The male end of the cable is inserted into the gear keeper's bottom. The small half-circle item will be anchored to wherever you want it, and the top of the gear keeper will clip into it.
I'm going to go with number two. From half to three feet Mine is in the center of my overhead console, and it extends all the way to where I sit in the driver's seat. It appeals to me. Two of them were purchased: One for my CB radio and the other for my company radio. Braided cord is also very strong. I've had mine for about a year and they're still in perfect working order.
I assume it would work because there are no electronic components, but it isn't waterproof.

It was very simple to install overhead if you could find an existing screw or bolt that could be fed through the bracket hole. Even in such a large cab with a significant reach to the base radio, the cord length is sufficient for my application. This model's retraction force is quite strong, but I like that you can quickly disconnect the mic from the cord if you need to hold the mic while approaching the scene or staging for any length of time, and that the retraction spring has a break to keep the cord at a specific length. I hope this review aids you in determining whether or not it will be beneficial to you.
This is a fantastic device. In my Jeep Wrangler jku, I'm using it to hold the mic for my mobile radio. It's so much easier to find the mic without having to look down from the road while 4 wheeling (or on the freeway). It's suspended from the roof between the front seats and can be used by either the driver or the passenger. I used 3M Velcro to attach it so that I can remove it when I remove the freedom top panels.
It's for my police cruiser, which I got it for. The retention rate is very high. DO NOT CUT IT TOO SHORT. I cut the lanyard that came with it because it was a tad too long for my liking. To repair mine, I had to resort to 550 paracord, which isn't quite the same. Maintain the status quo. If you listen to the radio in your car, I highly recommend this. Mine was a breeze to attach to the sun visor.
Because I work as a diesel mechanic, I've seen a lot of different ways to keep a cb mic in place. Mys was either tied up with a small bungee cord slapping me in the head as I cleared obstacles or tossed in the passenger seat where it eventually made its way to the floor while I was on the trails in my Jeep. By far the most effective solution I've seen. For the time being, I just clipped it to the inboard side of my passenger visor, safe, out of the way, easily accessible, and ostensibly over-protected. It's well-made, and I'd recommend it to anyone who still uses a cb radio. My only complaint is that the casing is rather large (1 inch thick, approx. ) and I had never seen the HD version before purchasing one. When compared to the standard version that I've seen, it's not a big deal to me, but it might be to others.
Using the gear keeper has made using the cb mic a lot easier than it had been before. It's fantastic that it retracts and extends to lock into place.
It does exactly what it says. So far, there have been no issues.
Breaker number one is 9. It's definitely one to keep. It really works!.
This was purchased as a result of the Ice Road Truckers show. It was incredible how they were able to grab the microphone, use it, and then release it. It may seem silly, but using your microphone while driving makes life so much easier. I had to put it in a cup holder that was far away from me before. It's now much easier to see and pick up. I adore it, and if it ever breaks, I will replace it. I simply clipped it to my visor, eliminating the need for holes. When I have passengers in the back seat and am not listening to the radio, the quick detach link comes in handy.
