Questions & Answers

Is there a capacitor on this? I require a capacitor model due to the high temperatures in the Caribbean. ?

Hello, yes, this has a capacitor (no battery). Scroll down the listing for a complete list of technical specifications. Temperatures above 90°F should not be an issue.

Is it possible to record both the front and back cameras with this device?

Yes, the front and back cameras are saved to a single shared microSD card (card not included). The front camera is labeled A, while the back camera is labeled B. For picture and picture synced playback, use the DashCamViewer app (Mac or Windows). (Neither an app nor a game)

Is there a motion detector on this?

The new firmware is version 1. Buffered parking mode is only available on Windows 8 and higher. Details can be found on the Viofo website.

Is it true that removing the rear camera will also remove any tints from the back window?

These cameras are mounted with a strong and long-lasting adhesive. Removing the camera mount from a window tinted glass surface will almost certainly result in the tint being damaged. Additionally, if the rear window has defogger wires, damaging the window tint may also damage the defogger wires, rendering the rear window defogger inoperable. To avoid damaging the window tint and possibly the rear window defogger, I strongly advise purchasing a new mount and leaving the attached mount alone. The two A129 camera systems I bought on Amazon were supplied by OCDtronic, who can be reached at support@OCDtronic for a replacement mount. com

The design is incompatible with the intended use
3/5

I bought into the "It's great for the price" hype, but $170 ($185 if you get the hardwire kit to use the parking mode, plus $10 for a microSD card, so let's call it $200) is still a lot of money for a Dash Cam that falls short in a lot of ways. br>br>First and foremost, the cable used to connect the rear camera is extremely thick, with large connectors. Because the connector pokes through the roof liner, the side that connects the rear camera is a straight connection, limiting how high you can mount it on the window. My Nissan Titan has a (motorized) sliding rear center window, so I planned to install this in it. If I mounted it on the window, I'd either be unable to use the window or I'd have to leave some of the cable dangling so that the window could still roll down, but I'd have a janky-looking cable hanging. The mount for the rear camera fits perfectly into a small strip at the top (where the window rolls up into), but I couldn't mount it due to the overside straight connector. Because of the cable's thickness, routing it was a pain in the buttocks, and it caused my roof liner to gap. I can now put my pinky between the liner's top and the actual roof. It's also difficult to conceal any extra cable due to the thickness of the cable. Even though I attempted installation in a truck (full size rear seating), there would still be extra cable if I installed it in my car. Because the camera's connection is angled and uses a proprietary connection type, you're out of luck if you want to use a straight connection adaptor. If I wanted that angled connection in the back, I'd have to spend more. br>br>This dash cam's app is a complete waste of time. It took a long time to get the thing to connect; it gives you some basic instructions, but when it asks you to connect to the dash cam's WiFi, it opens the app's settings instead of the WiFi section of the iOS settings. I couldn't find a way to change the WiFi SSID or password in the app (hopefully it's not the same default password on all cameras). ) The app kept telling me that I needed to connect to the internet, which I was already doing. After two attempts, I simply forced the app to close, and it worked. br>br>Once I got the app to recognize that I was connected to the Dash Cam's wifi, I planned to use the "Live View" feature to position the dash cam properly. The Live View, on the other hand, does not appear to be functional. On an iPhone XS Max or an iPad Pro 12, at the very least. [Sidenote: 9th] [Sidenote: 9th] [Sidenote: 9th] [Side Because there is no "iPad" version of the app, you'll get a scaled-up iPhone version that looks terrible. Why wouldn't there be a tablet version, given that almost everyone has a tablet these days and many people take them to work or wherever they go? It doesn't take as much time to develop as you might think. ]br>br>The camera is supposed to have two wifi bands, so why isn't there an option to have one of them connect to my home or work wifi when it's within range, so that when my mobile devices are connected to the same network, I can access the camera from the app, and the other band can be used to create an AP when I'm out and about? br>br>The power cable (not the hardwire kit) is the same bulky straight connector found on the back of the camera. This meant I couldn't mount it flush under my rearview mirror to keep it centered, so I had to shift it slightly to the right. I got the GPS version, so I'm not sure if the non-GPS version is any better. Whether or not the GPS version includes a different cable is debatable. But I'm hoping it does, because otherwise the long straight connector will protrude from the camera's side. Instead of a clumsy stubby USB cable to connect to a computer, they should have provided both options. br>br>They placed the microSD card slot on the opposite side of the camera from where it detaches from the mounting base, so that when you insert or remove the card, the camera pops out of the mounting base. It's also difficult to line up the camera with the mount to reattach them when it's mounted behind your mirror. Now it's time to talk about video quality. br>br> "Meh" is an apt description of the product's quality. " It isn't perfect, but it isn't the worst I've seen. " The video quality of home security cameras under $50 is comparable to or better than that of more expensive cameras. And, let's face it, that's all these "Dash Cams" are: surveillance cameras. A car fitted with security cameras. They all come with the camera, a power cord, and other accessories; the only difference is that one has GPS (which is not included in the $150 price tag). )br>br>For the price of this Dash Cam, you could get ten WyzeCams. Then affix a WyzeCam to each of your car's windows for complete security. Although the video quality will be poor, you will have captured every angle of your vehicle. br>br>Unless you're driving in downtown with a street light every 10 feet and no other cars on the road, the video from the rear camera is pretty bad at night. It's very grainy, and the glare from the headlights of the vehicles behind you reduces the amount of footage you can use. Similar on the front, but because most front-end traffic is moving in the opposite direction, the glare is still visible. You could purchase a CPL filter, but this will cost you more money. br>br>The G- br>br>The G- br>br>The G- The sensor does not appear to be working properly; It's possible that my device was defective. But after I enabled the setting, I shocked my truck, jumped up and down on the running boards, and knocked on the windshield, and the camera never alerted me that it had detected anything; There was no video footage saved. It did, however, sound an alert, but that was only because I knocked the camera off the mount while adjusting my rearview mirror. All of the tests were conducted with the sensitivity set to "high. " "br>br>The daytime footage is now quite good; It's not great, but it's adequate. However, this does not compensate for all of the other problems I've encountered with the product and its components. There is still some graininess, but it isn't excessive. br>br>Given that it's only January, I'm confident that more Dash Cam options will emerge soon. I should have waited to see what else came up over the next few months, but the one I already had (A119) in my truck had completely stopped working, and I needed to replace it. br>br>Now, as for the seller, I'm not sure if they opened the box to remove items, swap out items, or whatever (since I bought the GPS logger version, but the box it all came in says "GPS (Optional)" just like the CPL Filter and Bluetooth Remote (but I didn't get any of that in the box), because there was a card in the box from the seller, which I'm pretty sure the manufacturer would not have put in there), The devices box was not either sealed or unopened.

