4x4 filters are not compatible with this matte box.
They are used to shade the lenses. They're labeled according to the focal length of the lens you're using, with a larger hole for wide-angle lenses and a smaller hole for longer lenses. They snap into place, shielding your objective lens from stray light.

I'm not sure about running. and-gun hasn't arrived yet. Really nice matte box with three stages and proper *metal* filter holders, as well as an LWS support, which I strongly recommend using. I'm using a two-stage integrated VND setup, with the third stage being used as a mist filter, etc. This is a fairly heavy setup, so the jury is still out on run-and-gun. and-gun, but if balanced with a battery, it might not be such a bad idea. br>br>(I was considering the Polarpro system for similar functionality, but a) it was unavailable at the time of this review, presumably due to supply chain issues, and b) proprietary filter systems are a pain in the neck, in my opinion. The argument in favor of the Polarpro system is that it is all-encompassing. The inclusive configuration is still less expensive than the box's equivalent filters, and it is also lighter. )br>br>This item comes with several "backs" for various lens diameters, which is, in my opinion, the best approach for those who use matching sets of cine lenses. You don't want to have to change everything you've done before. You only need to adapt the matte box to your lens kit if you're using large-diameter lenses. You can, of course, choose to adapt something else. diameter lenses to a given back, but you'd have to search for and purchase the rings to do so. br>br>It also comes with a folding top flag and a set of hard mattes for different focal lengths. The top flag is made up of non-reflective materials. Because it has adjustable angled sides for more coverage, it won't be practical to leave it on full-blast. As a result, it won't be very useful as a "lens cap" for my needs. I'm going to experiment with just using a hard matte instead of the top flag to see how things turn out.
I used to use a Fotga dp500mkIII, which was a big camera. The swing away was great, but that was about it. I returned it and replaced it with this Tilta, which I adore. I added some adapters to allow my 4x4 filters to fit in it, and it's been perfect for my needs, and I'm glad I bought it. Fits three filters and is a good fit on my Meike MFT Cine lenses. The advantages of upgrading from the Fotga have been obvious to me.
It didn't appear to be a recent acquisition. There are some scratches and scuffs on the part of the matte box that holds the top flag, as well as some peeling around the screws. It still functions properly, but I'd prefer a new one.
is good, but it can't be customized for each lens. I'll make a return because it's far too short. I really like it, but I'm unable to put it to use.
It acts and feels like an arri Matebox for the price I paid for it. Carbon fiber is as light as a feather and has a great finish. Tilta, you did an excellent job.
The best matte box in its price range, it holds three filters and is extremely well built, albeit a little on the heavy side, but it does an excellent job.
