Questions & Answers
To use this adapter, the computer must have a fire interface.
br>It's a Firewire 400 to 800 converter.
This is simply an adapter that allows you to change the male plug type of your firewire 400 cable to fit the female firewire socket on your device. You're good to go if the female of the adapter fits your cable and the male of the adapter fits your device.

My old Presonus Firepods (FP-1) needed to be hooked up. 10) audio interfaces for my 2012 Mac Pro The Presonus Firepods have 6 pin firewire 400 connectors, but my Mac Pro only has firewire 800 ports, so this little adapter worked perfectly. The Firepods can be daisy chained, but they won't work at 96kHz. However, they work fine when connected individually (the Mac Pro has four firewire 800 ports). I did some recording (24 channels), and the old Presonus Firepods sound fantastic, especially considering how old they are.
A DV camera was connected to an iMac from 2012. My import times have been reduced from around 4 hours to around 2 hours. On my old MBP, 3 million years equaled about 2 hours and 40 minutes. br>br>A bit pricey for an adapter that's only a few years old- I'll take it despite the fact that it's not a date.
It was inexpensive and completed the task at hand. br>I was transferring data from an old MacBook Pro that wouldn't boot up (except in target disk mode - see below) to a new MacBook Pro. Hold down the T key and turn on the computer) and an older iMac. Only the firewire option was available on older models. One is 400 pounds, while the other is 800 pounds. As a result, an adapter is needed. It went off without a hitch. br>.
I dug up an Apple iSight webcam to use with my Mac mini (late 2014) because they're no longer available due to the COVID-related issues. People who work from home are in the midst of a 19-year crisis. It was connected to a Newertech HDD enclosure with firewire 400 ports via an Apple Thunderbolt 2 to firewire adapter and a firewire 800 to 400 cable. I figured that by cutting out the enclosure with this adapter, I'd be able to reduce the clutter and possibly some electronic interference, but my mini couldn't see the camera any longer. The adapter fit perfectly, and the shipping and packaging were both excellent. It simply did not work in my environment. If it isn't broken, I suppose it shouldn't be fixed.
I'm not sure if it has hidden malware or what, but as soon as I plugged it in, my computer's fans started spinning up and wouldn't stop spinning even after I unplugged it. My firewire device, too, would not connect. My computer needed to be restarted. After that, it seemed strange again.
It does the job, but it's flimsy and inexpensive. It doesn't fit snugly in the port, as others have reported, so if you're going to use it frequently, I'd recommend looking for a different solution. Because it sits loosely in the port, it appears that it will eventually harm the port with continued use.
To connect a Firewire 400 external hard drive to my 2013 MacBook Pro, it works flawlessly with a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter.
This worked perfectly on a MacBook Pro, converting an older FW400 cable to a Thunderbolt FW800 adapter. My only criticism is the tightness of the connections - Pushing the cable in and the adapter into the FW800 socket was a bit of a challenge. But it functions and, in my opinion, represents good value for money.
