I see no signs that they will crack, split, or tear easily. As the case is the exact same size as a cassette, there is no space for a standard insert. The length, width, and height are a few millimeters smaller than a standard hard plastic cassette case, so you might have to adjust storage if you require consistency. I have included photos of a standard cassette as well as a hard plastic case to give you an idea of their sizes. Those were just what I needed to protect old cassettes that did not come with a case, though they're perfect for that purpose.
While looking at other options, I came across another user asking about the same thing, and these were recommended as a good option. After receiving the box of 20 I sent them an email to see if they were what I was looking for. As soon as they arrived in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised. Please put pegs! In spite of my initial disappointment, a friend of mine offered to sand off the pegs and I am happy to report that they ended up looking quite nice (For those who are interested in doing the same), since I paid just 30 cents each instead of 2 dollars EACH! I ordered a box for my husband to keep his old tapes.
Several sheets of thick paper.
Their slippery surface makes them difficult to stack, but they're inexpensive and good.
