No, due to the size of the Dell E6440 laptop, this case will not fit. You have the option of using a 9mm optical drive or a 5mm optical drive. For the Dell E6440, a 5mm second hard drive case is available.
It's possible, but you should first check the height of your DVD drive, which should be around 12mm.

This has a couple of features that I haven't seen on these types of adapters before, so I was pleasantly surprised. It has:
- Activation indicator for LED drives - I adore itbr>- Tool holder built-in - Great idea to clip the screwdriver into the drive bay so it doesn't get lost.
- Two-screw holddown is very simple. Beyond that, it fits perfectly in the DVD drive bay on the Dell R710 server and holds the 2. 5" drive is very comfortable. br>br>The only flaw is that the face-to-face communication isn't as good as it could be. The plate as a fake DVD drive is too convincing; without the dummy eject button or fake logos, it could just be blank. Also, when opening the package, be cautious because the specialty screws used to hold 2. It's possible that the 5" HDD isn't secure. If it is misplaced, Finding a replacement will be difficult.
My laptop is a Thinkpad T520; I needed this HD caddy case because I wanted to add another drive. Just keep in mind - It is difficult to install and remove; simply put, it sticks and requires applying pressure to one side of the drive bay to move the spring loaded piece inside, on the left, to completely release it from the bay. In addition, the tray front does not have a molded face cover. I didn't realize it when I bought it, but after clipping it on (it just snaps on) to the tray, it won't fit perfectly unless you slice the right end of the face cover piece (otherwise, your caddy tray won't go all the way in!). After this annoyance, I discovered a Nimitz hard drive caddy case on Amazon for $16, which I purchased. It's been molded, and I'm hoping for a better fit. It appears to be attractive. As a word of caution, you get what you pay for!.
Remember: *Before purchasing the 12, make sure you have a good understanding of what you're getting If you're using a 7mm unit, make sure your opening is 12 inches wide. Size: 7 mm 12 in two sizes 7 & 5mm. To determine the opening, use a ruler with metric markings. *A SSD setup software via Amazon is required when using this SSD Caddy adapter with a SSD. To ensure that everything is ready for installation, order both the software and the caddy case adapter tray at the same time. You can't use the SSD unless you have the software.
So I didn't have high hopes for this adapter. I switched out the DVD-ROM drive. My homelab server, which has an SSD, has a ROM. It works perfectly, but if you're using it with an SSD, you shouldn't use the mounting screw. There is no head on the screw. If you use it, the screw will become dislodged and become lost inside your SSD. To get the SSD out, I had to break the seal, after which I promptly lost the screw in my carpet. You won't need the screw because this adapter holds the drive in place very tightly.
Instead of a CD/DVD ROM, get an extra HDD or SSD. It's simple to assemble (there's not much to it) and it works well to repurpose the CD/DVD ROM space, which is almost never used. If you have a laptop, you can use it to make a backup or simply add storage. If you have a computer, you can use this to turn it into a simple NAS (for boot or data) with less capacity. Actually, you can use it to turn a small computer into a backup NAS.
I did notice one flaw. The additional HDD does not appear in This PC when I first turn on the laptop. The laptop must be restarted before it can be used. The adapter, in my opinion, is not to blame. I'm going to look into it.
Purchased to replace the CDROM drive in a Dell PowerEdge R210II so that I could replace it with a Samsung EVO 850 SSD. I had no issues mounting the Samsung EVO to the CD-ROM drive. sled, or the CDROM-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM-ROM- sled to the R210II, which had previously housed the cdrom drive. It did exactly what it said it would do. I can also confirm that this is compatible with the Dell PowerEdge R420.
If you've ever replaced a CD drive before (or even if you haven't), it'll be simple to install. It is mostly made of metal, so the material quality is decent. The included screwdriver is part of what holds the hard drive in place, which means you won't have to look for it when it's time to replace it.
