I have two Extech light meters, and they both give me the same results. They're what I use for LED lights. br>It's possible that a meter's sensitivity to the wave length of the light being emitted is poor, but my suspicion is that the LED light you're measuring is producing fewer foot candles.

You can't choose the source of light, I'm afraid. It is sensitive to light. Led's would fall into this category. I'm not sure how accurate it is when it comes to measuring lums, but it worked for me. I was simply comparing the output of two different devices. Please accept my apologies for not being able to provide more detailed information.
This device isn't designed to be submerged in water.
Selected User Reviews For Extech LT300-NIST Light Meter with NIST
There are two features of this unit that I particularly like. The first is that it reads a dead 0 on the meter when the detector lens cap is on (imagine how inconvenient it would be if this were not the case). The second benefit is that the measured light levels are consistent; you can measure one location and then measure the same area again and get the same result. br>br>I'm not sure if the readings are particularly accurate, but for what I'm using it for (ensuring that light levels are not adversely affected when replacing a fluorescent bulb with an LED), it's perfect.
Light requirements at Andy's Orchids range from 500 to 3,750 footcandles (fc). Only 2,000 fc can be read on this meter. That's something I wish I'd noticed before purchasing it. For what it is, it appears to be quite nice.
If you require a certificate detailing the calibrations for insurance or manufacturing purposes (we use the meters in ASME testing), you must contact Extech directly or someone like McMaster Carr. Apart from that, the meter was in excellent working order! It worked flawlessly and was in no way harmed. Although the box was a little battered, the product itself was in good condition.
Extech 401027 Pocket Sized Foot Candle Light Meterbr>The light meter is simple to use and gives consistent results. The Extech is a very affordable general illumination light meter that can be used to determine illumination levels in cinema applications. br>The remote sensor allows for the collection of light at one point while remaining in a comfortable position during the reading of the result. br>.
This product was purchased because I required a calibrated meter for work, and it performs admirably. With the ability to stretch the reception dome away from the meter, the active readout is fantastic. We bought the calibrated version, which came with all of the necessary paperwork. It's a fantastic product that's also very simple to use.
It seems to work well.
The operation of this light meter is extremely simple. Simply turn the sensor on, remove the rubber cap, and place it where you want to get a reading. This is as straightforward as it gets. In addition, the meter appears to be extremely repeatable. This meter comes highly recommended by me to anyone looking for quick lighting measurements at a reasonable price.
