This is a good value if this is your first matte box and you don't need everything that a full-featured matte box has to offer. However, if you require features such as the ability to accept drop-in filters and smooth rather than indented flag adjustment, you should pay a little more for a box with those features.
These guys are both strong and light in weight. I would have given it five stars if one of these hadn't been left in my Pelican suitcase and one of the blades had bent the next morning. It returned to normal after I placed a weight on it for a few hours. It's not a deal breaker, but it is something to consider. So the blades don't get bent out of shape, I'll be more cautious about where I keep it in the future.
The standard 15mm rail rod system is not compatible with it. I have a pair of 15mm rods from different brands, as well as a set of matching clamps/adapters, and they all work well together. However, even with all screws loosen, this matte box is very tight when I put it on. Worse, once this matte box is mounted on the rail, attaching other clamps becomes extremely difficult. br>br>I had hoped to be able to use this matte box because of its low price and large diameter, but it is simply not usable. The 15mm rail system simply will not accommodate it.
I was a little hesitant because of the low price, but I decided to buy it anyway to test it out on my GH5. By no means was I dissatisfied. It's extremely light and simple to adjust.
Plastic is used to make the matte box and flags. Fits rod systems with a width of 60 mm and a thickness of 15 mm. The flags snap into place on the matte box and stay in place as you adjust them; it's a well-designed and well-built product that glides smoothly on rails.
The first time I used this matte box, I didn't notice any unwanted lens flare. (It's worth noting that I wasn't comparing the same scenes with and without the matte box in a controlled manner. ) )br>br>Because the matte box isn't attached directly to the lens like a lens hood, you'll need a set of rails. br>br>For packing purposes, the barn doors can be removed. Don't run your car over them because they're made of plastic. Even with a small set of rails, however, this item only adds a small amount of weight to your kit. br>br>They also appear to be quite cool.
The sides and top can be adjusted easily, and it fits 15mm trods. Everything about it is fantastic.
Do not be hesitant to purchase this matte box. I found the best new budget box I could find, and the blue is darker than I expected.
