You can use this cord to run a load up to 1,500 (1,495) Watt. A LG 8k BTU energy star compliant unit reports it draws 700 Watts, so I checked for it. Unless something is very wrong with your A/C unit, it is impossible to imagine that it could pull even 700 Watts with only 5/8 the cooling capacity of that LG. It is unlikely you would have any problems due to an extra 3 feet. There will be some type of power cord that runs with this cord, unless it is connected to a lengthier cable or one that will have the same or less capacity, therefore it will not be directly plugged

The reason for not doing so is not clear to me. The snow thrower I use mine for starts. There is a statement that says it can be charged with the majority of household extension cords. It is better to use a heavier gauge.
