Questions & Answers

Is this a dual-band antenna for vhf and uhf? I was advised to choose one that receives both. ?

The ECL Eclipse is a UHF antenna first and foremost. It can also receive VHF signals. If VHF is important in your area, look for an antenna with dedicated VHF elements, such as the C2. Antennas of the type CJM or similar.

Will this work if the wall is made of concrete (cinder blocks)?

Our home is partially constructed of cinder block, and it serves us well. No blockage because our antenna is located in the attic.

Will it work on cinder block walls with no attic or will it not?

If you're hoping for it to pick up a signal through cinder blocks, I doubt it (for any antenna). This will look best near a window that faces the signal towers, with the flat part parallel to the towers.

What's Good, What's Bad, and What's Ugly! ——> GET THEE AN ATTENUATOR FOR NEARBY STRONG STATIONS! THE BENEFITSbr>br>1
4/5

It was more effective than using one of those flat rectangular antennas. (The rectangular Channel Master version is still quite good. ) Various review sites, such as www. Wired was correct in their assessment of this antenna's suitability. 2. br>br>1. br>br>br>br>br>br The cable is equipped with a simple-to-use interface. To attach, turn the knobs. Simply use your fingers to accomplish this. It's a huge improvement over the old style, which required open ended, perfectly sized wrenches. 3. br>br>4. br>br>5. br>br>6. The cable is separate rather than built in, resulting in less wear and tear as well as the ability to use a different cable if desired. br>br>4. The elegance of the circular design can't be overstated. THE BADbr>br>THE BADbr>br>THE BADbr>br>THE BADbr>br>THE BADbr>br>THE Its behavior varies with time and weather, as does the case with all OTA antennas. Just keep in mind that you might not get flawless cable-free results. br>br>6. Consistent reception at all times! A nearby station's signal was also changed in some way, making it impossible to get a good signal through our Roamio (TiVo). Staticky picture and intermittent sound were the result of that station, or three, as it affected all of the substations. Watching it was excruciating. ——br>br>——br>br>br>br>br>br> I began looking into different antennas. br>br>However, I did come up with a solution, which I'll show you at the end! 7. br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br> The stickiness wears off after a while. I cleaned it, which helped it regain some grip, but the large "heavy" cable connector section still pulls it down from the wall. To keep it going, we needed small stick 'ems. It's not a big deal, but you should have a set of them. 8. br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br> ALERT: It is reversible, but you must choose which side to display RIGHT FROM THE START! You won't be able to change your mind later because the sticky pad is only applied once! They should really include two sticky pads, so you can reverse it later if you want to — e. g. If you relocate it to a different location, THE UGLYbr>br>THE UGLYbr>br>THE UGLYbr>br>THE UGLYbr>br>THE UGLYbr>br The cable is extremely long, which is convenient if you need to run the antenna a long distance away but inconvenient if you want to place the antenna close to the television — there is a lot of cable dangling behind the television. Having the ability to move it further away, on the other hand, can help you keep it out of your field of vision! See next. 10. br>br> Because our family room has wood paneling, neither black nor white is a good choice. We chose black, but having a long black cable snaking up behind the TV and terminating in what appears to be a circular clock face looks odd. It will initially catch your eye, but you will eventually learn to ignore it. br>br>TIP TO RESOLVE LOUSY RECEPTIONbr>br>After days of experimenting with various locations, cables, and other options, we came across a response to a question on Antenna Direct's website that suggested using an *attenuator* to handle nearby, strong stations. Their signal may be TOO STRONG for the TV or TiVo to handle, and it must be weakened or attenuated! Another reason why amplified antennas frequently fail or worsen reception is because of this! So we gave it a shot. br>br> The attenuator (a cylinder with several holes) is simply screwed in place. It plugs into the antenna jack on your TV or TiVo and then connects the antenna cable. (We chose the blue labeled attenuator because we had a couple left over from our previous MOCA in-house system. ) They're only $6-$10. It's a ten out of ten, so it's a no-brainer. br>br>So, what do you think? IT WAS EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE! br>br>The nagging stations that had been causing us so much trouble have now completely resolved. We went from a shaky reception on our Roamio TiVo, fluctuating around 50 dB, with a jerky picture and annoying intermittent sound, to CONSISTENT reception, clear sound, and a STRONG signal strength of 72! Amazing! br>br> br>br>That's all there is to it! The good, the bad, and the ugly are all present. ——br>br>——br>br>br>br>br>br> GET THOU AN ATTENUATOR FOR NEARBY STRONG STATIONS!.

