For kids, this is an excellent first camera

The user interface is simple and intuitive, and it's nearly identical to that of most other fixed lens digital cameras. In good lighting, the picture quality is acceptable. Landscapes and daylight scenes benefit from this effect. Portraiture isn't really a good fit for me.

It's a good camera for children to use. There's no need to be concerned about damaging a costly camera. It is extremely light. I haven't yet put the waterproof feature to the test.
