Questions & Answers

Is there a way to get the things to try at the bottom of the screen to disappear? Getting in the way! ?

Follow the guidelines in viperamd64's review. They function according to his instructions: "I read about "ads" displaying over and over again in the "most helpful" reviews. This NEVER shows ads; instead, it shows Alexa skills and things to try with your device, which I read can't be turned off. It's right there in the options: go to: back to the house Clock- then: Content of the Home- then switch it off - Observation- , and the Alexa skills will no longer be visible (they may cycle once after being set, but they will be gone forever). People who wanted to use it as a clock were upset because the clock kept getting minimized (to the left corner) to show other things, according to what I read. That's because they're not properly configuring it yet again. As a result, the following options are available in the settings: go to: back to the house Clock- then: Content of the Home- then switch it off - Continuous Rotation – , which will always display a full-screen clock on the Home screen. You can also simply turn off any of the items in that list; however, each time you go into the settings, it will immediately display a single skill or any content you left on. That is, however, the end of the story. From then on, it'll just be a clock until you interact with it again, at which point it'll show you a single skill or that content. Once. After that, it's back to being a full-time clock. "br>After doing both of these things, my Echo 5 only shows the time for the last 10 minutes.

My parents don't have a phone and live in another state. Is it possible for me to install this in their home and for them to use it to call my phone?

My mother received an echo show that I purchased. I was stumped for a while. She only had a basic cell phone and an even more basic internet connection in her case.
1- I set up an Amazon account for her, using her email address and password.br>2- Install the Alexa app on her phone and tablet (in case one of them fails). If they live in another state, have someone download it for you if they don't know how.
3- The Alexa app will send her an email to confirm that she is the owner of the email address and Amazon account. They need to confirm by opening the email.
4- Go to the Alexa app and select "profile," then enter her cell phone number (or her home phone number if she has one) and address (if she has one).
5. Within the Alexa application- br>6- Go to "communicate" and search for her contacts (Alexa will recognize anyone with an Alexa echo). Look for your name in her contacts to be able to join her echo, and repeat the process if you want her to join your echo as well: Go to your contacts, find her/his name, and select Allow to Drop In from the drop-down menu.
7- then give it a shot Alexa has decided to pay a visit to her mother. You could also call your mother. Alexa will inquire if you want to send a message to her phone or device. br>br>I hope this has been of assistance.

Will the ggmm es5 battery base work on this version so that I can transport my show?

No, it's the wrong size; the Echo Show 5 was designed for it. I saw a video on YouTube where a large charging block, similar to a Halo, was used to power larger Echo Shows for several hours.

Is it possible to flip the screen? Underneath the kitchen cabinet is where I'd like to mount it. ?

I make use of a double-sided tape. It has never failed, even when using two-sided Gorilla Glue and Heavy Duty (black, not clear) mounting tape. To be safe, I'd go with the black 60lb version (I'm sure the 30lb would work, but I'm not willing to take a chance). It does come off, but it doesn't always leave the paint in perfect condition, but if you're willing to drill holes in your cabinet, it will. br>br>I use gorilla glue tape for everything, and it's my go-to solution. In place of "Command," I use it. Anything can be used in place of nails or screws, and it will hold! If you need to try it out on something, start with a can of soup.

But there's a fatal flaw in it
3/5

I love this device and am blown away by Alexa's capabilities. That said, I can't recommend it and won't be purchasing additional units until they add the option to turn off the "Try Alexa" suggestions at the bottom of the home screen. br>br>Based on what I've seen online, I'm not the only one who's been driven insane by this, so I'm hoping Amazon pays attention to the feedback and implements this in a future update. EDIT: br>br> The most recent top review claims that I (and everyone else who has complained about this) are mistaken, and that this can be turned off. While this person is correct in that much of the display can be customized, the "try" suggestions at the bottom are not one of them. For the record, I confirmed this with Amazon support before writing my review. Anyone who claims otherwise is clearly mistaken.

I'm not interested in any "Things to Try," Alexa
3/5

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa The "Things to Try" phrases irritate me so much. They're also ridiculous and have nothing to do with me. "Alexa, can you teach me how to greet someone in German?" ", "Alexa, do some rapping for me. " ", "Alexa, how hot is it outside? ", "Alexa, how hot is it outside?" ", "Alexa, what is the temperature at the North Pole? ", "Alexa, what is the temperature at the South Pole?" ", etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , etc. , They constantly scroll over the pictures and photos you upload to your home screen and wallpaper, making it difficult to ignore them. The clock in the upper left corner is so small that you have to be right on top of it to see it. I had to return my new Echo Show 8 because I couldn't stand it any longer.

It seemed like a better option to me
3/5

I have an Echo 5, and the "try Alexa" phrases at the bottom irritate me. I wasn't alone, according to all of the 5 reviews I read. I'm hoping Amazon noticed how unpopular this was. I'll send it back to you. Make it an option, at the very least.

