For me, 42 inches is a good size. It's a little big, but it's not impossible to manage.
Neither is a true reflector in the traditional sense. The black serves as a "flag," reducing the amount of ambient light that is reflected. There is still some light coming back, but it is much less. In brighter rooms, it's especially useful for enhancing shadows. br>The translucent portion serves as a diffuser, softening natural light. If you're photographing in the harsh midday sun or something similar, I'd recommend using it. br>Hopefully, this has shed some light on the situation.
This was used for a photo shoot in a Windsor, Connecticut park. I had to enlist the help of a friend to carry it, but I think it's the perfect size, especially since it "folds" down to about a quarter of its original size for travel.
I kept it about 10 feet away from my subject and only used the gold and silver settings. I can not say with 100% certainty that it would work for cinematography but I don t see why I wouldn t if it was a good value for my needs it was a good

I'm going to say right up front that this is a well-made product, but it wasn't created by people who know anything about photography. If anyone at this company knew anything about photography, they'd recognize that the color scheme on their reversible sleeves is completely incorrect. That is to say, on one side, the proper sleeve color combination should be white/black, and on the other, gold/silver. There's a good reason for this: as a photographer, you'll use the white and black sides of a reflector far more than you'll use the gold or silver sides. Of course, no one at this company is aware of this. This product is extremely inconvenient to use because you must constantly reverse the sleeve (which is difficult due to its large size) every time you need to do the two most common things with a reflector on a shoot: which is to use the white side to bounce light at your subject and the black side to block light from your subject.
This reflector performs admirably for its price. br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are a number of disadvantages to using this product. The materials are reasonably priced. The silver and gold reflection fabric is nearly impossible to keep wrinkle-free. The zipper catches on the foldable reflector's edge and tears it apart. I've only had it for three days and the reflector edges have already ripped. It's a magnet for dirt and sand, and I used it in the desert last week and can't seem to get the sand off the reflector for the life of me. The adage "you get what you pay for" is accurate. I'm new to photography and have only recently begun photographing outside. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I was fortunate to come across this. The bag in which the reflector was stored had already torn close to the zipper when I received it in the mail! I didn't mind because I had only bought the 5 in 1 reflector and not the bag. For the first three times I used the reflector/scrim, it performed admirably. Now, I had read on here that it was "cheap," "flimsy," and other such terms, so I tried not to judge it too harshly. However, on my second use, the metal/aluminum frame that holds the reflector came loose and tore a small section of the fabric; this was no big deal, and I was able to reassemble it in under half an hour. Then, on the third time, the reflector's zipper came undone, leaving me with only the scrim/translucent reflector. And, as I previously stated, I was well aware that this wasn't the most durable or long-lasting reflector available, so I used it with extreme caution. It did its job and was very good while it was still intact, but only three times? Now I must either have it repaired or purchase a new one.
When I bought them, I was a little perplexed as to how they fit 5 in 1: The main reflector is made of translucent material. On one side, the cover is black, and on the other, it is silver. That cover is reversible and has a zipper around the edge. It's white on one side and gold on the other when you flip it over. It has a high quality feel to it and is simple to switch between reflectors. It still twists into itself to form a smaller circle that fits into a small zipped bag, just like the old ones did.
Based on the reviews, I decided to give it a shot because it was reasonably priced for such a large reflector. I compared it to a more expensive set (Westcott Photo Basics), and while there is a noticeable difference in quality (the more expensive reflector feels more durable), they both do the same job. I'm sure mine won't last as long, but given how frequently I'll be using it, I'll probably keep it for a long time.
If you've never dealt with something similar before, such as those collapsible car windshield reflectors (which is where my experience comes from), it can be challenging to collapse. It can become more unruly and difficult as you grow larger. Reversing the cover to use its different sides takes a little practice and patience, and you'll have to be careful not to catch and mark/tear the fabric when zipping it closed. I haven't put this mount to use yet, so that will be the true test of its durability. Not long after I received it, the handle on the slipcover case in which the entire unit is housed broke.
This was a gift from my husband for me to use in my photography business. I like how easy it is to swap out the reflectors, and how they all fit together neatly when not in use. It's simple to fold and transport, and it's quite large, so there's plenty of surface area to work with.
These reflectors provide the most bang for your buck. They appear to be well-made, and I've used them as additional lighting options in a number of my photo shoots. The only minor flaw is that the silver coating on the one rubs off in small pieces, causing my entire case and occasionally my hands to become bejewelled. For the low prices, it's a small price to pay. One thing to keep in mind is that the case that holds these is poorly constructed; the loop that is supposed to be used to tie it to a belt or hang it from is already half ripped off after only a few photo shoots. However, I did not deduct any stars because the product is still in excellent condition.
