Getting back to ASUSTOR, HDMI output is intermittent, QNAP TS-S-D The 453D-number In a nutshell, My NAS is primarily used for storing audio and video files
3/5

My ASUSTOR NAS ran out of space, so I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade to Since the beginning of my experience, there have been intermittent problems with the HDMI audio output. Some days I hear sound, other days it is garbled and broken, and sometimes (HELP! it fails in an outright way. A persistent flicker can also be seen in the video. The issue is starting to become a hassle. I have an open Service Ticket with QNAP, but this is becoming increasingly frustrating. I actually had to configure this device longer than the 30 days allowed by Amazon's DOA policy. Be mindful of that if you purchase one of these devices. Having issues with my computer made it unreliable and hence unusable for my purposes, but it wasn't DOA per se. A QNAP technician has sent me the following

** The 2nd Update **
The issue did appear to be happening to some users. Version 4 of the firmware does not experience this problem. A new Hybrid Desk Station 4 and build 20200529 have been released. Would it be possible to downgrade the firmware and the hybrid desk station app, and then test if the HDMI audio output works? Prior to downgrading your firmware, I recommend making a backup of all your data. Downgrading your firmware is easy by following the instructions below. I do not believe that downgrading firmware is a viable solution. This is going to be a lemon for me. You can see a video of the flickering I am experiencing below. I agree that it is a little bit of a pain, but "someone" has decided that it would be a nice thing for me to submit it for repair, but it took a while. I find this option valid, but not very smart for what I need. Here's what I would do instead In case of other failures or if the device continues to deteriorate, warranty work may be required. How to repair? In my opinion, that would be a very stupid roll of the dice. My experience as an electronics technician and engineer for over 40 years has led me to have little faith in the "Repair" of this sort of item. Unless your experiences are very different from mine, I anticipate yours to be similar. I interrupt problems if they come back after I repair the item. The intermittent problems will haunt me for the whole time I use the item. In addition to that, I will not have access to the data for a longer period of time. Let me have the motherboard and I will swap it out on my own, but I need it to be shipped. I understand your point of view, but protecting my own data and productivity are the two most important concerns for me. In this case, the problems are with the HDMI audio and display functionality, not with data storage and retrieval. My data is at risk, according to my opinion, with the solution proposed to me. I have informed all parties involved regarding this item. The only thing they can do is perform diagnostics from a manual. In that case, I will get back the same device with the same issues. Therefore, I should copy my information to another device and find someone who will use this one, despite In case of other failures or if the device continues to deteriorate, warranty work may be required. This is going to be a wash for me with QNAP, and I'm going to continue using This QNAP Service ticket can no longer be accessed by me due to the 3rd Update. Nothing was resolved, so they closed it out. A Customer Service Survey was mailed to me. I basically told them I got a lemon and that I would donate it to the HS Science Club if it can be of any use.
We're back to ASUSTOR once again. I think I will be done with QNAP. Good luck to all of you.

The product was great, the deal was great, and the fun was endless
4/5

Several comparisons were made between Synology Diskstation and this device. My Synology used to be my primary storage device for ten The performance was quite good. I mostly used it for storage and reverse proxy, but I did not do anything else with it. Qnap offers cheaper security camera licenses compared to what I found on the internet. What I expected is better than what I got. In many reviews, there are complaints about the user interface. It seems to me that the UI is okay. The configuration was a lot of fun even though I had to do a lot of research before I made any decisions. The main purpose of my account is to stream video and monitor security cameras. It was easy to upgrade the memory. A 16GB (Timetec Hynix IC) was added to make it 20GB, with no issues. As I do not plan to run virtual machines, I didn't bother with the PCIe SSD cache. I found that there are very cheap PCIe cards that can work with NVMe M. Memory 2 is a small amount. If I don't do it now, I may It's a great deal compared to Synology from a hardware perspective. You do not need the original expansion card. There is more possibility for 3rd party software to be integrated, and from a security perspective, that could pose a risk. Even if I were to put sensitive information on NAS, I would not do so. Keeping things off line is the best way to protect them.

Update Having worn the cheap PCIe card for NVMe m for two months, I found one problem that I did not like. I can use the SSD as a cache only if I have two memory modules. The Qtier system does not work for me. I should also avoid using it as cache memory for write cache since it would have a chance of failing before writing to the Hence now, it seems like you may be better off using Synology if you really want the M. There are two SSDs in each Synology NAS as they are built-in. It appears that Qnap is not cheaper if I have to buy the RAID PCIe card. Well, I guess I am still getting cheap CCTV I have removed one star due to this reason.

QNAP systems are at risk of security breaches
3/5

My suspicion was confirmed after I had purchased this product and discovered that there is malware that can steal your documents and account information. If you do this, the entire home network is at risk of being attacked by There hasn't been a great deal released about how the malware may have been able to infiltrate or what measures have been taken to remedy it, only that you should update your firmware. In my home, I like to have a NAS, but I can't recommend the product at this time due to the security of the product. Everyone should put this at the top of their priority list. I think it's a great piece of software, other than the security concerns that I hope will be resolved soon. Getting a NAS is something that is very important if you know how network protocols work. This is my first NAS in my house. If you don't know what you're doing, you may leave yourself quite vulnerable. Despite the security issues, this device would get 4 stars if not for the high cost of the device. If you have the time, you can set up a NAS for a lot less money.

You should go with Synology if you're using Plex
3/5

have no regrets about purchasing this NAS, but I have high hopes for it. While setup is easy enough, I was surprised by how difficult it is to set up the software I want. And that I was prepared for, but then I found out that all the software they boast about has licensing fees, including the license you need to access external hard drives using My first choice would have been Synology if I could have it all over again. To be honest, I have decided to build or buy my own home server so I can be certain it has the power I need to handle my needs. Also, if you want to use this NAS as a Plex server you should be aware that its file system is hidden, so I had to search forums to figure out how to get access to the Plex system files needed.
