This is a no-brainer if you're using a 15MM rail system for video production or shooting still photos where total stability is essential. Even if you have a shorter lens, this adds extra stability between the body and the lens, as well as to the rail system, reducing minute vibrations. This is a must-have for a longer lens, especially a sports or wildlife lens (again, if you're using rails). This provides a great deal of stability between the lens and the body, which reduces vibration and improves clarity. That's all there is to it. br>br> I wish I had purchased these sooner, as I've already used them on 150-plus projects. On a 600mm Sigma and a 35mm Nikkor 1, Sigma 1 at 8 and 50MM. In the field, there are four art lenses.
I purchased a Velo Nikon to MFT adapter in order to use my Nikon 24-70mm lens with my MFT camera. The cinema camera was set to 120 F4 for this shot. The lens isn't very good as a video lens for things like follow focus and breathing, but it provided me with some options for a low price. Because the lens is so heavy, it causes the BMPCC 4K body to flex. This lens support does a good job of holding the lens body in place while also reducing stress on the camera mount. The knurled knob for tightening the support is adequate, albeit a little on the small side. When I was using the heavy Nikon lens, it didn't come loose.
This was purchased in order to support an Angenieux 12-volt battery. Attached to a Blackmagic Pocket camera is a 120mm lens. It's not an ideal fit, but it gets the job done. The aluminum block has a nice finish to it. It's well-machined and fits snugly onto the rods, securing them firmly in place without being too tight. Knobs are being tightened. br>br>One star deducted because the part that holds the lens could have been designed better - A V shape could accommodate a broader range of lenses, and a soft rubber padding to protect the lens from scratches would be ideal. Regardless, I would suggest it - For the price, it's quite good.
Because of some feedback I saw, I had second thoughts about buying this item. I went ahead and bought it anyway, and I'm glad I did. br>br>The aluminum machine quality is excellent! I use a DSLR on a follow focus rig, and I occasionally get lens movements while operating the follow focus. I installed it, fastened the lens with a long strip of Velcro through the mounting holes on either side, and now there is no lens shake. br>br>I noticed that some people suggested that the mounting plane be V-shaped. shaped. br>br>One addition I made to mine was to add a piece of the loop side of a hook. br>br>It may be a little too wide for some lenses like mine, but if you strap it down it is perfect. br>br> To keep the lens from scratching, attach a velcro strip to the mounting surface. br>br>Would highly recommend to anyone who has a lens movement problem like I did or simply needs a good lens support.
Great addition to your film rig when using larger lenses! Well constructed, perfect width, and attaches without a hitch!.
When you pay $20 for a gizmo from this company, you might think to yourself, "Wait, what?" Is this really worth $20? lol. With this unit, you can: it's OK. It's a reasonably well-made item with some weight to it!.
Another fantastic Smallrig product, and I can't say enough good things about this company. Everything tastes better because of them. This was exactly what I needed for my camera!.
