Questions & Answers

Is this something that can only be purchased from a scalper?

Yes, around Christmas 2020, but I wouldn't buy from scalpers even if they offered a discount, preferring to wait until retail restocked. The purchase of a product at a retail store can be verified, and the purchase is covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

Why aren't there a heatsink and fan included in the package?

For around $40, you can add a wraith amd cooler. br>br>And yes, you will get the fancy lights, but they will not be enough to keep it cool for $20 more than the AMD wraith prism cooler. The scythe fuma 2 can be purchased right here on Amazon. br>br>And you'll get much better cooling than the 3700x's wraith prism cooler. Obtaining good case fans with RGB lighting is also a priority. That can run quietly and accomplish your goals without the use of an aio or liquid cooling.

How do I obtain a copy of Far Cry? I bought it right when it was released, but I have yet to receive a code. ?

I got the code from Amazon around the same time I got the notification that a shipping label had been created (4 days after the order was placed on release day). Even after the label was created, the product did not "ship" until four days later.

Is Far Cry 6 compatible with this? Amazon is a participant in the program, according to AMD, but they make no mention of it. ?

Far Cry 6 has yet to be given a release date. It was postponed after their previous games failed to meet expectations due to a lack of polish.

Why would you send a CPU in an unprotected bubble envelope? This processor is outstanding
3/5

AMD has made a significant improvement. Intel should be frightened by this. It's a hot CPU, so make sure you have a good cooler to go with it. br>br>For some reason, they decided that the best way to send a $500 computer part was in a bubble envelope with no other packaging. And here's the end result, which I'm hoping will work once I get my hands on the remaining components.

Great CPU, but a tad overpriced in comparison to its siblings
4/5

Pros - This is a fantastic CPU with a single-core processor. Core performance that outperforms any Intel competitor, as well as multi-processor support. Most of the competition is beaten in terms of core performance. br>br>It has excellent thermals and is extremely energy efficient for the performance gains. br>br>*From an I5-based system to an I7-based system Everything I can think of is smoother and more responsive at 2500K; however, your mileage may vary. br>br>Neutral - no preference. If you're wondering, it doesn't come with a built-in cooler. Considering the thermal performance, it's surprising there wasn't a wraith prism pairing with this 800x generation, but you'd be better off using an aftermarket cooler anyway. br>br>*Paired mine with a Cooler master ML240RGB and my maximum load temperature was 74°C before stabilizing at 64°C in a case with 'OK' ventilation under maximum load (CPU-Z). (Stress test Z) *The only things that were OC'd were my memory and the Infinity fabric. br>br>Cons - If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, this is the place to be. The two elephants in the room have now been addressed.
1. To even be given the opportunity to purchase one, you must be extremely fortunate. While it didn't sell out as quickly as the 900x and 950x, it was still a good buy. It did sell out more quickly than the 600x, and I have yet to see it restocked. 11/11/20br>br>2. 11/11/20br>br> When compared to its siblings on either side, this processor is a little pricey. The 5600x is a $299 processor with 6C/12T and 35Mb cache. br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br> br>*A $150 price increase for two additional cores, four additional threads, and one additional megabyte of cache? Ok. br>br>$547 for the 5900X 12C/24T with 64Mb cache. br>**For an extra $100, you can get four more cores, eight more threads, and twice the cache. TLDR: Excellent CPU, but overpriced by $50. Buy a 5900x if you can afford it (or even if you can afford it in the first place) because it is a better value. If not, set aside $150 and purchase a 5600x. Identical game performance and not too far apart in terms of production workload.

