No, it won't be able to create a canopy; it's only for Decour's backdrop. It's really to connect two backdrops with a third crossbar in the middle.
A local photography store that also sold backdrop stands sold me a cross bar. It performs admirably.
I'm still using my old setup because I haven't set it up yet.

It was an excellent purchase that performed flawlessly. We used four colors, but only three layers, and it turned out beautifully.
This is a nice little bracket set that is very versatile and allows you to use the same stands for multiple backgrounds. Suitable for holding paper rolls or fabric backgrounds. During the Christmas portrait season, I used it to quickly switch fabric backdrops by simply removing one end of the support rod and swinging the backdrop away, revealing the next background. The studio has gotten a lot better. I'm thinking about getting a second set.
It was critical to have the ability to add a second crossbar, and this item met that need. They're well-made and fit my stands, but one of the screws holding it to the bar was missing, and the vendor didn't have one on hand to ship. Fortunately, I discovered that an upholstery hoop screw was the same size, so it fit. But. The stand tops' screws are not tightened down enough, allowing them to spin around. I'm going to wrap some tape around the tops of the stands to see if it helps the screws grip. Otherwise, having these for the second crossbar is a great idea.
When purchasing, keep in mind that the main hole does not fit my middle stand. I tried to screw it in by pushing it all the way down, but only one side worked, and it wasn't very sturdy. Hopefully, my husband will be able to modify it to fit my needs.
Because of the low price, I was not expecting this set to be very sturdy; however, you must be aware of the weight of the material you are placing on the bars. I'd make another purchase. I've been looking for something like this for a long time.
The holes were either not perfectly round or were just a smidgeon too small. We had to drill the entire thing a little bit more to make it fit. The edges aren't completely straight. We just had to make sure they were on the same sides because one side of each was slightly higher than the other. br>With these few tweaks, it appears to be working fine.
