This camera is incredible
5/5

This camera is extremely nice, and it has a factory-like appearance. The attached wiring harness has a very thin disconnect that allows you to pass the wire through a very small rubber grommet (as shown in the photo). Although the connector is so small that you might be able to pass it through a panel gap if you choose, I chose to drill through the paint with a step bit for the cleanest install. If you want backup lines, you can snip a wire, and you can reverse the image by flipping a switch. Two red 12V wires are also present, one at each end of the yellow RCA cord - As a result, you can connect to a power source in the front or rear of the vehicle. That level of thoughtfulness appeals to me. br>br>Many people express dissatisfaction with the fuzzy image - That is, without a doubt, a case of user error. Variable voltage is used in a lot of reverse lights. You will not get a good picture if you do not provide this camera with a clean 12V power source. It's best if you use the reverse light as the signal for a dedicated circuit for the rear view camera. I used a time delay relay to accomplish this.  .

On my 2006 F-150, everything works fine
4/5

SuperCrew is a crew of 150 people. I set up this camera (only the camera; I didn't get the back-up camera). On my 2006 Ford F-150, I have a view mirror. Last weekend, there were 150 SuperCrew. I was in the process of setting up a new Pioneer AVH-2000 receiver. The video screen was made from an X3800BHS head unit. Because I occasionally haul kayaks or other items with the tailgate down and still wanted to use the camera, I chose the license plate camera over a fancier camera mounted in the tailgate handle or under the blue oval logo. br>br>The signal (RCA plug) wire was long enough to run under the truck's drivers side, up to the rubber grommet under the driver's side door trim plate, up to the kick panel, and across the driver's side under the steering wheel to the stereo location. The wiring was the most difficult part, as it took a long time to figure out the best route to the grommet and then cut an "X" in the grommet to get the wire into the cab. I tapped into the red lead connecting at the stereo with the power lead from the RCA plug. I attached the ground to a bracket near the left rear tire by drilling a hole in it. Because it was difficult to get a terminal to attach to the ground wire, I spliced a short piece of speaker wire to the grounding wire and then attached the terminal to the speaker wire, which worked much better. The camera was relatively simple to install. I loosened the camera to angle it down, and it didn't want to tighten up very well after that, so I just adjusted the height of the bracket until the camera was resting on the top of the license plate frame when it was at the angle I wanted, and then tightened the license plate screws all the way down. Because the head unit's display options don't include backup lines, I snipped the green wire on the camera (as instructed) and the lines appear as shown in the photo. br>br>I've included a couple of photos that show the locations of some small orange cones I placed behind the truck, as well as the video output on my head unit screen. That should give you a good idea of the camera's visibility range in this vehicle. br>br>Overall, the camera performs admirably, but there are three improvements that should be made: 1. br>br> For the camera grounding wire, use a thicker gauge wire. br>2. br>3. Tighten the vertical adjustment installation screwbr> connect a ground wire to the RCA plug on the head unit, just as they did with the power lead - All of the power and grounding connections could be made at the head unit, which would make things a lot easier. br>br>For the price, and at least for the time I've had it, it's a good buy that performs as expected.

Oh no, it's suckiness all over again
3/5

It was only enjoyable for a short period of time. In the sunlight, it looked washed out, and at night, it was unattractive. Then it began to rain heavily, and that was the end of it; it was no longer alive. It lasted no more than three months in my possession. It's a huge waste of money for a low-cost camera that can't handle the rain. If you're going to the trouble of installing one of these, this is not the end result you want. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> I gave the review after a week had passed since it stopped working. It worked again the next day, for some reason. I was on the fence about buying another because of the proprietary connector and the fact that I didn't want to rewire the entire length of my truck. I still wish I had chosen a better camera, but I'm relieved that this one now functions properly. I'll update when I have more time to devote to it. br>br>Update No. 2 It poured heavily while I was at work two days after I updated the review. The camera worked on the way there but stopped working after the rain. I've been waiting for it to start working again, but it hasn't happened yet. We've had a week of extreme heat and no rain, and it hasn't helped. I didn't want to run any more cable, but I suppose I had no choice.

It's a good camera to have on hand in case something goes wrong
5/5

This camera was purchased to be used as a backup camera in my 2005 Silverado with a monitor. So far, this camera has performed admirably. I create a pleasing image with grid lines. The camera itself is sturdy, and the mount plate that goes behind the license plate is made of metal. The view can be adjusted as normal or mirrored, and the grid lines can be turned off by cutting a wire. Metal also makes up the adjustable mount. If you need to tilt the camera down further, there is a second hole where it can be inserted. Right now, I've got it set up so that I can see the top of my ball hitch and have a great rear view. The blue garbage can can be seen in the monitor view in the attached photos. I took this photo from behind the truck to demonstrate how far the garbage can is from the truck while still being visible in the camera's wide angle.
