This HDMI switch was purchased for use with my PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. br>br>I don't believe it's stated anywhere, but this switch DOES work without the micro-controller. USB cable with power. The cable is only required when using the remote's IR sensor, which I do not intend to do. There are only a few drawbacks to mention, all of which are related to the construction quality. br>br>While the device is well-made, it is still primarily made of a lightweight plastic - If you connect any beefy cables, it will lift off its feet. Even if it's just a piece of metal glued into the inside of the case, a little more weight would be welcome. The remote, on the other hand, isn't great. It's the same low-cost remote that comes with any low-cost Chinese device that has one. It'll do the job, but it'll be a sight to behold. If you want to use the remote to change inputs, you'll need to use the included power cable to power the switch. You'll also need to connect a separate IR cable and place it close by. I would have preferred the IR sensor to be built into the device, but I don't need it in my setup. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase. br>br>.

MAYBE using the NEXT button on this HDMI switch will work without the need for external power - I'm not sure what I'm saying. It is required for the remote control. Also, I'm not used to seeing a HDMI switch with a remote that doesn't have a built-in IR sensor, but this one only has an EXTERNAL sensor at the end of a cable, which you may have to tape in place to use the remote. While many people don't see the benefit of a wired sensor, it comes in handy when the switch is on the floor behind the entertainment center and the remote isn't working. If you bring the wire to the front, the remote will always work, and UGreen even includes a piece of double-sided tape to help you mount it. For the micro-computer, I needed to provide my own power supply. A USB connection is required. The switch will not work if there is no power. br>br>My only gripe, and the reason I docked a star, is that when the current input is turned off, the switch automatically switches to the next active input. The cable box is always on in my setup, and the input switches to the TV signal whenever I turn off the Xbox or PC. To keep the monitor from turning on, I have to use the remote to select one of the inactive sources. This won't be an issue for people who watch TV on a regular basis; I prefer to let my monitor go into power save mode rather than pressing the power button every time; otherwise, it's a great compact switch that should last a long time.

Because it's USB-powered, all you have to do is plug it into any old USB charger (I'm sure we have a million of them in the junk drawer). I plugged into a multiport USB charger that I had nearby.

I have a laptop and a desktop computer, both of which feed one video output to a single monitor (so I don't have to unplug to switch computers). It's becoming a chore. Because I believe Amazon's return window has closed, I'll contact the seller or manufacturer to inquire about warranty repair or exchange. br>br>Apart from that, the item is small and lightweight, so you'll need to use double-sided tape to keep it in place once you've plugged in the HDMI cables.
