Questions & Answers

Do you think this will work with 18 TB hard ?

Even though the SATDUP11 was officially tested up to 4TB, it is also compatible with larger drives, such as those carrying 18TB of capacity. I am Brandon, at Please contact us at com/support

Is this method also effective when copying a 6tb hard drive to a 18tb hard drive?

A copy from a smaller drive to a larger one went without a hitch One Tb was upgraded to two Tb, with no formatting required because it was just the largest partition that increased. While a copy of a 2 Tb DVR drive takes about 5 minutes, it may take longer in some cases. I spent five hours on this.

Would this be the model that allows multiple images to be stored on the same source ?

What you are asking is not clear to me. The data will be copied in its entirety, sector by sector, from the source drive to the destination drive as long as the destination device has the capacity to store

When wiping multiple drives at once, this is not a good idea
3/5

We do not have any A performance that varies from week to week. It was delivered to me 3 days ago, and I have been thoroughly testing it ever since. It was purchased so that several hundred SATA and SAS drives could be wiped. In addition to regular hard drives, I purchased the $1k version that will support SAS drives (server drives). My first reaction was to encounter the following problems #1.

A very limited amount of documentation is available. In the "manual" that comes with this $1k unit, there are just 1 page of double-sided info that does not show any of the different wipe modes. To illustrate, consider the following. Is there anything you can do to "full erase"? Do you know what a "Secure Erase" is? Is the USB plug for wiping USB drives or for something else? I have never seen a USB plug before. Other than what I found on the internet, there is no official documentation for this product. 2.

A lack of consistency in speed. As a test case, I am testing brand new 2TB WD drives. I use three full erases on a single drive if I want to do a "Full Erase". It takes this unit 8 hours to wipe a drive, but since it wipes two drives at once, in theory it is possible to wipe two disks plugged into two different ports at the same time. It'll take almost twice as long to wipe two drives when you have two connected. It will take 6 hours for 2x 2TB WD drives to be wiped. As well as those two drives, I tested it with other drives. I measured a time between 5 and 10 minutes An average of seven hours is spent on each task. In a nutshell. Plugging in two drives at once will allow you to wipe both at the same time. There appears to be no built-in multitasking. It seems like you are pretty much doubling your wipe time. 1. *2. *3. As part of a wipe, if one drive finishes before the other (example There is a 2TB drive and a 1TB drive) and you cannot start a new wipe until they are all As a result, it is very frustrating because you should be able to pull the completed drive off, hook up a new drive, and start a fresh wipe, but you cannot. After all drives are wiped, you HAVE to wait for a new drive to be added .

4. Whatever the disk is, whether it is a 15k SAS disk or a 7200 RPM SATA disk, it doesn't seem to matter. When it comes to wiping, the speeds are pretty much the same. 5

It's garbage to give progress indications. The percentage of the wipe for DOD 3 may be displayed as Twenty percent. About 50 percent. Once it reaches 100%, it will drop back down to 0%. The reason for this is probably because it is wiping it three times, but what the REAL progress is not clear. You won't know exactly how far along it is unless you watch it for 15 hours straight, as it doesn't tell you via any text which pass it's on or how far along it is in terms of time. I. 6. The amount of time it took to clean the drive was not stated, so I did some testing (this is not a review, just a heads up for anyone who wants to know how long it takes to do so). A full erase is a feature of "Full Erase," but is not explained. In total, it takes around three minutes. 8 hours are needed for a 2TB disk to be wiped. It takes six hours to delete two disks in "DOD 3" erase mode. The same task takes 15 hours in DOD 3 overwrite mode. To wipe the two disks completely, you need about eight hours in "Secure Erase" mode. 7

. It becomes difficult to use the unit after about 48 hours consecutively and it has to be rebooted when the LCD begins to flicker. In fact, it continues to flicker and display some odd characters on the LCD even after re-booting. On the whole. In my opinion, this product is useful, but for $1,000 I expected a lot Neither the GUI nor the documentation appear to have been worked on in any way. In terms of what it is doing behind the scenes, what the various wipe modes do, I am not sure of how it will behave, so I have not confidence in.

