Product Description

By entering your model number, you can make sure that this fits.
The SMALLRIG Universal Lens Support with 15mm LWS Rod Clamp 1784 attaches to standard LWS-spaced 15mm rods and is designed to relieve the camera's lens mount of much of the weight of heavier lenses.
The SMALLRIG Universal Lens Support provides physical support for long lenses, reducing the pressure on the camera's lens mount, which can be damaging.
The lens support, when connected to a cinema lens's support foot or a still photo lens's tripod collar, relieves the camera's lens mount of weight stress.
The lens support is made of lightweight aluminum and has a vertically adjustable bracket that fits lenses with diameters of 50 to 140mm.
Any standard 15mm LWS rig will work with the rod clamp part.

Questions & Answers

Is it possible for this support to move freely on its rails while still providing lens support?

If my understanding of the question is correct (and your lens is a smooth tube? If you answered yes to both of these questions, you are correct. When the SR Lens Support is mounted on the rails, loosen the center knob and lower the V support to its lowest setting, attach the lens to your camera, loosen the knobs on the rail locks, slide the lens to where you want it to be supported, lock the rail knobs, and then raise and lock the center V support. Simply reverse the order in which you place the support. There is no constant support and no sliding.

Is there a minimum weight for a lens to require this support, and does the length of the lens play a role?

When it comes to using a support, the length is extremely important. For example, I have a Canon 70-200mm lens. I use it with a 200mm lens, and it relieves a lot of strain on the lens mount on the camera body. In addition, I shoot with a Canon 24-70mm lens. 70mm, which you should not use because it is unnecessary.

Is this compatible with the Canon EF 17-55mm f/2.8L IS USM lens? Is it possible to get a lens with a focal length of 40mm and an aperture of f ?

Yes!

Is it long enough to support my lenses while using a battery grip with my camera?

It's the longest one we've bought so far. I believe it will be successful.

Functionality and build quality are both good
5/5

For the money, this is an excellent lens support. I like how versatile this lens holder is. Yes, it's a little bulky, and I doubt I'll use the full vertical adjustment, but the bottom of the Y-shaped piece also functions as a foot to keep your rails off the ground. br>br>Excellent build quality, and I especially like the two slots cut into the top of the Y piece's arms, which allow you to clamp the lens body to the holder with two strips of velcro. Make sure you use two pieces of velcro rather than one, with the joins positioned in the top dead center, over the top of the lens, so you can quickly undo BOTH layers. br>br>I used the following components to build my DSLR video cage rig: br>br>Smallrig 1750 - Smallrig 1750 - Smallrig 1750 - Smallrig 1750 - Smallrig 1750 - Smallrig Smallrig 922 - Smallrig 922 - Smallrig 922 - Smallrig 922 - Smallrig 922 - Smallrig 922 - Small Smallrig 1784 - 90 degree Rod Clamp Railblock for Side Handles - Smallrig 1784 - 90 degree Rod Clamp Railblock for Side Handles - Smallrig 1784 - 90 degree Rod Clamp Railblock for Side Smallrig 1674 - Universal Lens Support with 15mm LWS Rod Clampbr>Smallrig 1674 - Universal Lens Support with 15mm LWS Rod Clampbr>Universal Lens Support with 15mm LWS Rod C Smallrig 870 - Low Profile Base Plate with Rod Rail Clampbr>Smallrig 870 - Low Profile Base Plate with Rod Rail Clampbr>Smallrig 870 - Low Profile Base 2 x 15mm Carbon Fiber Rods from SmallRig Complanate Surface (non-slip) 20cm 8inch Long Smallrig 1061 - thread (pack of 2)br>Smallrig 1061 - thread (pack of 2)br>Smallrig 1061 - thread (pack Smallrig 1053 - DSLR Camera Rod Handle, Leather Grip with 15mm Rod Clamp (Black)br>2 of DSLR Camera Rod Handle, Leather Grip with 15mm Rod Clamp (Black)br>Smallrig 1053 - DSLR Camera Rod Handle, Leather Grip with 15mm Rod 30cm 12inch Long Aluminum Alloy 15mm Rods (M12-) Haoge 50mm QR Quick Release Clamp Adapter with 60mm Plate (Compatible with Arca-Swiss Arca-Swiss Arca-Swiss Arca-Swiss Arca-Swiss Arca-Swiss Arca-Swiss Arca-Swiss Arca-Sw br>Fotyrig Camera Top Handle Cheese Handle Grip with Cold Shoe Mountbr>br>I also made sure to get some 1/4" to 1/4" and 1/4" to 3/8" threaded screw adapters to fix things to the cagebr>br>Total came to a little over $320, but I now have a completely bespoke rig that feels completely right to me (despite being a novice), and I've gotten good feedback from others who have I need to add a little more to give myself a shoulder rest, but I'm happy with the end result!br>br>I specifically put QR clamps inside the cage, under the camera, to make releasing the camera easier without disassembling the entire cage. I use the cold shoe to secure the camera's top plate to the cage's top plate and increase rigidity, but this makes removal a little more difficult. When packing, the handles tuck away for a smaller footprint. If you found the information on this page useful, please like this review. Thanks!.

