Questions & Answers

Is it necessary to use a real computer power supply to run a 3.0? Do you have a 5-inch drive?

A 5" drive typically consumes more power than a USB (even USB-C) device. The enclosure has its own power supply; I tried running it off the usbC and it didn't work. br>br>In the past, I've had success with 2 and 3. 5" USB-C drives, on the other hand.

Is this compatible with SATA 3? Is there a 3 spec with pwdis support?

Hello there,br>This hard drive enclosure, in general, supports SATA 3. If you connect it to a sata 3 port, it will work. There are three spec pwdis that can be read and written, but the pwdis will not work. br>It is my hope that this information will be useful.

Is the included power adapter compatible with universal voltage (100-240V 50Hz/60Hz)?

Yes, the hard drive enclosure is compatible with universal voltage (100 240V 50Hz/60Hz). br>It is my hope that this information will be useful.

Is it possible to connect a computer with a USB-C to USB-A cable rather than a USB-A cable? c to usb- c cable?

If your computer has a USB A port, you can use the USB A to C cable, but please keep in mind that the USB 3.0 port is not available. The maximum speed that a 0 A to C cable can support is 5 Gbps. br>Thank you for contacting us and for your help.

I bought this to see if the enclosure could handle a larger capacity HDD
3/5

I wanted to put my Western Digital Gold 18TB Hard Drive in an enclosure. When I asked on the internet, it turned out to be a matter of opinion with few technical details. I was hoping to learn whether, depending on the SATA to USB interface chips, I would be able to use the enclosure to its full capacity even if the HDD was much larger than what was supported. I'm familiar with Inatech's chip selection, but the interface advertised for this enclosure had me skeptical. It appears to be effective. Despite the fact that I can see all of the remaining capacity in the OS, I believe the enclosure will not read or write to the remaining 2TBs. Curious. Because of the drive inside, the entire case vibrates, and there is no knocking from the drive read/write arm, which I could hear buzzing away when it was in my desktop, even without the rubber shock mounts. The case's rubber shock mounts are doing an excellent job. I attempted to remove the drive while hugging the caddie with all of the gripping rubber. This thing inside of me doesn't seem to be shifting or disconnecting any time soon. The construction is of good quality. br>br> It's not all made of aluminum or other metals. It's all plastic on the bottom and inside, which is fine because I don't want to short out the HDD control board, but I was hoping for aluminum painted black on the outside, which it isn't. The plastic shell underneath creaks when I handle it, which is my only complaint. br>br>Assembly was simple, and I only needed to refer to the instructions once. Before putting the drive into the case and into the SATA ports, there are these plastic "sleds" that snap into the drive's screw holes and snap up against the HDD tray. These "sleds" support the Enterprise Drive's alternative mounting screw locations, just like the Gold 18TB I have installed. Consumer WD Blues and Reds have a unique layout, so it's fantastic that they included this! br>br>The USB-Stick is a small device that connects to a computer via a USB cable. Reverse insertion is possible with the C port. Some devices I've owned don't support this, and can only be inserted one way to turn on and work, defeating the purpose of USB-C. C, as well as the fact that not all USB-based devices are created equal. Every C port is the same. You could be overpaying for a feature that isn't available due to the device's design, such as USB-C. Turning the C port in either direction has the same effect. The USB- The included C cable measures 39 inches (990. 6 mm) and has a much higher power output. A hidden white light emits from the back of the case when it is turned on. br>br> br>Model number: br>br>br>br>br>br>b CM301br>br>Overall, I am very pleased with this enclosure, and I believe it will serve me well for many years. br>br>October 2021 Update: br>This enclosure irritates me greatly. Because it lacks a fan and high-capacity drives generate a lot of heat, the aluminum top becomes extremely hot. When the drive heats up, it teaches you how to perform better. When I put out the 18TB, it felt as if you could fry an egg on it! I placed it in front of the air conditioner to keep it cool! Later, I installed a 4TB WD HDD inside the enclosure and used it in both Linux and Windows, and the enclosure would automatically unmount the drive when copying and deleting data on both fronts. I was expecting a more stable and resilient interface for the price of this enclosure. This is the last time I will purchase from this company. They were once excellent.