The more I use it, the less I like it
3/5

I bought it because of the sensor and the reviews. In addition, I was eager to add a park mode to my brand-new truck. I'm becoming less impressed as I use it more. Despite using the recommended Sandisk high endurance card, I have to format the card on a regular basis to avoid unit errors (I'm on my third card, two Sandisk and one Lexar, all 64gb high endurance). When the vehicle is turned on, the unit frequently does not turn on - The proposed solutions appear to be not using park mode (which is why I bought it) or not powering it through the GPS base - both of which I don't think are viable options. I'm not sure how either of those are the best options. When the GPS sensor is set to low, the unit will beep and display a flashing if you hit a bump on the interstate. for a few seconds, then stop recording One of these things is supposed to be a black box, right? I don't want to have to remember to turn it on (which entails unplugging it, counting to ten, and plugging it back in) or to disable parking mode so the G sensor can function properly. I want the G sensor to work in the city so that I can see people who park by feeling on my new bumpers. br>br>It's a little unsettling to be driving along, glance at your phone, and discover that it's frozen and hasn't been recording in who knows how long. br>br>To make matters worse, I've turned on parking mode, and my wife's car was broken into the night before. I don't think it'll be a problem because I've got my truck pointed right at it, and we've got this jerk on camera, hooray! nope. The motion detector failed to capture a single clip from the night. yay! What a wise decision. br>br>Spend the same amount of money on a rexing. If that one fails, the company will immediately send you a replacement, and you will have a functional unit. I have two forward-only rexings, one front-and-back, and this. I should have stayed with the rexing because the grass was greener on the other side. br>br>Update 5 br>br> 19br>I've given up on the gps base and don't use park mode because the two together cause the majority of my issues. Today I've deducted another star for yesterday's performance. A rollover accident occurred 5 hours into my road trip. I was planning on providing video, but hold your horses! I can't do that because the stupid thing isn't recording because it's turned off. br>br>Someone dinged my brand new truck's front bumper today while I was out shopping. Is that something I have video of? Of course not, because parking mode is never successful. Thank you, Viofo, for being there when I needed you the most! br>br>It's a shame I won't be able to give this product the profanity-laced review it deserves.
