On a whim, I used a Q-tip to clean the contacts that plug into the watch. The cables began to work again after using a tip and isopropyl alcohol. Those pins are called "pogo pins" because they are spring-loaded. when the cable is plugged into the watch and they make contact with their corresponding pads, they push in a little bit. The actual contact area is very small, similar to how tires contact a road surface, and it doesn't take much to obstruct a good electrical connection. My guess is that the "real" Garmin cables cost so much because the pins are gold (or gold-plated). To prevent oxidation (rust) from forming on them and interfering with the electrical connections, they are plated to a high industry standard. These off-the-wall ideas Copper pins plated with zinc or something similar are most likely found in brand cables. Much less expensive, but cleaning is required occasionally.
Then there's the issue of being unable to maintain contact - To keep charging, you must apply pressure.
I purchased these after discovering that some of the others I purchased were too large to fit into my watch. These are the perfect fit. They're snug enough to keep them from falling out, but not too difficult to install. To keep my watch charged, I now have one wherever I may need one (at work, at home, in the car).
My original charger was eaten by my dog, and this one arrived just in time for my vivoactive 3 to die. Having two, one for the house and one for the car, is convenient. They're both at least as good as the original in terms of connection. They're a tad bit longer than the originals.
The only advantage is that they work and are inexpensive. I've had a Garmin Vivoactive 3 for about three years and have gone through at least six charging cords due to corrosion of the spring loaded pins. I've just accepted the fact that every few months, I'll have to pay $10 for a couple of new cables.
My vivoactive 4S Garmin watch is compatible with these charging cords. They're a little bit longer than the watch's original cord. I'm very pleased with these extra cords because they allow me to charge my watch in my car or at work; they're also a great value. This page was last updated on August 8, 2017. 2021: I just placed an order for a second set of these for my new Garmin Venu 2. Excellent craftsmanship a fantastic deal.
I purchased additional cables to keep around the house, in my backpack with my portable battery pack, and at work. This allows me to keep track of time no matter where I am. br>br>None of the cables have given me any trouble. All of them fit snugly and charge the watch properly.
These are of excellent quality. In comparison to the originals, these are far superior. My old cable had a snag in it, and one of the teeth had broken off. The quality is extremely poor. These are fantastic, and I strongly advise you to purchase them!.