8th Episode of the Echo Show However, it is not quite as good as the Echo Show
4/5

I've been using an Echo Show 5 in my office for over a month and love it. The ability to customize the clock is particularly appealing to me. br>br>This past weekend, I received the new Echo Show 8 as a gift, and I like it for many of the same reasons that I like the Echo Show 5: excellent interconnection; a wide range of skills and content; Additionally, it works well as a sound speaker and a photo display. br>br>However, I discovered that the ES8 lacks the same clock face selection as the ES5. There's no obvious reason for this, and it's not even mentioned in the ES8's marketing. Please update the ES8 software so that it can support at least the same number of clockfaces as the ES5.

With Ring cameras, everything is so simple and so good
5/5

My new Echo Show 8 arrived in the mail. Just a couple of hours ago, I had an HD 8" smart display with Alexa. It took me less than 30 minutes to unpack it and connect it to my WIFI. I have three Ring cameras, as well as a front door bell and a front door camera. Motion light cameras in the backyard are a great way to keep track of what's going I followed the steps to add Ring to the Alexa app in about 2 minutes, and it was so intuitive that I'm not sure what I did wrong, but after another 5 minutes, I said Alexa show front door, and she said okay, and my front door camera appeared on the screen. Then I said to Alexa, "Show back," because that's what I called the device, and she said okay and successfully showed the back yard camera, as well as the front yard camera. I have a lot more smart devices, and the Alexa app on my wi-fi allows me to control them all. As a result, I'm looking forward to figuring out how to incorporate them. br>I've also realized how critical it is to name the devices. Alexa only recognizes devices by their names in the devise list for voice commands.

This is a fantastic addition to your home technology
5/5

This is my first Echo device, and I was prepared because I had already set up several skills on the Alexa app before the Echo Show 8 arrived; I had already set my expectations for the quality of the voice command response. If you're thinking about competing in the Echo 'echo-echo-echo-echo-echo-echo-e If you're debating whether or not to get one of these, download the Alexa app to your phone or tablet and give it a try. Alexa is activated by pressing a button on the phone app (in my case, iPhone and iPad). Simply say her name to the Show 8 and she will begin to listen. br>br>Some Alexa skills are still in need of improvement, and your satisfaction with them may differ. However, it is fantastic for Show 8! The speakers sound better than I expected (in fact, they're pretty amazing considering the size of the Show) and will fill the room with sound. On the back of the Show 8, there is an external speaker jack, but I don't think I'll ever use it - That's how good the internal speakers are - The kitchen countertop is vibrating due to the bass from the speakers. The best sound projection and quality are achieved when the speakers are in the back and the unit is backed up against a wall. A concept that is similar to some higher-end Bose speakers that have rear-facing speakers. Sound-reflecting elements that provide more ambience by reflecting sound off a wall. When music is playing, the lyrics scroll across the screen, allowing you to sing along (if your housemates and dog can take it). I can still get Alexa's attention even when playing at a higher volume level, but it may take a few tries. The microphones are quite sensitive, and they can pick me up from a different room if there isn't much background noise. The Show 8 also has Bluetooth, so you can pair it with a phone, laptop, or other device and listen to music through the Show 8's speakers. Because the Show 8's speakers sound so much better than the internal phone or laptop speakers, I do it all the time. There was a slight lag between watching a video on my laptop and hearing audio from the Show 8. It's possible that it's due to the fact that the audio was sent via Bluetooth. br>br>Instead of the recommended stand (or no stand), I went with the "Echo Show 8 Adjustable Aluminum Swivel Stand," which is also available on Amazon (you can read my review of the stand there). It is recommended that you use a stand to position the Show 8 at the best viewing angle possible. br>br>I also bought a few Meross Wifi smart plugs (which are also available on Amazon). I have them linked to Alexa so that I can give one command (like "Alexa, turn on Christmas Lights") and all of the plugs in the Christmas group will turn on at the same time. The plugs will be given new responsibilities once Christmas is over. br>br>The Show 8 has internet access. You can open a web browser using the Firefox skill. You can also pair a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (see photo) if you don't want to tap letters on the screen. If you have an HP printer, you can connect it to the Show 8 and print grocery lists or other documents. br>br>It's not worth it- For me, it's a deal breaker, but I can't seem to get rid of the "Try Alexa" option. ", which can be found at the bottom of the home screen. As another reviewer pointed out, you can turn off the skills cycling in the center of the screen. In my kitchen, there's a Show 8; So the display isn't "in my face," and I don't stare at it all day, so it's not a big deal. br>br>I must admit that I was skeptical and unsure whether I would find it useful. But I'm growing fonder of this device by the day. We've now added an Echo Dot to our collection. With a few Echo Buttons thrown in for good measure. br>br>I was so pleased with the Echo Show 8 that I ordered a second one to give to my daughter and son-in-law. law!.

It's a shortened version of the second season of the show, but it's still a good deal
5/5

In my house, I have a slew of Echo devices. The Echo Show 2 10 inch is included in this package. br>br>At current prices, I believe this to be the best deal. br>br>Sure, your screen is shrinking by 20%, but it's not a huge difference. br>br>The resolution of the screens is nearly identical. It appears to be of excellent quality. br>br>In the echo show 8, the sound is very solid. br>br>I believe the 8 is a condensed version of the 10 inch. That isn't to say it isn't good, though. br>br>Overall, I would choose this model over the 10 inch model. It is justified by the price difference.
