No, the two products are not interchangeable.
Your MacBook's HDMI port is almost certainly an output rather than an input device, so you'll need a "capture" device (Elagato and Black Magic Design both make several).
Only composite video and analog audio are converted to an HDMI signal by this device. You'll need to purchase an encoder if you want to stream. Under $200, the technology works fine.
I use mine to connect a 25-year-old Nintendo 64 video game to my 75-inch TV and it works perfectly. The picture isn't as sharp as it was 25 years ago in my application, but that isn't the device's fault; I'm sure the picture would be crystal clear if I connected a DVD player. It performs admirably. I hope this has been of assistance.

Because the composite input on my single TV is limited, I purchased an HDMI switch box from here - This adapter does a great job of transferring your signal. I initially received a static/wavy image, but after swapping out the RCA cables, I can't tell the difference between HDMI and HDMI with my naked eye. I bought two more for $10 each as spares because I'm sure they'll become harder to come by or more expensive as time goes on.
This converter will assist you in connecting an (analog) VCR to a digital TV. The quality of your picture will be determined by the quality of your VCR and the tape you use. Keep in mind that this is a non-digital medium. It should work fine if you take care of your VCR tapes; I bought it for nostalgic reasons because I have a large collection of VHS tapes. The image quality isn't even close to that of Blue Ray or 4k Ultra HD.
It pretty much does what it says, but I don't believe it works backwards, so if you want *HDMI TO RCA* but not the other way around, you'll need something else. br>br>Also, it's worth noting that when you plug it in, it makes a sort of high pitched whining sound, but it's very high pitched, sort of at that frequency where you only notice it if you're deliberately thinking about it after a while, but it's VERY annoying at first. br>br>All in all, pretty much does exactly what it says, build quality appears decent, and the picture is as good as or better than But it does the job, so I can't say I'm disappointed.
There is no power supply included.
Although the VHS/DVD picture quality could be a little sharper, the signal converter does a good job of converting VHS/DVD to HD television. I'm not sure if it's the converter, the VHS player, or the quality of the VHS tape. The product didn't come with a lot of instructions on how to use it - Until I saw another model with an outlet power connection, I didn't realize the UBS connection was solely for powering the converter.
Pac-Man, it is ideal for me. Man is a fairly straightforward creature.
Setup and use are simple.
It does exactly what it says.