This is a good news/bad news product, so please understand that I am not criticizing it
3/5

I appreciate the ease of use and the well-built construction, but it has limitations for me. The electrical problem I encountered was not one I attempted to diagnose since I am not a professional engineer. I did not contact tech support since this is a self contained sealed system since there is little you can do. Brief background
This product was purchased to make an image copy of my NAS backup drive and store it off site. A minimum of 24 hours must pass between the image copy and the NAS backup process so there will be no delay in the evening backup. I used the identical Seagate 8TB SATA Ironwolf drives as both the source and target There are currently 1 files on the source drive. It is estimated that 995TB of data has been processed. In any case, I was expecting the transfer rate of 6GB/min to be The results I obtained were completely different from what I expected. My initial transfer rate was close to what I expected when I initiated an image copy of the drive. Based on my estimation of 7 hours to complete the image copy, I estimated the file would take 12 hours to copy. Five hours are needed to complete the task. I expected it to be faster but it turned out to be within my expectations. A few hours later, I checked again and found that the copy was incomplete. According to the estimates of the expected completion time, it would have gone at nearly 20 hours of total run time. But that was not true either. Taking into account just 2 TB of data, it took 42 hours and 49 minutes to copy it. Data sizes of 2 TB (yes, I am using round numbers) represent only 25% of the approximate storage capacity of 8 TB. Evidently, I was not able to meet the time requirement. In my observations, I have found the following The amount of time it takes to copy each GB increased as the amount of remaining data decreased. The conclusion is It is an excellent product for those who do not have a time constraint or whose data to be copied does not exceed 250GB. However, if you need your disk freed up and ready for use within a specified time frame then perhaps looking at an alternative would be smarter. My name is not on the list.

This is a good solution if you want to clone your hard drive quickly
5/5

A clone of an entire hard disk can be created and stored on a library disk that can be recovered as needed to the original drive from which it originated or to a new hard drive. It is fast, much faster than free software for disk cloning. It's something I had at work for years, and I loved it so much I needed to get one for home so that I can be sure to have solid backups of all hard drives on my various computers that I use for software creation. Although the library images are in a proprietary format, I do not mind as long as I am able to retrieve them when I need them.

Duplicator with very high speed
4/5

My review of this duplicater is that it is the fastest and one of the best that I have used. Though I believe it loses a star due to its inability to work with some Windows 10 partitions and I have yet to figure out what the commonality is. In Windows 10 I often receive reports of BAD MASTER HDD when trying to duplicate certain hard drives. If I use my Carry On duplicator (which could be half the speed of the Startech), it will work with drives that the Startech was unable to write to. In spite of this small issue, I would highly recommend this Startech device for anyone who needs to duplicate a SATA hard drive quickly.

Make a quick backup of your hard drive if you wish to do so
5/5

It is the fastest way to make a backup of your hard drive as it can make an image of your drive or a copy of your hard drive on another hard drive of the same or larger capacity. How fast is it? If you use a Samsung EVO 750 in It can easily backup 50 GB of data in less than 15 minutes using a SSD as the backup media.

I like how it works
5/5

I like how it works. Creating copies of an entire hard drive in a very short time. This is an indication of whether replication has been successful. This is a sign that a sector is bad. We are very satisfied with the service.

This is a very useful you are a tech who routinely copies or erases hard drives, then this will be a great time saver and tool
5/5

There is one limitation in that you can't copy from a larger drive to a smaller drive.

It works as advertised, but I cannot copy the "file and content" mode
4/5

Works fine, but I was unable to copy the "files and content" mode from a large hard drive to a small. As an example I can't copy 8tb of data to a 6tb hard drive that has 4tb of data.