If you're near the towers, this is a great indoor antenna
5/5

This is a very high-quality product. There's a reason this antenna is rated! I tried a Costco antenna, but it didn't pick up nearly as many channels as the one I had. I put it in a window facing the towers, which are 4 miles away. Because of the direction of the towers, I was able to get a much better signal by angling it against a curtain (as seen in the photo) rather than placing it flat against the window. br>br>I believe some people are having antenna issues because they are unaware of how finicky modern (digital) television signals are. The location of the antenna is extremely important. The most crucial factor is DIRECTION - The line of sight between your antenna and the towers should be as clear as possible (you can find your towers on antennaweb). org). Then you'll need a shot that's as clear as possible - Walls are bad, windows are better, and the higher the ceiling, the better. You'll probably get no signal if you put it on the opposite side of the house. You'll have a better chance of finding the best location if you can measure the signal. I can measure the signal with my HDHomeRun tuner, and I've seen 10-fold improvements in signal quality. 20% by moving it a feet and angling it slightly differently - It was the difference between pixelation on occasion and a strong signal.

GREAT, depending on your location
5/5

This antenna is ideal for our needs! We live in a midtown highrise and have never been able to receive any local stations with an antenna. For the past 20 years, we hadn't even attempted it. As part of our cable-related services, we've added a new feature. We connected with this antenna as part of our cutting plan - It's also fantastic for us. We have a very strong signal. We keep our broadband connection and use SlingTV (on our Apple TV device) for our "cable" channels. br>br>It's really easy to set up and even looks kind of nice. br>br>We keep our broadband connection and use SlingTV (on our Apple TV device) for our "cable" channels. The combination of this antenna and Sling ($25 per month) gives us even more programming than we had with our cable provider previously - We're saving about $150 per month as a result of our efforts.

If a pidgeon does not fly in front of it, I suppose it will work
3/5

I have to say, I'm very disappointed with this product; I live in New York City, which is surrounded by television broadcast stations, so you'd think I could get a signal with a quarter-sized antenna. nope. Once upon a time, I noticed a pidgeon (? ) passed me by, and I lost my signal. The crisis was averted because I returned in a few seconds. As a result, I make certain that my fire escape is free of anything that might tempt them. Purchase a scarecrow, but be aware that it may have the same impact on your neighbors. I swatted a fly with it (antenna, not scarecrow); Still no luck, but I did manage to get a couple of stations; One of them is in Tagalog (which is fantastic, but I don't know the language). The best part is that when something interesting happens, the signal drops, causing you to miss whatever it was that was worth watching. This, of course, never occurs during commercials. Meanwhile, my old, cheaper, and smaller antenna receives a lot more channels, so I don't have to guess which degree on the compass I should point it at if I want to watch The Big Bang Theory after the news. BTW, it's a good show, but my crush on Penny is so over that I really need to know what the weather is going to be like tomorrow (even if it's wrong again;) The weather forecast will be correct sooner or later). br>br>Also, I'll never order this antenna from Antennas Direct again because I have to pay for return shipping even though I purchased it through Amazon Prime, which makes me reconsider my relationship with Amazon because that was one of the benefits. No, Best Buy did not persuade me to do this, but they will be the source of my next antenna purchase. Maybe I'll bring a pidgeon or pigeon with me to put them to the test. Because this is New York, the salespeople are probably used to seeing this, but if they aren't, I'll tell them it's my Comfort Pidgeon/Pigeon. br>br>I'm giving it one star because I like how simple it is to use; This is extremely stylish.

I live on the 34th floor of a Manhattan building and am unable to obtain a stable internet connection
3/5

Purchasing is not recommended. I waited far too long to return it, and it has only gotten worse with time; it is not worth the $40 price tag! There are better alternatives available. In a skyscraper in New York City, I should be able to see every channel clearly!.