Poor design, poor quality, and a deceptive description Very let down
3/5

The first issue is: br>br> The product's name is "Aluminum," according to the description. It is NOT made of aluminum. It is entirely made of plastic and is only grey in color. This is blatantly deceptive. The second issue is this: br>br> The design of the product is shoddy. Before being placed in the main drive housing, the drive must be placed in a plastic tray. After you've inserted the drive into the tray, you'll need to connect the cheap plastic support rails to the tray's side. The drive does not fit snugly into the drive housing without the support rails. The support rails, on the other hand, are made of flimsy, breakable plastic, and mine broke about the third time I tried to swap out a drive. Instead of the tray and support rails, a better design would be to simply make the housing the right size for the drive to fit in without the need for the support rails.

On my 14TB backup hard drive, it works fine (but)
5/5

Overall, it performs admirably with a mechanical 14 TB backup drive, with 220MBps on a mechanical drive, which is excellent for that type of drive. However, there is one catch. Its internal plastic components are of poor quality, and the enclosure has only a few heat vents, which are only on the bottom. Having said that, I am still satisfied with the speed and would recommend it to others. It's the only USB 3. 0 device you'll ever need. I was able to locate one GEN2 enclosure with some good rantings.

This is ideal for three people
3/5

There are 5" drives, but that's it. This works well for three people. Although it is a 5" HDD, it also claims to be comparable to a 2. 5”. Despite the fact that this is technically correct, the 2. 5" drives simply hang there, with none of the support that the 3. 0 drives do. 5" drives are available. They cling to the connector, putting strain on it and potentially damaging the drive, dock, or both. The three stars are due to the title's numerous lies. Only three are mentioned in the box. 5" hard disk drives.

I couldn't get it to work for me
3/5

I bought a Seagate 2 TB hard drive for $50, and it works perfectly in my computer when connected via SATA to the motherboard. When I put the same hard drive in this enclosure, it kept disconnecting and reconnecting during file transfers, canceling the transfer every time. It took me hours to backup my 650GB of photos to this enclosure. It didn't work for me, and I'm not sure if it's because of a DOA. TLDR: TLDR: TLDR: TLDR: TLDR: TLDR: TLDR: TLDR My computer's hard drive is operational. The same drive in this enclosure kept disconnecting and reconnecting, and the transfer speeds were extremely slow. This enclosure isn't necessary, and you'd be better off without it.

This is a nice enclosure
5/5

The installation of the hard drive is fairly straightforward. You remove the bottom, remove the plastic tray inside, insert the hard drive, install the plastic retainers, place the tray hdd inside the enclosure, and then replace the bottom. It feels very solid and slick once it's all put together. It does not have a cheap look to it. A 12V AC adapter is used for power, and a USB type C cable is used for data. It's important to note that the cable is USB type C to USB type C. A USB type A (common rectangular USB) adapter or a cell phone cable can be used to convert one side to USB type A (common rectangular USB). Just keep in mind that if you use haphazard cables, your speeds may suffer. I haven't put this thing through its paces because I'm only using it for slow hard drives right now. I'm thinking about getting a SATA SSD and testing USB 3. 0. 0 vs. USB 3. 1 gen 2. br>br>The only criticism I have is that installing the hard drive in the proper manner takes a few minutes. with the plastic retainers and the inner tray The inner tray serves as a spacer as well as a means of locking the drive in place so it doesn't bounce around or fall out of the SATA connector by accident. You can still use it without the inner tray and retainers if you want to use it for quick hard drive swapping, such as in a routine backup situation involving multiple drives. Keep in mind that while the enclosure is plugged in, you must keep it flat and not move it. br>br>Apart from that, it has a premium feel to it. After all, you're paying a higher price than the alternatives. Although the body is not entirely made of aluminum, this is evident in the photographs. That's okay by me. It has a solid feel to it, and it performs as expected.
