them all It has a total of 4 HD status indicators, 2 NIC indicators, and one It would be great to add a small message display at the front of the machine that shows relevant NAS data. A QNAP TS-200 is also in my collection. This one is a 453 Pro and it has all that, but it's getting old, so I upgraded to a newer one. These tips will be useful for you Make sure to buy a base model with 2 GB of RAM installed and do not replace it with an 8gig RAM. Is it really true that you would have to pay $150 more for an 8GB model with RAM installed? A 8 GB RAM can be purchased for less than $40 if you shop around, and the installation takes only a few minutes. For your convenience, I have attached a few pictures. I appreciate it if you gave me a thumbs up if you found this review helpful. Please accept my sincere thanks. I am pleased to announce the launch of Product The following are the dates for 1/29/2018 In the week following my purchase of this NAS, I noticed that the remote backup app, called the Hybrid Backup app, was not working. I observed a situation in which when I attempted to back up my files from my new NAS to my old NAS, I was unable to select it from the drop down menu, even though they are both on When I removed the Hybrid Sync app though, I had been able to schedule remote backups with the old backup/restore app. When I called QNAP support a couple of times about this problem, the first tech told me I was using a non-QNAP device I knew that the memory module supported by the laptop was a In the end, I talked to the second tech, who also attempted several TeamViewer remote sessions but could not resolve the issue. There has been an update to the Hybrid Sync app today, which has resolved this problem immediately. As a result, I feel that the QNAP techs either weren't informed about this bug or there was an issue with internal communication. In the event this bug was caught or flagged, the tech would not have given the caller run-around instructions Here and there. Those involved in the project simply had to report the bug to the development team and have it fixed. The little episode was frustrating, but this unit has otherwise continued to work perfectly and fairly steadily. The project has so far not encountered any other issues. The following are the product updates for the month of August On Wednesday, 3/6/2018, we were notified of the following There has been a very high level of stability in the system. When I had to restart it only once, it was due to a firmware upgrade, which is always required after a firmware upgrade. A reboot can take anywhere from 10 to 17 minutes, which is significantly longer than the Intel Celeron based 453-based laptop I have at home The pro is. In addition, even though the unit has three ventilation fans, it tends to warm up a lot while stacked on top of another 1U rackmount I think it is a good idea to leave a little space (half U, perhaps?.

This isn't a very reliable source
3/5

Synology had been a long-time NAS user for me and, for the most part, I was extremely satisfied with it. The QNAP NAS I purchased several years ago was better value than their Synology cousins, so I transitioned to the QNAP line and have owned 3 QNAP systems since. There is a TVS in my family Both TS- 1282 and 1283 are available My plan was to use the 431XeU as a backup device.

I was interested in the TS-32CE. Aside from the 10GbE connection and the short chassis of the 431XeU, the short chassis and gigabit connections also contribute to its success. My ram has been upgraded and my rack has been set up. It was a very positive reaction at first. Rsync worked once I got it to work, so I could 'forget' about In the process of completing its intended task, 431XeU achieved the intended outcome. This was followed by a connection drop. I noticed I didn't have backups and I couldn't connect. I reset the device, but it didn't help. The RMA process for QNAP is quite tedious, as the technicians ask the same questions via email over and over without actually understanding what you've answered. My RMA was received and I waited for it to arrive, so that was normal. The time it took to send and then receive my replacement was about three weeks. As long as it worked, it's okay. Everything seemed to be working fine, until it wasn't. As usual, everything went smoothly this time. A new TR-10 is on its way to me My TS-004 will be attached to this document In order to extend my backup capacity, I added 431XeU. While I was dealing with the TS-I, everything went smoothly for about 2 days. I did not receive a response from 431XeU. Nearly all of the electronics I own (NAS, computers, switches, TVs, etc. ) are connected to Power problems are not a problem at my house I just like the free flow of information, and when there is a problem (I live on the outskirts of town) the UPS treatment usually takes care of it. My TS-information did not show up so I checked it No power to the TS- 431XeU, check the UPS, power cable, basically everything and make sure the power is on The U. S. 331XEU. My workbench spans the distance between the receiver and the rack, so I pull the receiver out of the rack. I don't know. My port lights up but I do not hear or see any fans, lights or sounds coming from them. When the dreaded RMA Q&A time rolls around An & An An & An When the technician asks if my RAM should be replaced, I dance. RAM is known to cause problems with power-on. When I asked him why, he replied that it is a RAM issue. Having worked with computers since the mid 80's, I have seen RAM cause BOOT problems, but I have never seen RAM The problem is especially serious on a device that has already been running for a year. Having replaced the RAM, I suddenly found I was unable to get any As a result, QNAP offers an easy method of upgrading (and replacing) RAM. Now that I don't have my TS- it is a little tough For the second time in less than a year, 431XeU is on the list. TS-202 is a great device and I am so happy QNAP offers a warranty, but, honestly, despite its form and function, I cannot recommend getting this device It is impossible to use the 431XeU due to its poor.

A new upgrade is needed
5/5

NAS devices made by QNAP are excellent. Though I am unable to speak to all of the devices, I have had a great experience with them so far. My previous ownership of three variants was quite extensive. selected this one because it has a 10GBe NIC that works with the rest of my When I wanted to implement Cache Acceleration of 1GB, I discovered that I needed 8 GB of RAM to add that size. It was in the fine print so I hadn't noticed it. A QNAP tray that allows stacking of two 500GB SSDs and an aftermarket 8GB chip were the items I picked up. It all worked for me after I set the trays settings to RAID0 (1GB), worked through a couple complications, and got everything working. Even though QNAP can be a bit pricey, it performs well over the long haul.

In less than two months, it broke
3/5

It may be dead for any number of reasons. Two fans are spinning at a time There is nothing else happening after 3 seconds. Now that we realized we bought this item, we wish we hadn't bought it.

Within 9 months of the accident, he was dead
3/5

The unit died on me after 9 months, as others have stated. There is nothing bad to say I love the product. I just wish its reliability was better. I was provided with an RMA by Qnap. The new unit took about a week to arrive. The box that they sent me contained a brand new one. There were four drives in a RAID 5 setup and I feared that I would lose all Once all the radios were connected and the firmware was updated, I was ready I left it just as I found The only thing I wish is that I could have faith in My old Freenas was more reliable than the one I originally put together with random parts five years ago.

It is powered by a 32bit CPU that is extremely It's stable, runs well for storage but anything else is unbelievably slow
3/5

The maximum speed is 130 mbps with 10 GB/s because of spinning disks. We will be able to connect SSDs at 300Mbps.

This rack mount NAS is priced very well
5/5

It works great, the QNAP GUI is easy to use, and it's easy to upgrade the DDR3 memory up to 8 GB. I wish people could run virtual machines on it, but it's not a deal breaker for this price.
