Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use this with a motherboard that has a parallel port built in?

Yes. Windows will easily support up to three parallel ports, LPT1 through LPT3, according to the Instruction Manual. The next available LPT port number is assigned to the new Card.

Is it compatible with Windows XP? I have an old software dongle that connects to my old xp tower's parallel port. Is it possible to install it on my Windows XP computer?

Connect the silver box to your laptop if it has one. Otherwise, no; instead, look into a USB to parallel converter.

Will Windows 7 support this parallel port? I'm attempting to connect to a plasma table that is controlled by a CNC machine. It'll have to be a 5 volt driver. ?

Hello, I'm running Windows 8 and using a Xerox Docucolor 4 printer from 2001. I have no complaints about performance or driver issues with 1 64bit.

Although this appears to be an ExpressCard 34, the description reads "ExpressCard 54." What the hell is going on, dude? What's the difference? A 34 is exactly what I'm looking for. ?

I'm not sure because I've never ordered this part before, but I was asked to write a review anyway. BUT I DON'T LIKE THAT, SO I CAN'T PROVIDE ANY GOOD INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PRODUCT. SORRY.

Windows 7 necessitates the use of a manual intervention
4/5

Because of my new (home-based) job, I purchased this card. I wanted to use my perfectly serviceable HP Laserjet despite the fact that my (custom-built) Windows 7 computer had no parallel port integrated into the motherboard. I started by plugging in the card but not the printer. Because the new card appeared in Device Manager on my system, Windows obviously detected it, but it did not offer to install any drivers. The card had a yellow exclamation point in Device Manager, indicating that it wasn't functioning properly: Because the drivers hadn't been installed yet, of course not! At that point, I manually installed the drivers from Device Manager, which went smoothly on my Win7 Professional 64-bit computer. a bit of software Thankfully, 64-year-old The card came with a CD with bit drivers. br>br>On my computer, the card defaulted to LPT3 rather than LPT1. When I tried to install my Laserjet 6p printer, this created a problem. It was unable to be found by Windows due to a lack of drivers. When I changed the card's port to LPT1 (again in Device Manager) and tried again, Win7 was able to find and install the correct drivers right away. When the port was set to LPT3, Windows recognized the attached printer, but when the port was changed to LPT1, Windows couldn't find any drivers. In any case, once that problem was resolved, everything went smoothly. (It's possible that once the port setting was corrected, Windows would have installed the drivers automatically. ) I didn't have to wait long to learn the answer. )br>br>Windows Update offered to install newer drivers for this printer before long, but I declined because the originals are still working. When it comes to Windows Update drivers, I'm of the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" school of thought. br>br>In conclusion, the device under review isn't quite a "plug 'n' play" device, but if you're comfortable fiddling with the above-mentioned-mentioned-mentioned-mentioned-mentioned-mentioned-mentioned-mentioned-mentioned-mentioned-mentioned-ment It should work with the above-mentioned settings.

- br>UPDATE (3-YEAR PERIOD) 2018): After 6. This card has been inactive for the past five years. It had vanished from Device Manager. I ordered a replacement that was identical to the first, but the drivers would not install. The StarTech online chat support was helpful, but their suggestions didn't work, so I returned the new card and reinstalled the old one. The old card reappeared in Device Manager, but with a driver issue, much to my surprise. I tried updating the driver with the files I'd just downloaded from StarTech, but it didn't work. incredibly - This method was effective. I suppose all that was required of the old card was for it to be re-inked. The card-swapping, of course, was used to get everyone seated. That is something I should have tried before ordering the new card, which didn't work in the first place.

OMG
5/5

This was successful with my IOMega Zip 100. OMG. This was a success. I was having trouble connecting an old iomega 100 zip drive to my old xp machine with an expresscard slot, but this product solved the problem. Previously, the usb/parallel port adapter had failed to work with a storage device connection for me, and I was skeptical that it would work now. After a lot of trial and error, I found that installing only the Startech expresscard in the slot and updating/installing the drivers from their disc for the entry PCI expresscard under Port(COM) worked. LPT). I changed the PCI device's port to LPT1 instead of LPT3 and enabled Legacy Plug and Play, then securely attached the PCI with its connector to the IOMega zip drive and restarted my PC (as mentioned, make sure all connectors are properly pushed in). I went to device manager after the machine came back on and noticed a VM0 device under Disk Drives, so I chose the option to update/install using the Windows recommended drivers. I noticed an iomega legacy message during the driver installation, followed by a new F: drive. Under Windows Explorer, there was a drive. I noticed that if I unplugged the pci card and then plugged it back in, the drive displayed a red question mark in Windows Explorer, and I had to restart my PC with both the pci and iomega cards connected before the drive appeared again.

It was exactly what I needed to get my old printer working again
5/5

To connect my old Epson Actionlaser 1500 printer to my new computer, I needed one of these. Of course, most new computers do not have a parallel port built in - This was a simple and inexpensive way to keep my old, dependable printer operational. I've also used these at work, and they're great; Windows usually finds and downloads the driver automatically, but if the site is blocked by a web filter, this card also comes with a CD.

It works well and is simple to set up
5/5

I was planning to buy the "value" version of this card (same manufacturer, but a few dollars cheaper), but I read on the Dell message boards that the value card would not work with the Dell Vostro line, so I bought this version because I was using it with a Dell (currently an XPS, but will be moving the card to my Vostro 410 in a few months). br>br>Very simple to set up - Simply place it in an available slot, turn it on, and the new hardward wizard will appear. For Windows XP, there are two drivers on the CD: I'm not sure what the distinction (if any) is. Windows installed the driver, but it displayed a warning that it had not been verified with Windows XP. It was simple to set up and functioned flawlessly. Using it with an old HP laserjet (a 4M) and a DOS program (yes, DOS). It's an old app that won't work on Windows). I wanted to put the old printer to some use, and DOS won't let you print to a USB port without a lot of fiddling. An old- LPT1 that has been fashioned, on the other hand, can be used without difficulty. br>br>It's great when plug-and-play really means plug-and-play!.
