No, this only converts a 6 pin cable to fit a 9 pin port; firewire to USB may exist, but it is unlikely to work well because firewire carries a lot more data than USB.

This is just a quick recap. This piece of hardware enables you to connect a standard Firewire400 cable to the newer Firewire800 port found on the latest Macbooks. I don't own a Mac desktop, but it's possible that these will also have the new interface. The adapter, on the other hand, performs exactly as expected. If you own a new MacBook Pro, you're aware that all of the hardware ports are located on the left side of the laptop, which can make it feel a little cramped - I use all of the ports at once: monitor, FW800 Ethernet, Power Adapter, and so on. The Firewire adapter fits perfectly. What is the significance of four stars? The craftsmanship isn't quite up to Swiss standards. If you're truly a man, I believe you'll- It would most likely break if you handled it, but so- far- It was suitable for my needs, and the price was reasonable!.
We knew she was in trouble when she couldn't connect the old machine to the new one because the new one only had firewire 800, not 400, and she didn't have a cable. Thanks to Amazon Plus, I was able to order this adapter and have it delivered to her the next day. ), and she was back on her feet the next day. She got her files back in time for her deadline, and the adapter allowed her to use target disk mode on the dying laptop (which was the only way she could get it to boot). ) Thanks to this adapter, I was able to complete my task. as well as the future of my daughter's college education!.
A Firewire 400 port and a Firewire 800 port are located on the front of the Mac Pro (early 2008 model); when I use this adapter on the end of a Firewire 400 cable and plug it into the front Firewire 800 port, it works fine; however, if I leave it in the port and reboot (using System 10. 6), it does not work. 8), the Mac freezes on a gray or blue screen (color varies depending on how far the boot process appears to have progressed). When I disconnect the cable, it will sometimes restart after a few minutes, and other times it will require a reboot. I tried it a few times and it behaves exactly as described above. The adapter, on the other hand, works with both firewire video sources and hard drives. br>br> br>br>I haven't had the opportunity to test it out on the rear ports or through a hub. YMMV. br>br>.
It's cheap and it works. I'm not sure why Apple changed the design of the Firewire 800 connector, though it's natural to assume they wanted people to have to buy expensive new cables. Advantages: br>br> Yes, it works, and it is reasonably priced. br>br>"Cons": It easily falls out, triggering the "Device Removal" warning, which warns of possible data loss. But keep in mind: The adaptor has nothing to do with this. The issue stems from Apple's new FW connection design. The FW 800 connection allows cables to be disconnected from the computer with ease. If you're connecting to a desktop computer, this isn't a big deal, but if you're using a laptop on your lap, it's a major pain. It's a shame, because the old design is fantastic on the FW 400. Without holding our breaths, let's hope Apple either returns to the FW 400 design or creates something equally secure. br>br>11/06/09 Updated.
On initialization, the number 6 is displayed. This adapter was purchased to connect an Apple iSight camera to my new Mac Pro, but it proved to be nearly useless. The Mac Pro would freeze at the gray screen (no gray Apple logo, no spinning pinwheel) every time I tried to start it with the adapter connected. The Mac Pro continued to boot even after I disconnected the adapter. After that, I could plug in the adapter and turn on the computer. The camera would function as intended. When I used the adapter to connect a FW400 HD, the computer froze at startup. Maybe I got a bad part, but I'm not going to waste two hours trying to get it replaced for a $10 part. br>br>I bought a SIIG 9 to 6 pin FireWire adapter, which works perfectly. It's available at MicroCenter. br>br>Be wary of this adapter if you have a Mac.
I bought the adapter to use with my new MacBook Pro to connect my external iSight camera. The new models only have Firewire 800, so you'd think you'd be able to use the adapter with them, but you won't be able to. "It's firwire, and if it works, it works," I was told when I contacted the company that makes it. " That's a nice response from a business, huh? It is not something I would recommend!.
There's not a lot to say about it. It's a device that allows you to connect two devices together. It transforms a FW-formatted file into a FW-formatted file. An 800 port connected to a powered FW- It's a 400 port, and it works well. This will almost certainly become necessary as FW- Since many people (including myself) have FW-400, it is being phased out on newer computers. There are 400 devices in total. br>br>As with any adapter of this type, make sure it doesn't get accidentally bumped and cause damage to it or your computer.
I leave the adapter plugged in because too much movement can cause the connection to be lost. I wouldn't recommend it for people who rely on a firewire connection, but it works fine if you only need to use the firewire port occasionally, and it's not a bad product for the price.