King of the Cores - PBO2
4/5

*EDIT* This CPU has only been 'available' for about two weeks at the time of writing, and I'll admit that getting one on launch day was a stroke of luck. Most people will have a hard time finding this until demand and supply balance out, but if you're lucky like me, here's what I've found so far: br>br>At its price point, this CPU is a top performer. There's a lot of data about the Ryzen 5000 series in benchmarks right now, and they seem to easily outscore most Intel competitors, as well as the previous Ryzen 3000 series line; personally, I don't think this is a compelling reason to buy this product right now, but I'll expand on value later; my previous setup was an 8700K, and I felt it was 'worth' the upgrade for me. I use it on a near exclusive gaming PC, with some occasional video rendering and I can tell you the performance gain on average is probably less than 5%. I play most games at 1440p% It's a lot more in rendering and workstation benchmarks, which is to be expected as the number of cores grows. br>br>In my system, this CPU is prone to overheating. At 105W TDP, it's a little hotter than I expected. I'm stress testing on a MSI Tomahawk x570 with an Arctic Liquid Cooler 2 280mm AIO, and with stock settings, I'm quickly reaching 75 degrees Celsius, with temperatures occasionally reaching 85 degrees Celsius depending on the task. I double-checked my installation and don't believe there's a problem. A Phanteks P500A with high airflow is also in use in my system. Others have reported this as well, and it appears to be limited to the 5800x at the moment. I've done some extensive stress testing and it doesn't appear to thermal throttle, so I'm not concerned; while gaming, the temperature peaks at around 68 C. br>br>Overall, I've had no stability issues or crashes so far, which is better than expected given AMD's recent history of being a problematic launch platform with driver/BIOS issues; hopefully this continues! br>br>In terms of value, most people who are interested will probably not find it worthwhile. The 5600x is the new series' (for now) value/performance king, but the 5900x offers significant benefits for just $100 more. The R5 3600, in my opinion, is still a fantastic value, especially since it can be had for around $175 on occasion. If the 5800x's price falls to $400 or less in the future, it will become a much more attractive purchase. Take into account that the AM4 platform is (ostensibly) at the end of its life cycle. You could make a case for 10th Gen Intel because of the potential for next-generation upgrades, but who knows if the wait will be worthwhile. TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL The Ryzen CPU is a top performer, but its value is debatable. It also runs hot. I'm a fan who wanted to invest in this series before we even knew what it was capable of, but most people will think this is unnecessary for a mid-season release. 1440/4k gaming on a high tier. *EDIT 1* - br>br>*EDIT 2* - br>br>*EDIT 3* - br>b For those who are curious, I've done some additional temperature and benchmarking and discovered that enabling ECO Mode in AMD Ryzen Master software is an excellent way to reduce high temperatures. It appears to reduce the total power draw from 145 watts (with PBO/OC mode enabled) to around 88 watts, while maintaining the same Single-Board Oscillator (SBO/OC mode enabled). Cinebench core score has almost no bearing on gaming performance. Heavy multi-tasking core workloads are affected by a tune of approximately 10% i. This is now my default setting, I've noticed CPU intense games dip a little, but still better than my old 8700K and temps on average are 20% less than my old 8700K and% This is now my default setting because as odd as it sounds, it keeps my fan/pump speeds much lower and therefore quieter and for 90 of the 1440p gaming I see n br>br>*EDIT 2* I've been using this CPU for about 9 months at this point, and I've spent a ridiculous amount of time fiddling with settings, optimizing, and looking for possible improvements in my cooling/performance solutions. I'm no longer using Ryzen Master to run Eco Mode. YMMV, but here are my BEST CASE results: br>br>In my MXI X570 BIOS, I'm using the following Advanced AMD Overclocking settings: Manually set power limits: br>br>
PPT - TDC - 142 watts 95Abr>EDC - EDC - EDC - EDC - EDC - EDC Boost Override - Boost Boost Boost Boost Boost Boost Boost Boost Boost Boost Boost Curve Optimizer: 50mhzbr>br>50mhzbr>br>Curve Optimizer: 50mhzbr>br> br>Best two cores NEGATIVE 10 (for me, this is core 1 and 7, check Ryzen Master)br>All other cores NEGATIVE 25br>br>This gives me my best undervolted temps via the new PBO2 update, 30 minutes of Cinebench R23 Multi peaking @ 78Cbr>br> The average temperature for gaming is between 55 and 60 degrees Celsius. Depending on the title, the temperature can range from 60 to 70 degrees Celsius. I can get to within 2-seconds with these settings. 3% of my highest overclock scores while not exceeding 80 C. I've also tested the stability of the game with hours of runs. br>br>One final note - If you have an Arctic Freezer 2 280mm AIO, Check which revision you have, and if it isn't Rev. 4, contact Arctic customer service, who will send you an 'offset' mounting bracket for the cold plate block that places it about 1 CM lower on the IHS. This may appear to be pointless, but I discovered that with the 5800x, it resulted in a much slower heat buildup and better overall temperatures of about 4-degrees Celsius. This appears to focus it on the CPU's actual heat-generating component, as well as making the cooler mount much easier in general. ARCTIC, thank you so much!.

This processor is a beast
5/5

It was about a week ago that I placed my order for it. br>br>This is a huge upgrade for me, and I can notice the difference gaming at 1080p. br>br>Amazon had an estimated delivery date of January 10 at the time, but it arrived early on November 21st. br>br>This is a huge upgrade for me, and I can notice the difference gaming at 1080p. My graphics card was being bottlenecked by my old Ivy Bridge CPU. br>br>I'm happy to report that temperatures are now normal. When not in use, the temperature should be kept between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius, with temperatures rarely exceeding 60 to 70 degrees Celsius when gaming. I'm using a Noctua NH-100 to keep it cool. U12S. OC to 4 was possible for me. br>br> Using Ryzen Master's auto OC, I was able to achieve a clock speed of 9 GHz. When I have more time, I'm going to try a manual OC. br>br>Highly recommended if you're looking to build right now and it fits your budget and needs. Based on this CPU, I would recommend any AMD 5000 series CPU you can find.

With a bent pin, it was delivered
3/5

I was able to order one despite the extreme scarcity, but it arrived damaged and I had to return it. This entire launch has been a colossal failure. Terrible.
