For a young child, this is an excellent first camera. My son is four years old, and it does take real pictures and saves them on the card, though the quality isn't great; however, given how much he drops and throws things, I think it's a great price point for him to have a "real camera. " It's a big hit with him. The battery doesn't appear to last very long, but that could be due to the fact that he leaves it on all day. I would recommend it if you are aware that the photos will not be suitable for printing.
