I've never had a gps that worked so quickly, and I've always bought cheap used electronics for around $5. Because this item was difficult to come by at a thrift store, I decided to buy it new. On my boat, I use nmea 2000, and this antenna performs admirably. Before I can boot up my gpsmap, I need to set the location of this antenna.
After six months of use, this antenna died. Very let down. My boat mechanic used a test antenna to diagnose the problem. On the main unit, we tried everything from factory resets to firmware updates.
Just in case, I keep a backup. The most advanced Garmin Marine GPS antenna currently available. It performs exactly as you would expect. It is simple to put together. I keep a backup in case something goes wrong while I'm on the water.
Garmin marine products are fantastic, and using the nmea 2000 network, they're simple to set up.
It lived up to the hype.