This is a fantastic item, but you'll probably prefer the shorter version
4/5

Smallrig has yet again produced a high-quality product. Though the majority of their products have a nice look and feel to them, they do differ. This is one of the slicker (newer?) (as in, newer?) (as in, newer) (as in ) Units. I can't help but think that a version with rollers would be preferable, but I understand that it would have its own set of disadvantages. The truth is that this assistance has been extended for a long time. It sticks out too far from the bottom of my rig, protruding between my rails. It gets in the way of my tripod head's mounting plate. I should have taken the time to measure and purchase the shorter one available. As an aside. Smallrig's ratcheting wing nuts are slim, but they're uncomfortable to use. Until you use some comfortable ones, it's not a big deal.

When connected to a camera, it supports your heavy lens
5/5

This handy device is ideal for holding heavy lenses on any camera. I've used it to support heavy Nikon and Sigma lenses on Sony A6100 and Nikon D750 cameras (the lenses ranged from 30mm F1 to 120mm F2). 70-pounds and up 200mm F2. 8 lens. It doesn't interfere with focus or zoom, and it simply gives you peace of mind by relieving the strain on your camera's lens mounting ring.

Great product; I wish I had measured first
5/5

*Disclaimer* I purchased it without first measuring. br>br>The product is well made; there are no flaws, but I wish I had measured before purchasing it. I have two cameras, both of which have battery grips, and because this one isn't long enough to reach the lens, I used it to support the lens on the lens tripod mount. Finally, if you have a camera with a battery grip, be cautious.

Excellent value for money, and it appears to be well-made
5/5

I had previously purchased a different lens support for a camera rig I'm building and was dissatisfied with it, so I returned it and purchased this Smallrig one instead. This is fantastic. It feels very solid, and it works with almost any small camera setup. It's also very easy to adjust. br>br>I don't think I've ever regretted buying anything from Smallrig; the gear is all excellent for the price.

Heavy duty commercial grade
4/5

Support for larger, heavier lenses that is both durable and strong, indicating that it is definitely commercial grade. For smaller, lighter lenses, this is not the case. br>br>I didn't like that you needed Pliers to tighten the lens support adjustment screw; a finger tightening will allow the support arm to move. In addition, this lens support is a little bulky. It's heavy, and it'll add to the weight of your rig. Aluminum is a better material to use.

For the price, it's fantastic
4/5

For the price, it performs admirably. I wouldn't put $50,000 worth of glass on it, but $5,000 worth of glass? Yes, of course! Its ability to rise and fall appeals to me. The Atlas lenses, which are mounted low on the Blackmagic Ursa mini pro, are a good example of this.

Combining this with the Camera Mounting Plate Tripod Mounting and a couple of 15mm rods, you can create a fairly stiff and light support for a MFT body with legacy telephoto lens
5/5

It's nicer and more adjustable than a steel support I have, and the adjustments seem to stay in place. It would be nice if it came with something to go over the top of the lens and keep it in place. Perhaps a rubber band will suffice; it appears to be well-made.
