Selected User Reviews For Sony DSXA415BT Digital Media Receiver with Bluetooth & Satellite Radio
A simple vehicle radio with no frills. br>br>Tuning sensitivity is excellent, and likely superior to that of some modern vehicle radios. (eg. Sensitivity, SNR, and other parameters are all used to tune the sensitivity. )br>br>Switching radios was simple for me because I had soldered a Sony wiring harness adapter for my Ford vehicle. As with most car radios, you'll need to get a specific adapter harness for your vehicle manufacturer and splice/solder it into the Sony wiring harness adapter that comes with it. br>br>Here are some things I haven't tried yet: br>1) USB mediabr>2) Satellite radiobr>br>PROSbr>1) Basic radio with no frills! 2) Sensitivity to tuning is excellent! br>br>CONSbr>1) During night driving, even the dimmest brightness settings are insufficient. (I had a similar issue with a previous Sony car radio model three or so years ago, and wrote in my review that covering the lit "bass boost" button with a piece of cut black electrical tape reduces overall brightness. ) )br>br>2) There are no multi-color LEDs, which is odd. (If your vehicle's interior lights aren't dark blue, your interior lighting won't match. ) ) However, the sensitivity of AM/FM tuning is far more important to me! br>br>3) There is no 24-hour clock. In addition, the 12/24 hour time clock does not appear at the same time as other information! (It would be nice if the clock was moved to a smaller clock in the side or bottom corner of the display while other information was displayed or toggled! )br>br>3) Despite the fact that the radio's face appears to be generic among all vehicle radio manufacturers these days, I still don't like it. Blindly navigating by feeling/touch is difficult for me. (This is a minor issue. ) )br>br>4) When using USB flash media, does not support the basic PCM WAV format! FLAC is the only other lossless format that is supported. (I guess I'll have to re-encode all of my music. ) ) supports AAC M4A-formatted audio, but the AAC codec is designed for network media and lacks the high fidelity of PCM WAV. br>br>5) I'm not sure if this radio has a microphone input on the back, but the manual mentions hands-free phone calls quite a bit. Is it safe to assume that users will be able to connect a Bluetooth headset or microphone? (This is a minor issue. ).
Sony's website provided wire harness information, but it did not correspond to the physical wire harness. When I contacted Sony, all they said was "go to a professional installer. " br>I contacted Scoche about the harness adapter and was told that even they couldn't get information from Sony. br>br>I gave this receiver one star in my review a few days ago, but now I wish I could take it back. In a metaphorical sense, I found Sony Support at the bottom of a dry well. Due to a lack of materials in the package, I have been unable to install. I'll have to wait until the missing items arrive or become available – there are no time frames for this. br> On the Sony website, there is information on the wiring harness/connector that appears to be random, does not match the harness received, and is the same for all Sony car receivers.
Excellent unit with a straightforward user interface. Although it lacks some bells and whistles, the sound quality is excellent. Bluetooth is spotty; it will occasionally disconnect, or it will only allow you to stream music rather than make calls. The microphone is built into the head unit and performs admirably. There's no need to connect a microphone; songs stored on a USB memory stick in MP3 or AAC format work just fine. The audio quality is outstanding. The memory stick will also be read very quickly, though the remote will take some getting used to. br>br>This unit will display the car's battery voltage, which is a feature I've never seen before on a head unit. It's kind of cool.
That is not the case with this one. Blue Tooth is a great tool. I replaced my old Sony with a Blue Tooth model, but I lost some features in the process. The first Sony had a control for "loudness. " Loved it. That is not the case with this one. "Rear bass enhance" was included as well. This one isn't going to work for you. There is no response in the bass range. Now I have to find a small sub-contractor today. To add some bass to the radio, you'll need a subwoofer. In addition, the USB can only hold 265 MP3 songs. I have a total of 285. Sony makes excellent products, but you must first educate yourself about them.
The good: Sound quality is good, the EQ section is versatile, and the design is not bad. The bad: It's a complete nightmare to connect via Bluetooth. Disconnects at random times, despite the fact that you could voice dial, look up call history, and so on. You've got a 1 or 2 star rating. There's a 20% chance that the phonebook will load. When it did load, every single contact was associated with the incorrect phone number. For the past ten years, I've purchased Sony car stereos exclusively for my and my children's older vehicles with no problems, but this one was a huge letdown. In the morning, I'll return it to you.
This stereo has made my life a lot easier. It has Bluetooth for hands-free calling and access to your phone. Bluetooth calls are clear, though they sound a little further away from the person calling than phone calls. It's possible that an external microphone would solve the problem, but the problem isn't serious enough for me to investigate right now. The front of the device has a USB port. On the face, aux. My Samsung phone is compatible with this app. Spotify, audio books, podcasts, and other digital-only content There will be no CD player in this house. I ordered a dash installation kit and upgraded the radio in my Nissan Frontier. There are three dim lighting options, and I find that medium is ideal. It took me a little while to figure out the controls, but once I did, it was fairly simple. However, hitting the wrong button by accident can be frustrating. There is a remote control included.
When I first got my car a few years ago, I went to my local Walmart and tried to find a Sony CD player with Bluetooth. I didn't get the model I paid for when I went home. I installed it and went on with my life because I didn't want to go back. br>br>After a few years, I was tired of all the wires. I didn't need it because I don't listen to CDs. When I came across this unit, I decided to buy it. Because I already had a Sony unit installed, I simply swapped out the deck when it arrived. It was a huge success. br>br>I noticed a difference in the sound right away. It was simple to pair, and I like how the information from the song I'm listening to (whether from local storage or Pandora) appears on the unit. That isn't possible with the display in my newer car! br>br>Overall, this unit has exceeded my expectations. Although the Sony app for my phone is terrible, I no longer use it. I plug in and turn on Pandora before heading out the door.
