When using flash to lighten shadows or reduce background detail, the L-478-Series meters come in handy. Because they measure ambient and flash at the same time, they automatically calculate the percentage of flash in the overall exposure.
To accommodate the camera in use, the L-478-series has two motion-capture modes. Touch to adjust shutter speeds on HD SLR cameras, or quickly select frame rates and shutter angles on Cine cameras.
Because special effects and light sources can push standard camera settings to their limits, the L-478 allows for the creation of custom frame rates and shutter angles. 000 in order to ensure accurate exposure and lighting.
The L-478 will be a major player on movie sets all over the world due to its brightness measurement in Lux or FC and Cd/m2 or FL. Brightness can be displayed in conjunction with exposure measurements or on its own.

Is it true that this meter can only be used with a pocket wizard? What about a strobe that has an internal transmitter?
It can only trigger a flash remotely by using a PocketWizard radio as the receiver. It can measure any other flash (but not high-intensity flashes). In its "Cordless" (non-radio) mode, it can be fired manually or remotely.
Will Phottix Area ii receivers be triggered by this?
This is something you'd want to get the Phottix version of. 478- With the Ares II, this will work. It is compatible with Ares II's first four channels.
