Questions & Answers

Is pin #9 of the serial port connected to power?

It does not support power outputting on Pin 9 of the ICUSB2321F USB to Serial Adapter

My tech skills are not all that great. What if I want to connect a 2nd led display that has a VGA port to this? The second monitor would be a great addition to my computer. ?

There is no need for a serial comm connection. This is for connecting a device with Even though the pins look similar (this is 9 and video is usually 15), the device will not work with video or displays.

Is it possible for me to assign communications? If ch1 = 1, then com1 is the result. What is the difference between com16 and ch16?

With the ICUSB23216FD, you will be able to assign / change COM ports. *br> *br> As well as that, the ICUSB23216FD supports COM port retention, which retains the assigned serial COM port values. Visit our Support page for more information

Do this USB to Serial adapter work in all of the typical settings that most USB to Serial adapters work in? I needed to replace one and wasn't sure what FTDI stood for. ?

That's right, it will work. This is even better. This USB to Serial adapter works the same way as any other USB to Serial adapter, such as those made by Belkin or other manufacturers. In spite of this, it has some better features, so I'll keep it in mind for the COMM PORT, so that it will " always " work when it's plugged in or removed. Having one of these will be the best thing you've ever owned. Those that were left were tossed out. I am a Ham Operator and have a lot of devices I don't always use, so I unplug them, but when I plug them back in they act like "new hardware" what a pain. After getting these cables, I was able to always have the correct Comport Settings and now I can plug in many devices, including I can test equipment, and it would remain intact with the software. The only recommendation I would make is this one. I guarantee that you will love this book and be so happy with it.

You should pay attention to UART in the absence of FreeBSD support There's no way to do it There are no published standards or specifications for this! The card had to be returned
3/5

For those who are technically inclined, here is what you need to know. The FreeBSD operating system does not be supported. My requirement was to run a specific application on FreeBSD that was tailored specifically for it. Please ensure that you have a look at /usr/src/sys/dev/pub/pucdata if you need FreeBSD support. In /usr/src/sys/dev/uart/uart_bus_pci, you can find the C executable. I forgot to check the kernel for hardware support. Make my mistake to your advantage by checking the kernel for support. Under FreeBSD, the card is properly identified (the PCI bus is enumerated and the card is bounded to a device name), but the 16C1050 UART does not have a driver. Isn't a 16C1050 UART a combination of two ports? The technical specs for this chip are nowhere to be found. In other words, even if I wanted to modify the FreeBSD puc kernel driver, I couldn't, since there is no specification available for the UART in question. does not just apply to this board but any board that is labeled "compatible with 16C550" or similar. You should exercise caution with such boards. You can find boards like this one on Amazon as well. The only reason not to use com is that they use vendor drivers that are undocumented and may lose support as operating systems change. It would be best for you if you could find a native 16550A, 16650, 16750, or 16950 UART. PCIB3@PCI 0, PPI-0 This is the class 0x060400 card 0x00000000 chip 0x10801b21 rev 0x04 HDR 0x01 vendor = 'ASMedia Technology Inc. the class is bridge
there is a PCI-related subclass. @pci0 no1@pci0 In the end, I ended up buying a SIIG 2 because the cards were 0x04d0214a1 and the chips were 0x04d0214a1 at rev 0xb0, hdr 0x00, on that vendor. Item E02111 has a OxPCIe952 chipset. It is listed as a supported device and of course found in the uart and puc drivers of FreeBSD. The 16950 is provided by two native UARTs on board.

You can see the SIIG with the chipset can be used and I verified that it actually does work! This is root@foobar The command to grep for the UART device is /usr/src/sys/dev/uart # The OxPCIe952 supports the USB UART Bus via PCI. This is [0x1415, Root@foobar and-

Windows 10 is a strong alternative to this software
5/5

The USB cable my wife used to connect her court reporting machine to her laptop had an older serial port. It stopped working when we upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10. The original cable's chipset is no longer supported, as we discovered after conducting a lot of research. I had no trouble installing this cable and it seemed to work without a hitch.

The MacOS Big Sur operating system runs smoothly
5/5

Since the release of MacOS 10. 6 Big Sur, my go-to app has become Plugging into a USB interface It stopped working after the serial adapter, Keyspan by TripLite, was installed. Drivers for the Prolific UART chip in the Keyspan rely on signed drivers, and there is none for Big Sur. As this device uses the FTDI chip, it was ready to use straight away. Add a USB to USB-C cable and you're good to go, no need to install a driver You need to plug the adapter into a C outlet and all is well.

It can actually run on Windows 8 thanks to Startech
5/5

The Gearhead USB to serial converter was initially purchased from a local computer store for use with my new Dell Inspiron 3000 PC running Windows 8 operating system. It was an error of judgment! It should have been checked first in Amazon reviews. The Gearhead unit came with a driver disk, and on the box said it was compatible with Windows 8. This is incorrect. A Windows alarm has been triggered in Device Manager about insufficient virtual memory when this driver is loaded. In any case, it did not work for me. The item has been returned to the I bought the StarTech adaptor from Amazon - it has a reputation for working with Windows 8 and has been recommended by Amazon users. It turned out to be true that the Dell eventually discovered the driver by itself when I connected the USB end. Neither the driver nor the installation program needed to be loaded With my Dylos Laser Particle Counter, which only has a serial port, it worked perfectly. I have now plotted particle counts on the A six foot cable with a Startech adapter is six It is very important when you are monitoring counts from a large particle counter in real time, and must set the laptop down.

The serial port of an older weather station is more reliable than the USB port
5/5

For my older weather station, I can't use my computer with a serial port because it does not have a serial port. It was easy to install and set up the StarTech USB to serial adapter. Find the driver on Windows 10 on its own. As compared to when I had it connected to my old computer's serial port, it works much better now. With another brand of adapter I tried, the weather station did not work properly. The object appeared for a moment and then disappeared. It's nice to know StarTech is working.

For users of equipment with serial console connections, this is the ideal tool
5/5

Saving time with this product has been a great benefit. In my line of work, I install storage arrays and these arrays have dual controllers that require a serial connection to be configured at the beginning. It's been a lot less work to have a console session open to both controllers at once than having to switch cable connections back and forth. We have tested this on both Mac and Windows versions of Windows 10 Pro with no issues. For users of equipment with serial console connections, this is the ideal tool. Additionally, networking software from Cisco and Dell works just fine with it There are cables as well as proprietary serial cables provided by Compellent SC4020.

The cable and machine work fine but not with the Startech system) Too bad
3/5

Due to a problem on my computer, I thought the card may not have been working. I called support, who were helpful in confirming the unit worked via a loop back test, but were unable to offer any further assistance The issue with my PC was resolved and I was able to get my hardware to work on the COM1 integrated port, but none of the Startech ports would work. In this case, I called support to explain that my onboard com1 works with my machine, but there is no connection between their unit and my machine. They advised me to contact my hardware vendor for more information. I tried to use the Startech unit to replace my siig 2 port RS232 and ugreen usb to RS232 (all of which worked perfectly) but it didn't work (even though I have tested it on various computers).

It only took a few minutes to install and configure the serial card! The new PC models don't have serial ports any more, so to communicate with my GPS unit (older), I needed a serial port
5/5

Even though I had to help the driver install a bit, this card installs quickly and was easy to set up.
